Thunder roared outside the mansion as the woman screamed in agony. As she screamed, the thunder roared louder with her. The lightning centered itself around the house the woman was in. Doctors and nurses ran in and out of the room with buckets of water and towels for the woman who lay in the center of the bed. She grabbed the sheet thinking it would relieve the pain she was in. The lights flickered, the walls shook and pictures bungee jumped off their hangers. Her husband paced around the room, anxiety high. The worry is evident in his features. The woman reached out to him, so he could take her hand. He quickly ran to her, taking her hand into his. He wiped the access hair off her face with his right hand, taking her sweat with it. He whispered encouraging words to her. He told her how much he loved her and to keep pushing. After hours of pushing through the extreme pain she was in, their ears were graced with a beautiful cry. The man and woman locked eyes, letting a smile grace their lips. “It’s a baby girl, my lord”, the doctor said, handing the man his daughter. The man took the baby in his arms, rocking her from side to side. This was the happiest moment of his life. “Let me see her,” said a raspy voice, the woman was weak from her long hours of labor. The man kept rocking his baby girl in his arms while walking to his wife. He laid their daughter in her arms. When the baby touched her arms, the baby opened her eyes. She had the most beautiful hazel-green eyes the woman had ever seen. She smiled at her baby, letting her salted tears run down her face. In the distance, they heard someone erupt in a blood-curdling scream. The man looks at the door, filling with dread. “We knew this day was coming. You have to take her.” she said to her husband “No! No. We can take him! He will not have my baby girl!”, he commanded “He will if you do not take her!”, the woman demanded back. He looked down defeated. “You are so beautiful. You will be so gifted. The most powerful Kahili to ever live, my daughter. Although I will not see you grow, I will always be with you.” Her husband stood in silence as tears fell from his face. The woman kissed her daughter for the first and final time. Handing her daughter back to her husband. “You have to go”, she cried. The man took their baby and kissed his wife with so much passion, touching his forehead to hers and whispered, “I love you” Then he disappeared into a cloud of black smoke. She slides out of the bed, stumbling her way to the bathroom. She grabbed the knife hidden under the sink and stared at it. Another agonizing scream was heard down the hall. He was getting closer. With tears in her eyes, the woman said, “I, Renee Macias, give you Chi’sa Macias my power. May you use it to guide you and lead you toward the right path. Upon my death may my spirit live on with you as you become who you truly are.” With her final words, she slits both her wrist all the way up to the center of her arms. She slowly lays back on the floor, as she slowly disappears into little forms of light “Jacob... I love you... Protect our Chi’sa” As she disappeared fully, a man entered the bathroom where she was… MEANWHILE… ‘Chi’sa’, Jacob heard in a whisper but before he could question it. He felt an excruciating pain in his heart. He knew what his beloved had done. He felt destroyed, empty. Looking down at his daughter he knew what that whisper was. It was the name his beloved had given their daughter. As he looked at his sleeping child he knew what he had to do. He walked towards the town, quietly so he would not be detected. He came up towards the building and laid his precious daughter on their doorstep. “My beautiful Chi’sa, your mother has left us. And, I now must do what needs to be done. I can not protect you as I promised, please… forgive me,” he cried, giving his daughter his first and last kiss before he banged on the door five times and quickly ran away. He hid in an alley nearby as he watched a woman open the door looking around until she looked down and saw his daughter. She quickly picked her up, looking around once more before she went back inside and closed the door. The man was broken beyond compare but for what he had to do, he had to let his daughter go so she would be safe from harm. He closed his eyes and thought “We will be together again, my Chi’sa. I promise”
