I hadn’t dressed up for anything in weeks. I have avoided mirrors just so I wouldn’t scare the s**t out of myself from the lack of personal care. And I probably…no definitely, need to take a long hot bath. As much as I was trying not to want to leave my bed, looking at Serenity’s sparkling light blue eyes made me feel guilty. I really haven’t been myself since our graduation. I haven’t hung out with my girls in quite a while. I sighed and nodded my head.
“Ok. Where are we going?”
She squealed and smiled harder when the words left my lips.
“That was much easier than I thought that’d be! I just knew you were going to give me hell.” She admitted. “I heard about this party that is happening tonight at a new nightclub called Elites.”
I frowned. I have heard of the club before. It has some…interesting and suspicious gossip swirling around about it. But I also heard that getting in is quite pricey.
“Wait a minute, I don’t have…”
“And before you say anything, tonight is specifically dedicated to the ladies. We are free to enter until 11.” She interrupted me.
I looked at the brightly lit clock that was on my light grey, 2-drawer nightstand. I gasped at the time being that it read 8:28.
“Ren, that’s not nearly enough time to get ready!”
She rolled her eyes at me and began to make her way to the door.
“Stop trying to argue with me and make it be enough time! Go take your bath and get ready, I’ll bring the clothes in here while you beautify yourself and look like my friend instead of this homeless person standing in front of me right now! We are leaving here no later than 9:45.” She stated in a matter-of-fact type of way and walked to her room.
I sighed and opened up the top right drawer to my light grey chest of drawer and withdrew a clean and cute black bra and red boy shorts. It isn’t like I’m getting laid or anything. My underwear doesn’t matter. There was no one in my life worth f*****g so, I had nothing to worry about.
I walked out of my room and into the bathroom that was directly across from my bedroom door. I turned on the steaming hot water in the shower and began to take my gown off. I made the mistake of looking in the mirror, and damnit, who the hell was that!?
My dark brown hair looked matted and dry. The rings under my eyes made it look like I hadn’t slept in weeks. I even see crumbs nestled on the side of my mouth.
Ok, so maybe I should’ve taken better care of myself. Looking like this, I wouldn’t hire me either.
And then shook my head. “No. Don’t you do this right now. Tonight, is about celebrating the fact that I made through school.” I said quietly to grotesque being staring back at me in the foggy mirror.
I turned away from the unsightly view in the mirror and stepped inside the shower. The steamy hot water hit my skin and it felt divine. I lathered the body wash on to my loofah sponge and washed all over my body. I even shampooed my hair and I could feel the softness returning to my hair under my fingers.
I thought about the time and how little of it that I had to get ready, so I quickened my pace. I jumped out of the shower, dried off, wrapped the towel around my head and then put my underwear on. I opened the bathroom door a little to let out some of the steam from the shower.
I oiled up my entire body with my favorite mango scented body butter. I unwrapped the towel from my hair and although it was still very wet, it fell past my shoulders. I tried to blow dry my hair as fast as I could and after a while, I felt like it was pretty much dry, so I decided to put my super wavy hair in a cute but messy ponytail. I even left some of the strands hang off the side of my face. It was cute. I quickly applied some glittery eye makeup and eyeliner to make my hazel eyes pop.
Yes, as unoriginal as it may be, my parents named me Hazel because of my hazel eye color. Needless to say, I was definitely picked on as a kid.
I finally applied some shimmery lip-gloss to my lips and smirked at myself in the mirror. There I was! I forgot what the hell I looked like for a minute but staring back at me was the woman I once knew.
I began to wonder where our other roommate, Ava, might be right now. I hadn’t talked to her much in the past few weeks because she has a new boyfriend, or fling, that has had her full attention lately.
I didn’t have to dwell on my missing friend’s whereabout for too long because as soon as I opened the door, she was glaring at me.
“You’re going to make us late! Hurry up!” She always was impatient. I sucked my teeth and rolled my eyes as I walked past her to my room and closed my door.
“I’ll be out in a minute!” I protested.
“You smell good! ‘bout damn time” she stated. “And you look cute. I can’t wait to see you in that sexy ass outfit that Ren gave you.”
Hmmm, sexy outfit? Sexy? And then I saw it. My eyes grew and you’d probably would’ve thought that they were going to pop out of my head.
“WHERE THE HELL IS THE REST OF IT?!” I screamed.
