CHAPTER 40: THE ENGAGEMENT PARTY...

2154 Words
ADAM’S POV: I smiled as I saw Angel talking with a group of her school friends. It was something I always wang to see. It's like an addiction for me to see the smile on her rosy lips. No doubt everyone can tell that she is a multi-billionaire at just one sight. She always carries herself with dignity, pride, Charm and not to mention Character. The expensive jewellery and clothes are never her desire and yet she never fails to show the world that how the CEO of the most influential company carries herself.  The truth is, she is easy to make happy. You don't need a bouquet or a trip halfway across the world to make her happy. Just a little smile while sitting beside her, talking would make her the happiest girl ever and that's what I love the most about her. No doubt, her purity, wisdom, way to look into the eyes of life and malice are so different from any girl I've known till this date and trust me when I say that I've known many. Not just her but being with her has made me realise how a small time with the family is precious than anything else in the world. “Adam, meet Mr Vincent Danielle. He has been an old acquaintance to both Black as well as Steel industries.” I looked back at dad who came with a man who was just the same age as him. Looking at him all I could think was that this face makes a resemblance to someone I know closely. I shook off the feeling and we shook our hands. I could tell by the look in his eyes that he was a man of his words. And of course, I knew him as he is the CEO of one of the leading company's in America. “It is pleasure meeting you Mr Danielle. I've heard many things about you, All good.” I added at the last when he raised his brow at me. He really is a very good business but his relationship with his family is so bad and so is his reputation for being a lying husband. It surely isn't any of my business but if I'm being honest to myself, even a blind can tell that the couple isn't on any talking terms. I know him cause he is considered a big fish in the corporate ocean. After talking to him for the next five minutes, I moved my eyes through the crowd to find a certain beauty. “Looking for me, Mr Black?” I took a deep breath and turned to my beautiful girlfriend. Smiling at her beautiful face, I warped my arms around her waist and pulled her towards my side. “Certainly, Miss Steel. Come I want you to meet some friends you didn't meet the last time you came to New York.” She nodded her head and we moved to the table that was given to my friends. “Did you talk to dad about the signatures?” I heard her whisper as the slow music around us made the room filled with lot more ears than we usually are used to. “I didn't, but you sit with them for a while and I'll, okay?” I told her. She has a point though. We need to sign the papers before we are engaged and we do need the answer cause our little brains couldn't find one. “Okay, but we only have an hour before the engagement and...” I nodded my head cutting her short before she says anything further as we reached my friend's table. “I know, I know, relax okay and meet me at the head office of this hotel in the next 15 minutes. I'll be ready by then.” I saw her nod and smiled at my friends. “Hey Guys, Meet An... Sapphire Steel. My beautiful Girlfriend and soon to be Mrs Black.” I saw Sapphire blush and pulled a chair out for her to sit. “And Sapphire, this is Alexander and Emily, you already know them and the rest I'm introducing from left to right. George, Joshua, Rose and Hadley.” I spoke to them for a minute and after I was sure that Angel was comfortable with them, I nodded at Angel for once and left to find dad. He has made a complex Testament and Angel wants to make sure that Dad does not do anything to drink us into not signing the papers that we prepared a year ago to make sure that the crazy a** will of making 1st born the CEO and marrying him or her off at 18 is stopped with me and Angel. I don't know either if it will be in the interest of our kids or even if they will give importance to such nonsense. I just don't want my kids to consider my great grandfather as a lunatic as I do. Well, the last two words weren't meant to be said like that. “Dad, I have something important to discuss.” Dad looked at me sideways and nodded at an old business partner of the Steel industry and we moved to the office room. After understanding the real reason for all this paperwork I just called Angel to this over with. Angel walked through the door within ten minutes and dad took the signed documents. “It is going to real nasty in no time, isn't it?” I continued to look at the wall in front of me, not wanting to say the truth out loud. “Maybe, maybe not... Anyways, let's go back to the party shall we?” Angel gave me a small smile and nodded. We walked back into the ballroom hand in hand and soon after we were in the centre of the room with Dad, Flora and Little Mia. “May I have your attention, ladies and gentlemen. Today we are here to celebrate my dear sweetheart, Sapphire Steel’s birthday and we are also going to have an engagement party for my dear son Adam and Sapphire.” Dad announced and everyone raised their glasses. Soon the birthday cake was cut and what made me so furious was how the taste of the cake was the exact opposite of what she prefers. Still, I fed her just a little and nodded dad to not to feed her much of it. Angel on the other hand gladly eat the miserable of the cake and eat it with a smile on her face. As expected, Flora had to take a big slice of it to feed her but before she can do that and make Angel throw up right in front of almost 500 people, I took a big bite from the rest leaving just a tiny price in her hand. Flora gave me a furious look but as she can't do anything about the situation, she just went with the flow. After a few minutes of talk, the engagement rings were asked to bring forward. The room was buzzing with music, laugh, talk, claps and cheers as the rings were bought forward. Angel smiled as she saw Mia carrying the rings in her hands and I bent to her level to take them from her. Soon the rings were exchanged, mine was an Asscher cut Emerald with platinum ring and Angel’s was the same but just in more detailed and delicate diamonds around it to make it look more delicate than it already is. “Now, do I have the honour to have this dance with my new Daughter?” Dad asked sweetly after Angel and I took a short rest after our first dance. She smiled and nodded her head, taking the offered hand. I smiled looking at her as she smiled through her eyes as she felt the love of her father. There is no doubt that she was daddy's little girl but on the other side, she never knew or had any mother figure for her. As they danced, I saw Flora eyeing them like a hungry predator, waiting for his Que to act. I shook my head at the thought. There is no way is ruining anything more than she already did. In the span of these two years, I figured out that there is no way she is going to sit still and watch us enjoy happiness. So, as soon as I became the CEO, I immediately contacted the architecture team to design and build a beautiful house as per My Angel’s taste. And after knowing her for a year, I concluded that she is simple yet elegant and so should be our home. She soon returned to our table with her brown eyes glowing like she had everything she ever wanted. I removed a flick of her hair from her face and she took a deep breath before relaxing on the chair. “I’m sorry for the cake, Angel. I should have checked it before letting it pass.” I sat beside her at our table after dancing and popping champagne. “This is the first thing you want to say after we got engaged?” I smiled hearing her sweet giggle. “No really Angel, this wasn't meant to happen at all. I shouldn't have let her take all the arrangements of this party in her hands.” I signed, laying back on the chair. “It is okay, really. Let's just make sure that she doesn't decide our wedding cake.” We chuckled and held our hands under the table looking at the rings. Even when everything was moving so fast, it wasn't a burden as we thought it would be. We thought that if we are going to rush the stuff up then there are chances of us being a disastrous marriage. But right now, after two years of knowing each other like the back of our hands, everything around us only seems to be just a formality. I've been friends with many girls and given that Emily is my best friend, I've never left any attraction towards any of them. No doubt, we have our differences but not once I felt any difference between our hearts. As cliche as it may sound, this can be the exact feeling of what someone feels when they find their soulmates. We talked to the people who came to congratulate us. Talked about what dad told me. Danced with Mia, simultaneously. Yup! We had a roly-poly thing in front of all these people. Son after it was almost midnight when we left the venue and reached home. As always, Angel was so tired of wearing the painful heels that she took them off in the car as soon as it started moving. She was going to wear them back but I stopped her. “Wait, Angel.” I opened her door and lifted her in bridal style as she just smiled. According to her, it will be odd for her now if I forget to carry her home every time we walk out the door with her in high heels. I shook my head and chuckle at the thought and looked at her as she smiled at me. “You look stunning, Angel.” She hid her face in my shoulder while blushing and smiling like the barbie that she is, making me smile in content. “You’ve said it for the fifteenth time in last 5 hours.” She mumbled and we entered the fireplace. “I can’t help it. It is not everyday that you wear the clothes that you brought by your choice.” I sat her down on the sofa and took her toes in my hand. “You know you are spoiling by all those massages, right? What is your cunning plan behind all this is, Mr Black.” I shook my head and gave her the most charming smile I ever had. “Well you know it all to well. You should be so engrossed with my massages and cooking that you won’t even look at the most handsome man walking by you.” I sassed and continued to massage her toes and ankle, making her close her eyes in satisfaction. “How can I, I’m already looking at him.” Her voice lingered in the silence of the room, mixing with the sound made by the fireplace. I looked at her, adoring her as she almost went to sleep. Well, that isn’t gonna happen is it? Cause someone jumped out of the dim light, screaming Happy birthday near Angel’s eyes and waking her up with a start. AND I just shook my head at the culprit...
