This was the type of property you only see in fairy tales or movies.
Grass so green that you would think you were on a golf course in Ireland.
Trees and perfectly trimmed shrubs lined both sides of the cobble stone driveway.
After driving for what felt like at least five minutes, my eyes fell upon the house. If you could even call it a house.
It was the largest house I had ever seen, stone walls with a large wrap around deck and huge double door entry. On either side of the doorway stood brass sculptures, otherworldly creatures that looked half man, half lion.
It was as big as a castle. Everything about this property screamed royalty.
Josh pulled up the car in front of the door, within seconds four people showed up out of nowhere and all our doors were opened for us.
We all climbed out of the car and the man that opened the driver's door hopped into Josh's car and drove it away. I watched the car head around the side of the house and disappear.
When I looked forward again Josh, Zane and Jude were already on the doorstep.
I caught up to the others just as the door was opened and we were welcomed into a grand entrance hall.
The room we walked into was as large as my entire kitchen and living room at home combined. The ceiling had to be twelve feet high, if not higher. Hanging from the center of the room was the most elaborate chandelier I had ever seen, more amazing than any in movies that I had seen.
The decor of the room reminded me of a modern day Phantom of the Opera.
"Ms. Truman has asked me to show you to the dining hall." Said a slender well dressed man.
I could only assume this was a butler based on his demeanor.
"Right this way please." As he gestured though one of the many large doors in the room.
Josh, Zane, Jude and I followed the man and I found myself in a large room with a huge table, it had to be able to seat at least thirty people.
We took our seats at the far end, their were four place settings already waiting for us.
"Ms. Truman only indicated there would be three coming today, I shall be right back with another setting for you madame." As he nodded at me and left the room.
I had sat beside Jude and elbowed him in the ribs. "Jess doesn't know I am here right now?" I said annoyed.
"I dunno." Jude said nonchalantly, shrugging. "I guess Zane didn't tell her."
My anxiety was back.
Within minutes I had a full place setting in front of me with more forks and spoons than I knew what to do with. The cutlery was so shiny you could see yourself in it, not one water spot from a dishwasher could be seen.
Jess arrived just as lunch was served. All three of the boys stood up when she walked in the room. So I followed suit.
Lunches were placed in front of us. Josh, Zane and Jude got what seemed to be regular burgers and fries with gravy. Upon closer inspection I noticed that these burgers had all sorts of toppings on them, they looked delicious and made me realize just how hungry I was.
Jess and I were both served a huge salad with strawberries, feta cheese, and shrimp in it. With a nice light vinegarette dressing.
From the second my plate was put in front of me I realized Jess had only just noticed my presence. As soon as the butler door closed to the kitchen Jess was raging mad.
"What the hell is the ugly girl doing in my house?" Jess asked to no one in particular.
"I... uh... didn't know we were coming here." I said, almost to quickly.
"Which one of you idiots invited her into my house!" Jess said, her voice was holding steady but I could tell she was on the verge of practicing some knife throwing. I contemplated hiding under the table.
Josh looked sheepish. Zane and Jude kept sneaking glances at each other.
"I said which one!?" Jess shouted, smashing her closed fists on the table on either side of her plate.
Zane spoke up. "She's here with me, I invited her. She was supposed to be my lunch date today, but plans changed when we had to come get you. Where is your car, or driver?" He asked.
Jess seemed slightly taken back by Zanes answer, but you could also see the glint in her eye when the topic was made to be about her again.
"Oh, daddy is getting me a new car." Jess said, matter of factly. As if there was no other possible reason she wouldn't have a vehicle. "I was tired of the red one."
"Didn't you just get that car for a grade 10 grad present!?" Jude asked, mouth full of food.
Jess looked at him disgusted, nose upturned. "Well yeah, but I wanted a blue one. Then Joshy-poo and I can match!" Jess looked from Josh to Zane.
Was she trying to make Zane jealous? Also, 'Joshy-poo', gag. What a horribly horrible pet name.
I ate my food in silence, I didn't want to risk making the dragon lady rear her ugly head again, I wasn't up to being burnt.
After lunch was done we went outside and all got into Josh's car to head back to school for our afternoon classes.
This time I ended up in the rear middle between Zane and Jude, Princess Jess had staked claim to the front passenger seat.
"Your going to need to get your car detailed now Joshy-poo, being that you have the ugly girls stale ass in the back seat. Hopefully it doesn't need to be replaced!" Jess said, smirking.
Josh just grunted in agreement.
For two people in a relationship they sure didn't seem to talk to each other much. Jess just kinda talked at him instead.
Zane broke the ice in the backseat. "So, I would really like to take you out somewhere new girl, Liese is it?"
I hesitated, 'what should I say?' I asked myself.
