The Ruin
Chapter One
“Why are you spacing out?” Alexandra heard the voice of Bethany, her co-worker in the distance and she jolted slightly, she blinked herself back to reality staring hard at the computer screen.
Just how long as she been out cold like that for Bethany to notice.
“Are you okay?” Bethany asked again.
“Yes… No.” Alexandra blurted in confusion, she didn’t know which answer to give, but she had been anxious all day, she gave up with a sigh. “I don’t even know.”
“You know you can tell me anything,” Bethany insisted and Alexandra rubbed her forehead tiredly, she relaxed her back into the chair. “I might have no solution, but then a problem shared is half solved.”
“I know…” Alexandra muttered.
“You said you were going on a date last night, did you argue with your boyfriend?” Bethany guessed, her big round, and eager brown eyes stared deeply like as if they were trying to bore into the deepest part of Alexandra’s soul.
“It’s about the date,” She answered with a small huff. “Yes, indeed I went there and we had a fight, and…”
She trailed off again, tears now welling in her eyes,
“He hit you again,” Bethany guessed and silently, she nodded her head, Bethany slammed her palms into the table and growled out loud. “That animal, what makes him think it is okay for him to put his hands on a woman?”
“I am tired, I don’t even know what to say.” She muttered as she wiped the tears that rolled down her cheeks. “He promised me not to do it again...”
“And yet, he did,” Bethany finished, “This is the universe showing you the sign to dump that bastard.”
“But I love him.” Alexandra muttered again, sniffing and wiping the more tears that rolled down her cheeks. “He was my boyfriend since we were in college.”
“And he had been abusing you since then, I think it is high time for you to realize that he doesn’t love you, and then you should end it while you still can.” Bethany advised, Alexandra was unable to speak because she had started sobbing. “What did he say afterwards?”
“The usual, that he is sorry,” She muttered, her phone rang suddenly, interrupting their conversation, she searched frantically for her phone in her bag, while Bethany paused observing. “Excuse me... it’s my sister.”
“Aria, I’m a bit busy right now if only—” She was interrupted immediately, by a voice that didn’t belong to her sister.
“Alexa, this is Mariah.” She introduced in a rather nasal voice that left Alexandra feeling unsettled, her eyebrows furrowed together in concern, she knew who Mariah was, but what she didn’t know was why Mariah was the one answering Aria’s phone.
“Where is Aria? Why are you with her phone? What is going on?” she asked curiously, thinking about the worst scenario possible. “Are you both okay?”
“A-Alexa,” Mariah burst into tears, making Alexandra’s chest tightened painfully. “Aria suddenly fainted and we had to rush her to the hospital!”
“What?”
Her sister collapsed all of a sudden.
“What hospital are you right now?”
“I am afraid your sister’s case is quite critical.” The doctor started with a rather soothing voice, on hearing that Alexandra adjusted in the seat, she pushed forward to the table. “She would need to be taken under admission and utmost medical care would be administered.”
“What is wrong with her?” Alexandra’s hands pooled with sweat. “Does it have a name?”
“I will advise you to remain calm and listen to me,” His voice sounded grave, Alexandra knew within herself that whatever was wrong with Aria was quite severe. “Miss Aria has leukemia.”
That was the bomb, Alexandra felt herself travel from where she was seated, out of all the things she had thought about, she never thought about the option of cancer.
Shit! This can’t be possible.
“Doctor, I don’t understand,” She shifted uncomfortably in her seat. “Are you sure? I mean… she has been fine and healthy.”
“Madam, there is no reason for me to give a false alarm, the test has confirmed it to be leukemia, but thankfully it’s still in the early stages and she could make a full recovery if we perform a surgery.”
Alexandra felt her heart sink, it was real, this s**t was truly happening; she sniffed back the tears that had now started to gather in her eyes.
“There is a solution, right? How do we get her this surgery?” The doctor sighed in response.
“We would need to find her a donor, someone whose blood matches hers.”
To get the test done, she needed money, but she was short on money, that’s why she had gotten a taxi to Luke’s house, Luke was her boyfriend, and she was hoping he could lend her some money to carry out the blood test. Apart from the financial help, she might be needing emotional ones too, and Luke has been apologizing for hitting her and she just ignored him totally.
“Sir, can you go any faster?” Alexandra Colton asked the older man who drove the taxi she boarded.
“Ma'am, the traffic isn’t lifting.” The man retorted patiently. She knew it wasn’t the driver’s fault, she was only frustrated.
“Thank you so much!” She yelled like a crazy woman as she alighted from the taxi, just a few miles away from Luke’s house.
She pushed the door open the lights in the living room were still on, but Luke wasn’t in sight. Her detective's eyes fell on the long coat draped over the sofa and then they darted to the small table in the living room where two empty champagne glasses lay.
Suspiciously, she inched forward to inspect the area and her eyebrows furrowed, this better not be a woman’s purse. Alexander regarded the spilled wine as though she would look at blood and then she decided to follow her instincts by heading in the direction of the bedroom.
She could hear them as she approached his bedroom, she could hear loud sounds of wet skin slapping against the other and moans filled her ears.
Disgusting.
The sounds were f*****g disgusting.
Her green eyes became filled with tears as she stared into the bedroom of her boyfriend Luke; now she could see him. He was naked and he was so f*****g busy boring his manhood inside the other naked woman in the bed.
They didn’t even notice they had a visitor.
Was it really that good?
Luke’s cheating didn’t hurt her as much as the recognition of the woman in his bed.
“Aah... right there, yes baby!” the lady arched her back allowing Luke a deeper penetration.
Adrianna’s blue eyes suddenly danced in the direction of the door and they widened when they saw Alexandra standing in the doorway.
“Ooh, you’re way better than Alexa,” Luke started speaking, his body shaking slightly from pleasure. “She is just too stiff and boring.”
“No...” Adrianna, Alexandra's best friend murmured as she tried to shove Luke away from her. “Luke, stop...”
“What is it?” He asked even as he grunted, he kept thrusting into her.
“Stop... No... Look.” she shouted as she pointed in the direction of the door. Luke’s grip on Adrianna’s waist slackened as soon as his grey eyes met with Alexandra’s teary eyes.
“What the f**k is going on here?” Alexandra demanded and the ill feeling of betrayal rushed in.
