Arielle's POV
"The main ballroom needs one more servant!" Syla— she is gamma, I dislike her. She is annoying and bossy. But my mom somehow liking her and always praising her and comparing her to me. That was sickening.
She kept shouted in front of the kitchen door, her loud scream shattering my reverie. I turned to her. The chubby girl, about my age, looked chaotic and troubled, her left hand was a tray of drinks, and her right carried a small tray of snacks for the guests. I turned my back instantly, and pretended not to hear Syla's and act deaf.
Mom looked at me with a commanding look.
"Are you going to stand still even if you see Syla struggling like that?" I gazed back at my mother like a foolish girl who didn't know what a servant should do in her master's house.
"You think I brought you here just to sit back and watch me work?" Mom glared at me angrily.
"But, Mom..." I replied lazily.
Actually I just want to spend the day on my bed but my mom dragged me here, and asked me to help her on the kitchen palace as today she said there will be big meeting between alpha Edward and the leader of Silver Fangs pack. I heard that now their teritory often got attack from the rogues. And they suspected that the Rogues' attacks were not random attacks like they were used to, but attacks carried out by trained and organized Rogues.
At least that's what I stole to hear when I passed by the meeting room. I was actually looking for Liam's whereabouts, but I didn't see him in there, and I could not find him anywhere too.
"Hurry up! Help Syla!" My mother spoke in a high, commanding tone, and I knew that if I opened my mouth one more time, then my mother would start nagging endlessly.
"Go and help Syla with this!" She insisted, shoving the tray of drinks into my arms, which nearly crushed my fingers, but I managed not to drop them.
"And please make sure everything goes perfectly, okay?" I nodded and left the kitchen, Syla's shouting echoing behind me. She approached me, but I deliberately kept ignored her.
"Arielle, why are you looking so gloomy? Are you on your period?" Syla asked, pretending to care, but I know she didn't.
"No," I replied casually.
"Don't lie. You look a mess. You must be heartbroken, huh? Because our favorite handsome alpha prince has found his mate?"
"Don't spread fake news, Syla!" I said in a hoarse voice due to the explosion of emotions in my chest.
"I'm not gossiping. Just ask Henry," Syla roared. Henry is Liam's future Beta.
"Arielle, i am serious..." She try to convice me, but again I act deaf and muted rather than talking to her.
Syla is a year younger than me, and I've never liked her. She's a bit of a gossip, and annoying. Another thing that makes me dislike her is that she never gets angry when people belittle and demean her.
That makes the dignity of servants like myself even lower.
"Why are you acting like that when there's no reason to be jealous?"
Syla put down her tray, "Are you secretly in love with Alpha Liam and want to be his future Luna, huh? Don't daydreaming Arielle..." Syla chuckled while pointed her index finger at my face in a mocking tone.
I felt like someone punched me in the gut, making me lose my balance and stumble backward onto the ground while holding the tray.
"Hmmm, you know very well that we servants are strictly forbidden to have feelings for Alpha Liam, so there's no way I could break that rule. Stop make things up and spread fake news, Syla." I mumbled in a weak voice after catching myself from falling on the ground and sitting up, trying to compose myself again.
"Don't play innocent, Arielle. I know who you meet every night at the lake behind the palace..." Syla whispered, instantly making me break out in a cold sweat.
"You must be making up a story. You'd better shut your mouth, or I'll-"
I snapped at her, but she spat, "I have an evidence that could get you and your nagging mother banished or vanished out of this pack for breaking the rules.." she hissed, just like the snakes.
I stood up, grabbed my tray, and ran out of the ballroom. I heard her say something like, "I know the damn truth!"
But I ignored her and ran out of the ballroom until I reached the corridor leading to the exit. I sat against the wall and gasp. A sense of worry and fear ran through me.
***
How did Syla find out about me and Liam?
"Arielle!" A loud voice unnerves me. It was my mom's voice.
"What are you doing here? The kitchen is in chaos, and you're hiding here. Come with me. We have a ton of work to do!"
"Mom, I-" Before I could explain, my mother had dragged me roughly. Her face was red, as if she was holding back anger. I pushed myself up and followed her into the kitchen.
"Bring this to the ballroom!" she ordered.
"O-okay, Mom.." I trembled.
"Now!" She shouted at me. I don't know why my mom act so rough to me today. But I am not going to asking her.
I carried a tray full of plates filled with my mom's sticky toffee pudding. The dance party had already started when i reached there. Everyone was dancing with their mate and seemed to be having a great time.
In the middle of the dance floor, my eyes caught up Liam dancing with someone i did not recognize but she was gorgeous, the most hurt part was they look so perfectly together.
Liam firm hand was wrapped around the girl's hip, while the other hand tightly grasped the girl's fingers. They looked so harmonious and seemed to be lost in each other. I felt the heat in my heart, like something was raging inside my body. My hands shook so much that the plates on the tray clinked together.
"What are you doing? Why are you still standing here? Hurry up and put those desserts on the guests' table!" Syla growled and pushed me so violently that I lost my balance and wobbled.
I fell along with dozens of desserts on the tray I was holding up. The sound of my scream as I fell and the broken plates of sticky toffee pudding clattered on the floor.
Everyone in the room turned to me, including Liam and his girl. Some of them were laughing, some were whispering to each other. But the most horrifying expression came from Liam.
He walked straight up to me and dragged me out of the ballroom.
"Did you do this on purpose, Arielle?" he shouted.
"Liam, I-I am so sorry. I did not do it on purpose."
"Liam stop it!" Luna Jacinta, Liam's mother came towards us.
"Relax, Liam, you don't need to scold her like that," Luna Jacinta pulled him away from me.
"Mom, this Omega servant needs to be taught a lesson!" Liam growled.
"Look, Mom, what she had done..." Liam pointed out that the plates and desserts I dropped, were now scattered on the rug.
"I am so sorry, Luna Jacinta. I really didn't mean it." I pleaded with tears on my cheeks.
"What's going on, honey..." The girl who was dancing with Liam came over. She leaned her head on Liam's shoulder, looking at me with a condescending gaze.
"This stupid servant, has ruined your favorite dessert. I'm sorry, for her carelessness."
"It doesnt matter, Liam. Calm down." She caress Liam's chest, and put on fake smile. I know she must be happy to see how Liam treat someone who had ruined her favourite dessert.
"Don't worry about that, sweetheart."
"Our servant can make it for you again," Luna Jacinta's hand caressed the girl.
"No, but thank you, Luna. I don't want to trouble you...."
"Not at all, Natalie." Luna Jacinta replied.
"Alright, Omega servant." Liam suddenly spoke out.
"I forgive you this time, but next time if you make a mess with my future Luna, again. I won't hesitate to punish you, do you hear me?" Liam whispered to me threateningly, I raised my eyes to him who was now towering before me with anger and disappointment.
"Do you f*****g understand, servant?" he repeated clenching his jaw.
I nodded, forcefully in stupefaction.
He looked back at his future Luna.
"Sorry for the disturbance, Natalie," Liam bowed slightly and kissed the back of her hand.
Then guided his girlfriend back to the table where they were sitting. I couldn't do anything but swallow my bitterness as I saw her clung lovingly to Liam's burly arm, and Liam, my secret boyfriend Alpha, kissed Natalie's forehead affectionately. Precisely the same as when he kissed me, the feeling of witnessing them made me want to die. This sentiment is agonizing me.
