CHAPTER ONE
Sophie POV
When Sophie stopped to catch her breath and take in her surroundings she didn't realise exactly how far her wolf had travelled. Not only had she made it out of the grounds and the surrounding forest, she had ran fast enough to be nearing the next city over 300 miles away. Whilst being in her wolf form was a must to keep her alert and able to hear if the others had caught up it would definitely be smarter to shift before getting too close to the city, especially the human city, worse than being caught would be to be caught by humans. Sophie didn't know much but what she did know scared her to death, the idea of being chained up and forced to shift for experiments was one of her biggest fears, right there next to an arrange marriage, God knows how she was going to avoid this one!
A scuffling sound in the distance brought me back, Oh no what was that?
The distant noises in the forest was enough to make her decision. Quickly shift, get dressed and run straight towards all the music she could hear and the lights, surely if she looked human and even remotely normal they shouldn't suspect a thing right?
Unless they were wolves?
'Oh well here goes nothing'
Keep going, keep going, just a few more minutes and you should be safe. The lights got brighter, the music got clearer, yes that was definitely laughter she could here...
and wham...what..an..idiot!
What wolf is so distracted by her surroundings that she trips on a bloody fence panel and catapults straight over the top into a crowd of people, how embarrassing!
Sophie opened her eyes as the lights went back on in the room, taking her back to where she was.
"Hey sweety I'm sorry where you having a snooze" said Caroline.
Caroline was the best, she was kind, funny, stunningly beautiful and she didn't give a damn what anyone thought, my kind of girl. We had became friends instantly.
"Nope, just remembering the night we met. I'm so thankful for everything you've done for me C I honestly don't know where I would be if it wasn't for you" i replied.
"You mean the night you literally landed on me, knocked my pizza flying and sent beer all over Liam, yes that was fun wasn't it! Flattery will get you nowhere darling, a promise is a promise and you my dear are still locking up for me tonight!" She replied mockingly.
Oh crap I had forgotten she had asked, don't worry stay calm, nothing will go wrong. It's only 2 hours and then the doors will be locked and you can hide upstairs until morning.
Caroline was looking at me very worried.
"Are you sure you can handle this? I can ask Liam to rebook, he'll only be a little offended, but I'll make it up to him" she replied with a wink.
"No don't be silly, the least I can do is cover for you so you can enjoy yourself, you've been hanging out with me constant for nearly 3 weeks already! It's the least I can do" I replied.
It really was.
Caroline had left and the bar was slowly getting quieter, half hour and I could shut the doors and escape upstairs. Caroline was the owner of the pub and she had happily gave me the upstairs living area to make my own seen as it wasn't currently being used. I really got lucky with her as a friend.
I was just about to walk out to the back to grab more glasses when the most amazing scent wofted through the bar doors and made me freeze. A smell so intoxicating it took my breath away I couldn't move. I felt like the rush of running through the forest had just entered my airways and cut off circulation. As I turned to see who had just walked through, fear sank straight back in and replaced the warmth I had felt.
Thats a wolf!
As soon as the thought had entered my head he turned directly to me asif he had heard it. The look from his eyes was so intense I couldn't look away.
He was just drop dead gorgeous, all tall and full of muscles. I just wanted to run my hands through that long dark blonde hair and get lost in his beautiful blue eyes!
Wow where the hell did that come from girl, calm down!
Did he know I was a wolf?
Could he feel me with the same intensity I did for him?
As she looked deeper into those beautiful blue eyes she could feel a chill rising through her entire body, causing goosebumps to erupt all over her skin, her wolf started to growl. Not in a defensive way but more intense, as if she didn't start walking towards this ridiculously gorgeous man her wolf was going to erupt from her.
No. This was not going to happen! She wasn't going to get caught out but some random man who waltzes into a bar asif he owns the place, looks like that and happens to be wolf. He was obviously sent by her step father to track her down and drag her back kicking and screaming. Well not today and definitely not by this guy.
Without even realising it she had been standing stock still with the door wide open and now everyone seemed to be looking at her. And the Greek god was now standing in front of her with a bewildered look upon his face.
"Excuse me, are you OK?"
"Do you need help with anything"
OK and I am still currently standing just staring, ok Sophie get your act together and find your words. Nobody was that good looking.
"Hi sorry, I was erm just about to go out back. If you would like a drink though I'm sure the guy actually working behind the bar can help with that one" I replied a bit too snarky than I planned but oh well.
I could hear a few drinkers snigger to themselves, like I had insulted the guy somehow.
Settling my wolf back down I manage to drag my gaze away and start walking back through the door, shutting it behind me and firmly erasing whatever connection my wolf was feeling.
Jake POV
Wow that was intense.
Who the hell was this wolf, I could smell her cent as soon as I entered the bar but it was different somehow. It felt like de ja vu but I know i would have remembered staring into those beautiful brown eyes.
"Hey Doug, who's the new girl?" I shouted over to the bar man.
"Just a stray Caroline picked up, you know what she's like. Can't help but help"
Hmm, a stray wolf. I don't recognise her or her scent, she can't be from any of the local packs. Maybe a rogue?
I wasnt planning on staying but maybe a quick pint to see If I can find out more.
"What's her story?"
Sophie POV
Urgh why won't he just leave! He's been sat at that stupid stool asking his stupid nosy questions for nearly an hour, what was Doug thinking I want to close up and disappear. He doesn't even care its passed closing time and he hasn't even paid for 1 pint yet, he's probably hoping to just walk out on the tab. Well not on my watch and definitely not at this bar.
"Urm excuse me boys, don't mean to interrupt what I'm sure is a very fascinating subject but i would actually like to hit my pillow at some point before morning"
The wolf grinned, he knows I can hear every word he's said. Why is he even bothering with Doug he knows he's human, he's hardly going to know any ligit information about me.
"Can you just settle up so I can lock up" I tried to say this with as much authority as possible, clearly it wasn't happening. Must be the height, they all assume I'm easy with how small and fragile I look, well newbie hear has no idea. I'm a rare white wolf decendant from the orginal wolf Catheline, there isn't a blood line stronger than mine!
"I won't ask again, get out....now!!"
I watched as his muscular jaw clenched but he still made no attempt to move.
Doug looks shocked and slightly entertained.
"Sorry Sophie no can do. You see Jake here is a silent partner which technically makes him my boss."
Oh s**t was all i could think.
"Actually come to think of it he's the boss of you too see as your helping Caroline and living upstairs"
My wolf growled. Oh great! Right enough is enough I need to get away from this guy. His scent is driving us crazy! All woodsy. He smelt like fresh pine mixed with an entoxicating mix of vanilla and cinnamon. I just wanted to walk straight up to him and jump his bones!
His jaw clenched again, he looks aggrevated. Oh god I hope he can't sense my attraction, or worse smell it. As a wolf it's easy to feel the attraction from others it's like a s****l tension that just emits through the air.
"Well in that case here's the keys, enjoy your selves!"
As I threw the keys to Mr muscles in an ettempt to be smooth, the bar doors came smashing open and 5 huge men strolled in.
No 5 huge wolves!
Pure panic ran through to my bones, they had found me. I was going to have to go back, I could fight off one or two maybe..but 5.. no way, I'd be buried alive by these guys.
Jake POV
Sophie is looking at me with so much annoyance written on her face. I can't decide what to make of her, she looks like she hates me but this electricity that I feel is screaming the opposite. I want her, no I need her!
Need to touch her soft delicate skin, to feel those beautifully plump lips on mine. What is this girl doing to me and why the hell can't I just ignore her. My wolf is going crazy just over her scent, her entoxicating aroma of sweet vanilla and some spice I just can't put my finger on, she's driving us wild.
The door burst open just as I was about to rise and run to Sophie, the need to kiss her unbearable.
"Sorry guys, bars closed" I shouted over my shoulder.
That was my first mistake, the smell of firewood burning into my nostrils telling me these were pack wolves made me turn instantly.
The biggest guy just grunted at me not taking his eyes away from Sophie.
That made me angry.
"We're just here for our property, we'll be on our way shortly."
That made me furious!!
I heard a small wine come from Sophie. My wolf growled, the need to protect her overwhelming us.
I stood instantly placing myself In the way without hesitation.
"Don't think so guys. You might want to move along before things get messy. This isn't your bar, this isn't your territory and she sure as hell isn't your property."
Sophie POV
Shear terror ran through my whole body. I watched In awe as Jake stood in the way of the guys, he was the biggest of them all. I hadnt noticed how muscly he was with his jacket on earlier but now I could sense the Alpha in him coming to the surface, all the muscles along his broad chest tensed ready for a fight. The other wolves clearly sensed this too as a few instantly stepped back towards the door.
"You can't take me, I won't go back. I'd rather die than go back with you." I stated as angrily as I could muster.
I hoped I sounded at least a little In control & confident. In my head I was in complete panic mode trying to figure out how I was going to get myself out of this.
The biggest brute growled at me.
"No offence princess but you don't have a choice, Alphas orders. You will be coming back with us, either willingly or by force"
With the creepiest grin he continue "personally I like by force" adding a wink as he stepped forward.
Urgh...thats rank! Like I'd ever go near this i***t. I hated my fathers - Well step-fathers choice in soldier wolves. He always goes for the brawn not the brains and they have all always been such disgusting pigs when it comes to woman.
"Don't make me vomit" was all I could muster up to reply with, my nerves where getting the better of me.
Another growl from this guy was all it took for Jake to fully lose it! He tackled him straight to the ground, buried his knee in his back to hold him down and snapped his arm clean In the opposite direction.
Wow this guy was quick, the other wolves hadn't even registered he was down until it was too late.
Ready for the next wolf Jake jumped straight to his feet. I couldn't help but admire the grace of how he took the guy down. He had definitely had some good training.
As I attempted to get closer to Jake to help he pushed me so hard out of the way It took me by surprise and i catapulted into the bar stools. At the same time the other 4 wolves all started to crouch down ready to pounce.
The doors behind the bar swung open causing everyone to pause and a very angry disheveled looking Caroline walked in.
Omg what is she doing back!
"Caroline I can exp...."
Before I even finished she held up her hand towards the wolves and with just the slightest of waves they all flew straight across the bar and crashed one on top of the other into one of the booths.
Unluckily not into the one I had already cleaned...the empty pints shattered and glass went everywhere.
Caroline turned directly to Jake "what the hell is going on here?"
"What? Why are you asking me? I might start most fights normally but it doesn't automatically mean every time its directly my fault. They came here looking for Sophie, and I would like to know why?" Replied Jake turning his gaze on me.
Oh crap! With everyone staring at me I didn't know what to do. Do I run? Do I just tell the truth? There's something about Jake that just makes me want to trust him, but can I?
Wait before they start grilling me...!
"Actualy before the interrogation on me begins, any chance you want to explain what all of that was Caroline? Or didn't you think it prudent enough to inform me you were a witch before I moved In upstairs? I mean I thought we were friends?"
I was truly hurt by Caroline's deception. Wolves and witched arnt exactly besties but they were know for at least getting along and working together when needed, at least that's what I was always told. Maybe she didn't trust me with her secret, not like I was chomping at the bit to tell her mine.
"I'm so sorry Sophie, I honestly would have but...Well...the thing is you were clearly running from something and I didn't want you to spooke and just skip town."
Caroline walked over to me and put her arms around me in a tight bear hug.
"I wanted to help you"
After explaining to everyone what had happened 3 weeks ago, I felt slightly relieved. It was nice to talk it through, get it all out in the open and honestly it was just refreshing to see the horror on their faces! Means they didn't agree with what my step-father had done.
Maybe I could trust them?
