Chapter Seventeen

Adele's POV: I had traveled that last few hundred miles by foot to the reservation. I didn't want to risk jolting my sister and our bags around, so I opt on walking the rest of the way. By the time my sister had fallen to the ground, she was back in her human form, her body was being poisoned and I needed her back. She was all I had left. I had continued to force myself to think positive and keep my hopes up that my sister would live through this. Once we crossed that invisible line into the reservation, I couldn't stop the relief that flowed over me. I had made it. My feet were sore and my back hurt slightly due to carrying all of our bags, but that didn't matter. I could also sense a small amount of magic. I smiled and peered down at my unconscious sister and said "we made it sister. We made it to the reservation. Now, I just have to locate Roman and his group." As I walked further on, I sensed the very faint scent of wolf, which caused my eyebrows to furrow in confusion. I knew that there were no more wolf shifters, the HAA had put a stop to that, so why was there wolf scent here? I was soon brought from my confusing thoughts, by a deep female voice "halt right there miss. What brings you to our home? Is anyone else with you?" I looked up to see a beautiful and gorgeous female who was tall, with medium-long black hair and tan skin. She was wearing some sort of animal skin upon her body that was beautifully decorated with beading, small skulls, and tails of foxes. Her hair was even decorated with a few feathers and beads. My eyes roamed around her, taking in the other 6 people with her. Seven in total. Five males and one other female. I bowed my head in respect to her, as the faint scent of wolf grew stronger now. I replied to her in a calm tone "my name is Adele Melbourne and I carry my unconscious sister Zarina Melbourne. We traveled hundreds of miles to come here, we are to meet with our good friends Roman and some of his people." The woman looked taken back by my words and spoke again "you wouldn't happen to be of the Royal Melbourne family would you? The daughters of Lord and Lady Melbourne?" My eyes glistened with hearing our parents names and a whimper escaped my lips. I nodded and said "the very ones. Please you have to help her. We were in the National Forest for the past week, we were ambushed and stacked mere hours ago. I didn't get hurt, but she did. She took the worst of it. Please, I can sense the magic and wolf here, we were believed that all the wolf shifters among other shifters and creatures of the supernatural were nearing extinction." One of the males that was standing to the right called out "we are from the shifting community, descendants of the wolf shifters. Our ancestors. We carry a very light, almost nonexistent wolf scent. We'll explain more later, we must get them to the medic now Akita." The woman before me turned to the male and nodded once, before she took my sister into her arms, and walked in the direction she came from. Ten minutes later, we reach the reservation's medic. I follow Akita and my sister inside while the others wait patiently outside. My sister is placed by the blazing fire on some beautiful soft white furs. Akita turns to me and speaks "you are to stay here with your sister, until we come back with medic. Once we get back, I want you to come with me. Your sister will be in good hands I promise you." I nodded as I took my seat next to my sister and placed her head into my lap, gently combing my fingers through her hair. I started to sing our lullaby while watching the flames. The flames began to grow and make shapes as I continued to sing. They were telling a story. Our story. When I ended the lullaby, the flames died back down. I caught their scents, before I heard them. Akita entered the cave first followed by a handsome male. He looked to be around my age if not slightly older. Like Akita his clothing choice was much the same, his hair was long and braided on the sides, tied with tan leather and feathers laced throughout his hair. He castes his eyes down and he bowed before saying "its a pleasure having you both here. When Akita had told me that Lord and Lady Melbourne's daughters were here I couldn't believe it. Please know your sister is in good hands Little Lady." I gave him a simple nod and stood up after placing my sisters head gently back down into the furs, and said "it's an honor being here, we have friends meeting us here. I need to find them and give them an update. I trust she's in good hands from here on out. Otherwise it'll be your blood that seeps into every single crack within the cave. Be sure she comes back to me alive and fully healed." I followed Akita outside afterward. when Akita and I were a safe distance away from the cave, she stopped walking and turned around to face me and said "what Khale had said to you back at the trails earlier, he meant it. We are descendants of our ancestors. We can't shift or outrun humans, but we do have slightly better eye sight and hearing then humans do. The wolf scents that you smell will be all over the reservation, but never outside the reservation. Humans who enter, will not be able to detect us, only other supernatural's. This place is very sacred and it means a lot to us. We live off the land here, but we also live in modern times. It's a mixture of both. As for your sister, she will need a lot of time to heal and get the poison out of her system. I can't give you an exact time period, as we do not know how much she has inside of her, but I will promise you this; we will do absolutely everything within our knowledge to heal her. Let's go find your friends okay." I sigh softly and follow her, before I speak up "Zarina took pretty much every single weapon that those Hunters had. All the daggers, arrows, and whatever else they had that was coated in poison. I do not care about the time frame, I just need her healed and alive. she's the last family that I have. How much do you know of what has been going on between the supernatural and human worlds?" Akita and I had continued to walk and move further away from the cave and deeper through the reservation. She finally spoke after a handful of moments pass by "I've been keeping tabs on what has been going on, but I know nothing more. Please come to my house for some rest and food, and if you wouldn't mind, could you tell me everything?" I smiled, but it didn't reach my eyes and agreed to go home with her and tell her everything that I knew and experienced.
