Sierra
“You are welcome to Luminara’s business event, enjoy your day.” The attendant said as I walked in after showing her my invitation link.
I adjusted my dinner gown which is rather uncomfortable. Liv made me wear this, talking about how I needed to look ravishing. This is torture. I entered the event hall and stood still. Finally, I get to attend a business corporation's dinner, not just as an invite but as an intern. One day, I will speak at this event. I knew it.
I walked over and sat down.
“Hi,” a voice beside me spoke. I winced slowly, I really wasn't ready to speak to anyone or try making friends with anyone.
“Hy.”
“My name's Isabella.”
“Hmm,’ I said. Not interested.
“You don't like talking?”
I finally looked at her.
“Yeah,” I said.
She smiled. “Okay, sorry for disturbing you.”
I looked at her again and she was focused on the speaker. Okay. I was rude. Liv would kill me if she was here.
“Sorry. That was rude.”
She smiled. “Yeah.”
“I’m Sierra. An intern.”
“Oh, what company?”
“Cross holdings.”
She gasped.
“I work there too!”
I smiled. “Really?”
“Yeah.”
“What's it like?” I suddenly asked.
“Well, it's cool.”
“Cool?”
“I’m not an intern, so I can't really say. But you will enjoy it I promise.”
“Hmm.”
“I’m serious,” she looked around and stood up. “Enjoy your night Sierra. Maybe we will see each other at the office.”
“Of course. Bye.” She walked out. My eyes followed her. She stopped in front of a man who she clearly isn't comfortable around with. Like she's scared of him. Is she okay? I sighed. I’m probably overthinking it.
The rest of the event was boring, billionaire Business men all talking about how they've made it in life. Boasting about achievements in disguise of advice. Men who probably don't regard the average masses. Men like my Father. Sometimes I wonder how I got into a family like that, a family that doesn't care about anything but their reputation. A family that competes against each other. The only family I speak to is my older brother. The only family who doesn't judge me or force me to work in the family company. The only person who blamed my parents when I moved out of the family house. I looked around then. The event is over, networking has started. This is the part where people ass lick others just to be recognised. I picked up my bag and stood up. Ready to leave until I saw him. Dante. With the blonde. I staggered. I convinced myself that he would never affect me again but I think I'm wrong. He came with the blonde. Dante never took me for occasions like this, he always says it wasn't necessary and I believed him. Was he ashamed of me?
He looked over and locked eyes with me. He smiled and held her waist pulling her close. Bastard. He is trying to let me know he's happy and probably better than me. Does he think I came here because of him? Prick! He kissed her slowly and smiled at me. I scoffed. If he was going to play this game then cool. Let's do it. I was over Dante and I would let him know that.
I looked around. Looking for a good candidate. A better looking man who wouldn't mind pretending to be my lover for the night. I saw him then. A tall, really handsome young man. He should be over 30. He looks rich too. Yeah, perfect candidate. I walked up to him.
Help me God. I stood in front of him then. He looks shocked.
“Forgive me,” I whispered and slammed my mouth to his. He froze. I pulled closer and held his neck, kissing him slowly. He parted his lips and I took advantage. It felt good. Crazy but good. I didn't even realize he was kissing me back or how long we've been kissing until he stopped abruptly. I looked into his eyes then, brown hazel seductive eyes. I touched my lips slightly. That felt ridiculously good.
“What the f**k?” He whispered.
“Sorry,” I said and looked at Dante to be sure he caught that. Sure enough, he did.
“You kissed me to make a show?” The guy I just kissed asked. I looked at him and he was looking at Dante too.
“I’m sorry. Again.” I whispered and walked away quickly. Almost running.
I entered the Uber and finally relaxed. Jeez! What have you done Sierra? Kissing a stranger is the last thing I've ever thought of doing, it wasn't even on my bucket list. But why did it feel good though? I touched my lips again. I removed it immediately. Thinking about a kiss should be the last thing I'm doing. I already proved to Dante that I had moved on and with a better person. The event is over, now it's time to start my new life as an intern at Cross holdings. I thought about the hot man I kissed. He's probably a business man too and for his sake, I hope he doesn't work with Skeet's enterprise. I won't ever see him again and that was great.
Cross holdings looks like its name. So beautiful and poise. I knew immediately I walked in that I would do great here. I walked towards the receptionist who smiled at me.
“Good morning ma'am, how can we help?”
“My name's Isabella Sierra, an intern.”
She smiled widely. “Welcome to Cross holdings,” she pointed to a door. “ The orientation room is there.”
“Thank you.” I smiled back and walked off.
The orientation hall was beautiful. Six people were already seated when I walked in. Everyone looked at me. I ignored and sat down near a lady.
The door opened then and a lady walked in. Isabella. The lady at the event. She looked at me and smiled slightly. It was a mischievous smile. Like she was both sorry and happy for me. I shrugged it off, it's my overthinking again.
“Good morning Interns. Welcome to Cross holdings.”
Everyone greeted back.
“The CEO will be here shortly to speak to you. We hope you find your stay here interesting.” She concluded and looked at me again with the same smile. Okay, suspicious.
The door opened before I could think of it again. Everybody looked towards the door including me and I froze. I closed my eyes immediately and slowly opened it. Maybe I’m hallucinating. No, I'm not. It's him! My event kiss partner? What is he doing here? I suddenly started feeling hot regardless of the AC in the hall.
“Good morning Interns. My name is Julian Cross. CEO of cross holdings. Welcome to the company.”
What? He is the Julian Cross? God. Why did the universe have to do this to me? Of all people it had to be him? I straightened. He probably won't recognise my face. People like him have a lot going on so they won't recognize a few seconds of kiss.
I looked up then and he was looking at me directly. He remembers.
I finally got accepted to Cross holdings and I allowed myself and Dante to ruin it. My eyes went moist and I knew immediately that I would cry if I didn't control it. Liv would kill me, I will kill myself before she does. Dante and my parents will finally be happy they are right about me.
I looked at Isabella and she was still smiling. I groaned. f**k you Dante. f**k me too.
“Miss?” the CEO called out.
Yeah, I'm probably doomed.
