Sierra
My phone's ringtone woke me up. I slowly got up and picked it from the side table. Olivia? I checked the time immediately. It's 4am, why is she calling me this early. I answered the call immediately.
“Liv, you good?”
“Yeah. Have you checked?”
I raised a brow.
“Checked what?”
“Your email. Cross holdings sent the emails to the last batch of interns at midnight.”
My heart dropped. It's been a whole month since I sent out an application to Cross holdings. A month since I got my heart shattered. A month since I decided that love was a myth. What if I don't get accepted? Will that mean Dante and my parents are right?
“No.” A voice from the other side of the line answered. Liv. I forgot I was on a call.
“What?” I whispered.
“If you eventually don't get accepted, it doesn't mean you are a failure. It simply means Cross holdings don't recognise talent.”
“You're just trying to make me feel better.”
“Yes. But I’m also telling the truth. You are a ball of talent Sii. A great business minded woman. And I believe you will get accepted, just check your emails.”
I sighed.
I pulled out my laptop immediately and opened it. I paused, said a silent prayer and opened my emails immediately.
(One unread message from cross holdings.) My heart skipped. What if it's a rejection email? I closed my eyes tightly and clicked on it. I slowly opened my eyes.
Congra…..I opened my eyes immediately and it widened. (Congratulations. You have been accepted as a business intern at Cross holdings. Please send your credentials to the link.)
Oh my God!
I got accepted!
I am officially a cross holdings intern!
“Sii,” Liv called out slowly.
“I got accepted!!!! I freaking got accepted!” I screamed and jumped up from my bed.
“Oh my God, congratulations b***h!!!!” Liv screamed too.
“Thank you!!! Gosh Liv I'm so happy. I’m a freaking big company intern girlie now!!”
“I know right!!! Congratulations girl. Now you get to see the hottest Bachelor in Luminara city!” Liv squealed.
I paused.
I cleared my throat.
“Olivia, what are you talking about?”
“Well, we are celebrating.”
“I get to intern, work on myself and build my career. Not see a hot whatever.”
“I know okay. But you get to see him because he's your boss. Oh and they're two. Your boss and his best friend.”
I sighed.
“You really keep tabs on all the hot men in the city?”
“Yeah, just like every other normal person.” She said sarcastically. “It's crazy that you don't even know the face of your boss, and you haven't bothered to check.”
“I have other important things to do, checking hot men are not my priorities now. Besides,” I said with a grunted voice “hot men are disastrous.”
Liv scoffed.
“Dante isn't really hot, Sii. He just happens to be a billionaire who takes good care of himself. An ass too.”
“Well, same Joe..” I continued but was distracted by a notification on my laptop. Another email. From cross holdings. A rejection? Did they find out texting me was a mistake?
“What?” Liv asked.
“A new email from cross holdings.”
“Oh, probably an invitation.”
“What…?” I said as I clicked on the email. (An invitation to the Luminara business corporations dinner. Friday night.)
“It's really an invite,” I told Liv.
“Yeah, it's something they do yearly, interns are invited so they can get comfortable with the space they are about to enter.”
I heaved a sigh of relief. For a second I thought I was going to be rejected.
“How do you know about all this?”
“Some of us keep to date Sii.”
“Yeah. Good night Liv. Talk to you soon. Love you.”
“Love you.” She responded and the line went dead.
A business corporation's dinner. It wasn't compulsory so I definitely won't be attending. Crowds are definitely not my thing. My phone beeped. A message from Liv. ( I know you've probably decided not to attend this dinner but you should. You get to make connections, and companies take note of interns that attend. Sii, it will help you settle down. You might even get the opportunity to work under a great business individual in the company. Please go.)
I smiled. Liv knew me too well. ‘Take note of interns that attend’ that's probably a lie. But she has a point. I could make a great connection through this dinner. Dante might be there. Then he will know that I'm definitely doing it without his help. I guess I'm going after all .
Julian
Ethan walked into my office without knocking.
“You know that knocking is a thing right?” I asked while still focused on my computer.
“What we have going on now doesn't require knocking dude.”
I looked up then.
“What's going on?”
“Kingwill’s cosmetics gave us a condition.”
I sat up.
“Wasn't the deal closed already?” I asked immediately.
“Well, apparently, Skeet's enterprise offered them something we don't have.”
I raised my brows. “Which is?”
“Stability and reliability.”
I scoffed. “ And we don't have that?”
Ethan eyed me.
“Julian, you have a reputation of being a play boy. That might not be wholly true, but the city knows you as that. Kingwill’s cosmetics love to work with people and companies that they are assured can be trusted and will be loyal. And their way of knowing that is working with people who are settled in their relationship or marital life.”
I smiled sadly.
“So what? I’m supposed to suddenly get married today or tomorrow?”
“Well, their condition isn't really marriage.”
I looked at him expectantly.
“It's for them to be assured you are in a stable relationship. Mustn't be married.”
“Ethan I don't have a relationship and you of all people know that!”
“Well, find one.”
“What, I'm supposed to put out a billboard saying that I'm looking for a girlfriend?” He shrugged. “Some of us believe in love dude.”
“Yeah, dreamer boy. We know. That's why we are getting you a fake girlfriend.” Ethan said.
“I’m not dating someone I don't love.”
“It's business.”
“I can't do it.”
Ethan sighed.
“Well then, get ready to lose the deal to Dante.”
I sighed. That deal is a multi billion deal. Kingwill's cosmetics is a brand every business company wants to work with. Now Dante has pitched stability rubbish to them. He might be in a relationship or even f*****g married. But I wasn't losing this deal to them. They came to me first. I stood up.
“How do we find a fake girlfriend?”
Ethan smiled widely.
“Well, you leave that to me. I will sort it out.”
I nodded.
“Please someone reasonable dude.”
He laughed. “Yes sir!”
I sat down.
“Oh, and the business corporation's dinner is this Saturday,” Ethan reminded me.
“How many new interns do we have?”
“Seven.”
“Well, go represent me there.” I said.
“Uhm, we are going together. Kingwill's cosmetics will be there. We need to talk to them or Dante does.”
I grunted.
“Of course.”
He turned to leave.
“Call my assistant and please, knock whenever you want to get in here.”
“That assistant is your Sister dude and she won't knock too.”
“Piss off.”
He laughs and walks off.
A fake girlfriend?
Fuck Dante for making me do this.
