The awkward silence between Katherine and Aurora was disrupted by a loud knock on the door.
“Who is it?” Katherine said as she took steps towards the door to see who it was that was knocking that early.
Katherine opened the door to discover it was Aurora's Mum, Mrs. Lisa Stone. “Good morning Mummy”, Katherine greeted her.
The greeting was followed by a response from Mrs. Lisa as she walked into the hotel room where Aurora was just lying still on the bed unbothered.
“Aurora my dear, how are you faring?” she called out to her not minding the attitude Aurora was giving her.
Aurora didn't say a word to her mum. She was still upset about the fact that her Mum couldn't even stand up to her dad especially as it has to do with something as trivial as marriage which is a lifetime decision.
After much hesitation, Aurora sat up. Looking keenly into her mum's eyes, she asked, "Mum how did you find me here?" Without waiting for a response, her attention was diverted to Katherine, giving her a stern gaze.
Katherine said nothing but only hung her head down like a child who had just been reprimanded for consuming a lot of candy.
"She had to call me when she couldn't find you, where did you wander off to by the way?"
As Aurora tried to speak, she immediately broke down in tears, she was sobbing uncontrollably. Mrs. Stone brought her closer and gave her a warm, tight hug as shed tears too.
"Mum, will things eventually get straightened up between Dad and myself?", Aurora said looking up to her Mum's face. Mrs. Stone who was already caught in a web of a rollercoaster of emotions only kept sobbing without uttering a word.
She did not utter a word but just looked away trying not to maintain any form of eye contact with Aurora.
Aurora immediately wiped the tears that were trickling down her face and detached herself from the embrace.
“Aurora my dear, you'll have a lot of convincing to do trying to get your Father to change his mind on this issue.”
“Mum it's all good”, Aurora replied with a tone that seemed unbothered.
"Aurora, can you return home with me?" Mrs Stone asked. "Mum, please let's not tow this path all over again, you heard when Dad outrightly disowned me and asked me to leave his house".
"I could speak to him on your behalf, even if it'd require me to beg at his feet". "Mum, what exactly are you begging for and to what end?" "We can both attest to the fact that Dad is an egoistic and selfish person who doesn't care about anyone but himself!" Aurora yelled.
"You would not speak about your Father in that condescending manner, Aurora Stone!" Mrs. Lisa Stone said after giving her a befitting slap across her face.
"I'm sure I raised you better than this and none of these changes the fact that he's still your father".
That was the only cue Mrs. Lisa Stone needed to say no further. She took her bag and her car keys and bid the girls farewell, despite being annoyed that was after she had transferred some notes to their individual accounts.
Aurora stood there rubbing her cheeks due to the effect from the slap resolved never to give in to get dad's demands.
She was definitely not weak at heart and had finally braced herself for the battle ahead. Since her Father, Mr. Stone was proving to be stubborn and hard but to c***k, she'd definitely bring back to his notice that he had raised her to be just as stubborn and resolute as he was.
That is, just in case he had forgotten for a moment, the daughter whom he had raised.
"Aurora, I think you should return home and.." Before Katherine could complete what she was saying, Aurora had hushed her with a "Not now Katherine, Please!"
Aurora quickly changed into something more comfortable and left the premises of the hotel. She needed to clear her head of all the events that had played out in her life in just a month!
She was gradually losing her sanity and she needed to stay put in order to be able to pull through all these without losing herself in the process.
As she took a stroll, her attention was caught by a Billboard advertising for the position of a Secretary at the very famous Maryville Constructions.
She walked into the company to inquire about the vacant position and when the interview would be held.
Her interview day was on Monday, the following week. The receptionist had furnished her with all the necessary information and she was on her way out when she bumped into a tall, full-bearded man whose presence frightened the entire staff.
"Don't you use those eyes of yours?" He yelled at her and walked away briskly without considering if she got hurt as a result of the bump. The receptionist immediately hurried to where she was.
"Are you hurt?" she inquired."I'm fine, just little pains" Aurora replied. She led her carefully towards the entrance/exit of the premises. "I'm Bianca and I really hope you pass the interview for the job on Monday", she said.
"I look forward to seeing you again and of course working with you, do take care of yourself and take some medications for the pains", she finally said and bid her goodbye.
As Aurora boarded a taxi back to the hotel, she could not help but wonder what manner of mysterious men she had met in the little space of being away from home. From the weird one who saved from the evil clutches of Ryan Gordon to this one who seemed so grumpy and overbearing.
She made up her mind to avoid everything that had to do with him if she eventually got the job for the position of the Secretary at Maryville Constructions. It was actually one of her dream companies and she had always looked forward to working with them some day.
She was already one inch close to her dreams and not even the grumpy fellow could get in her way. After what looked like forever, she was finally beaming with smiles as she was already imagining working with Maryville Constructions.
Little did she know that she was in for a long ride and a lot more than she had bargained for.
