As Elijah watched Rory settle into the safe house, he couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. He had been a part of The Phoenix Initiative for years, and he knew that the organization was full of secrets and lies.
But as he looked at Rory, Elijah realized that he had been blind to one very important fact. There was a traitor in their midst, someone who had been working with Cassius all along.
Elijah's eyes narrowed as he thought about the possibilities. Who could it be? Emily, the woman who had been created to protect Rory? Or maybe it was someone else entirely, someone who had been hiding in plain sight.
As he pondered the question, Elijah's phone buzzed with an incoming message. He glanced at the screen, his heart sinking as he read the words.
"Meet me outside," the message read. "We need to talk."
Elijah's eyes locked onto the message, his mind racing with possibilities. Who was behind the message? And what did they want?
As he stepped outside, Elijah's eyes scanned the surrounding area. He knew that he was taking a risk by meeting with the mysterious sender, but he also knew that he had to uncover the truth.
And then, just as he was starting to wonder if he had made a mistake, a figure emerged from the shadows.
"Hello, Elijah," the figure said, their voice low and menacing. "I see you're still protecting Rory. But for how long?"
Elijah's eyes narrowed as he stared at the figure. He knew that he had to be careful, that one wrong move could mean disaster.
But as he looked into the figure's eyes, Elijah realized that he was staring at someone he thought he could trust.
"Emily?" Elijah said, his voice barely above a whisper. "What's going on?"
Emily's expression was cold, her eyes glinting with malice.
"I'm afraid I've been playing both sides all along," Emily said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "And now, it's time for me to take what's mine."
-----
Elijah's eyes widened in shock as he stared at Emily. He had trusted her with his life, and now he was faced with the reality that she had been playing him all along.
"How could you, Emily?" Elijah asked, his voice shaking with anger. "I thought we were on the same side."
Emily's expression was cold, her eyes glinting with malice.
"I'm on the side of whoever pays me the most," Emily said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "And right now, that's Cassius."
Elijah's eyes narrowed as he stared at Emily. He knew that he had to be careful, that one wrong move could mean disaster.
"You're not going to get away with this, Emily," Elijah said, his voice low and menacing. "I'll make sure that Cassius pays for what he's done."
Emily's expression didn't change, but Elijah could see a flicker of fear in her eyes.
"I don't think so, Elijah," Emily said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "You see, I've taken certain... precautions. Precautions that will ensure my safety, no matter what happens."
Elijah's eyes narrowed as he stared at Emily. He knew that he had to be careful, that one wrong move could mean disaster.
"What kind of precautions?" Elijah asked, his voice low and menacing.
Emily's expression was cold, her eyes glinting with malice.
"I've taken Rory," Emily said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "And if you want to see her again, you'll do exactly as I say."
Elijah's eyes widened in shock as he stared at Emily. He knew that he had to act fast, to save Rory before it was too late.
-----
Rory's eyes fluttered open, and she was met with darkness. She tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through her head, forcing her back onto the cold, hard floor.
As she struggled to remember what had happened, Rory's mind was flooded with memories of Emily's betrayal. She had trusted Emily with her life, and now she was paying the price.
Rory's eyes scanned the darkness, trying to make out her surroundings. She was in some kind of cell, with stone walls and a cold, damp floor. There was no window, no door, just a small slot in the wall where food and water could be passed through.
Rory's heart sank as she realized the true extent of her captivity. She was trapped, with no way out.
As she lay there, trying to come to terms with her situation, Rory heard the sound of footsteps echoing outside her cell. The slot in the wall opened, and a tray of food was passed through.
Rory's eyes locked onto the tray, her stomach growling with hunger. But as she reached for the food, she saw a piece of paper attached to the tray.
It was a note written in familiar handwriting.
"Dear Rory," the note read. "I am sorry it had to end like this. But don't worry, I'll make sure you're taken care of. You'll be safe here, until Cassius is ready for you."
Rory's eyes widened in horror as she realized who had written the note. It was Emily, her sister, her betrayer.
