Joan was a mess, her eyes red and puffy from crying. She had never felt so helpless in her life. She had just sent her best friend off to a strange place, and she couldn't protect her. As she walked through the airport, lost in thought, she bumped into a stranger. He was tall, with piercing blue eyes and a kind face. Excuse me, are you okay? he asked, noticing her tears. The stranger asked Joan if she was okay, and she nodded, trying to compose herself. But before she could say anything else, he was already hurrying away. Sorry, I'm late! he called out over his shoulder, before disappearing into the crowd. Joan watched him go, feeling a sense of disappointment. She could have used a friendly ear to talk to, but it seemed like no one had time for her today. She sighed and continued walking, lost in her thoughts. She wasn't in the mood for conversation anyway, she told herself. She just wanted to go home and process her emotions. Joan walked into her empty apartment, feeling a sense of loneliness wash over her. She went straight to her phone and sent Maya a message. Hey, just wanted to check in and make sure you're doing okay. Let me know when you land! But as she waited for a response, she remembered that Maya was still on the plane. She wouldn't be able to reply for hours. Joan felt a pang of anxiety, wondering if Maya was doing okay. She had been so scared and nervous about leaving, and Joan couldn't help but feel a sense of worry. She tried to distract herself by watching TV, but her mind kept wandering back to Maya. She wondered if she was eating, if she was comfortable, if she was feeling okay. As the hours ticked by, Joan found herself checking her phone every few minutes, waiting for Maya's response. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Maya's response came through. Hey Joan! I landed safely and I've booked a hotel room for the night. I'm exhausted and just want to rest. Tomorrow, I'll head to the new place. Thanks for checking in on me! Joan breathed a sigh of relief, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. She was glad Maya was safe and sound. Maya, on the other hand, was feeling drained. The long flight and the emotional turmoil had taken a toll on her. She just wanted to rest and forget about everything for a while. As she made her way to the hotel, Maya felt like she was in a daze. The unfamiliar surroundings and the quiet streets made her feel like she was in a different world. When she finally reached her hotel room, Maya collapsed onto the bed, feeling exhausted and alone. She knew she had a long journey ahead of her, but for now, she just wanted to sleep. The next morning, Maya woke up feeling a bit more refreshed. She looked around the hotel room, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings. She knew she couldn't stay here for long, she had to start her new life. After getting ready, Maya took a deep breath and stepped out of the hotel room. She hailed a taxi and gave the driver the address of the place she would be calling home for the next few months. As the taxi drove through the streets, Maya couldn't help but feel a sense of nervousness. She was starting a new life, alone, in a strange place. She didn't know what the future held, but she was determined to make it work. When they arrived, Maya was taken aback by the beauty of the place. It was a cozy little cottage, surrounded by trees and a lush garden. She felt a sense of peace wash over her, and for the first time in weeks, she felt a glimmer of hope. The cottage was lovely, but she knew she couldn't afford to stay here for long without finding a job. She walked into the nearby town, looking for a place to start her job search. She passed by a few shops and restaurants, and finally saw a sign that caught her eye Help Wanted at a local café. Maya walked in and introduced herself to the owner, a friendly woman named Sarah. They chatted for a bit, and Maya learned that the café was looking for a part-time waitress. Sarah offered Maya the job on the spot, and Maya accepted gratefully. She was relieved to have found work so quickly, and was excited to start her new life. As she left the café, Maya felt a sense of accomplishment. She had taken the first step towards building a new life, and she was determined to make it a success. Maya's first day at the café was going well. She was enjoying the fast-paced environment and the friendly regulars. But then, a strange man walked in and changed everything. At first, Maya thought he was just another customer, but as he sat down at the counter, he started making her feel uncomfortable. He would touch her arm or her shoulder as she passed by, and make lewd comments. Maya tried to brush it off, but the man's behavior was becoming increasingly aggressive. He started touching her in unpleasant and uncomfortable places, and Maya had had enough. Without thinking, she slapped him across the face. The café fell silent, and all eyes were on Maya and the strange man. The man looked shocked and outraged, but Maya didn't back down. She stood her ground, her heart racing, and said, Don't touch me again. The man Maya had slapped was none other than Richard Langley, a wealthy and influential businessman in the town. He was known for his ruthless tactics and his ability to ruin people's lives with a single phone call. Maya had no idea who he was, but she soon found out. As soon as the slap echoed through the café, Richard's face turned red with rage. He stood up, his eyes blazing with anger, and pointed a finger at Maya. You'll pay for that, he growled. You'll regret the day you ever laid eyes on me. Maya felt a shiver run down her spine. She had no idea what she had just gotten herself into. She tried to apologize, but Richard was having none of it. A new customer walked into the café. Jaxon, the stranger who had bumped into Joan at the airport, the man who she had lost her virginity to, had finished his business in town and was exploring the local scene. As he entered the café, he noticed a commotion at the counter. A man, Richard, was towering over a young woman, Maya, his face red with rage. Jaxon's instincts told him to mind his own business, but he couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. He watched as Maya stood up to Richard, refusing to back down, and something inside him clicked. He couldn't stand by and watch a woman being bullied. Without hesitation, Jaxon strode over to the counter, his eyes locked on Richard. I think you've made your point, he said, his voice calm but firm. Leave her alone. Richard turned to face Jaxon, his expression darkening. Mind your own business, he snarled. But Jaxon didn't back down. He stood his ground, his eyes locked on Richard. Richard, still fuming, refused to back down until one of his henchmen whispered something in his ear. Suddenly, his expression changed from anger to fear. He took a step back, his eyes widening in surprise. You're...Jaxon Vash? he stuttered. Jaxon nodded, his eyes never leaving Richard's face. That's right, he said, his voice firm. Richard's eyes darted to Maya, then back to Jaxon. He seemed to be calculating his next move, but then he backed off, his tail between his legs. As soon as Richard was gone, Maya turned to Jaxon, her eyes shining with gratitude. Thank you, she said, her voice sincere. Jaxon smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. No problem, he said. I couldn't just stand by and watch. And then, their eyes met, and they both remembered the night Maya's mind raced as she looked at Jaxon, the man who had taken her virginity without her consent. She had been trying to escape the trauma of that night, but now it was staring her in the face. She remembered the struggle, the feeling of being overpowered, and the pain. She had been drunk, but she knew she had said no. Yet, Jaxon had still forced himself on her. Maya's heart was racing, her hands shaking with anger and fear. She didn't know what to do, but she knew she couldn't just stand there. Maya's eyes narrowed, her gaze fixed on the man who had haunted her memories for so long. She didn't know his name, and she didn't care. All she knew was that she wanted nothing to do with him. She turned to leave, but her eyes locked onto his once more. I don't know what kind of game you're playing, she said, her voice cold and detached, but I want no part of it. Leave me alone. With that, Maya turned and walked away, leaving Jaxon standing alone in the café, a mixture of shock and guilt written across his face. She had faced her past, and she had come out on top. She didn't need to know his name. All she needed was to move on.
