CHAPTER 9

VALKYRIE KINGDOM Gunner sat on the steps outside of Sigrun’s house. Since the events that had taken place at the palace he hasn’t come across Kara’s friend and to him it felt like she was avoiding him. The entire palace felt out of place just like every corner of the Kingdom. Gunner felt like he was drowning because he couldn’t believe that Kara would hide such a big part of herself from him after all they had been through together. It was not a secret that he would walk around the city without any guards, he knew that he didn’t really matter because his brother was the crowned prince, and he was just a prince. His depression was reaching new levels and only a word with Sigrun would ease his aching heart. On queue Sigrun landed on the yard and spotted the prince on her steps, she paused for a small second as their eyes locked and she fell on one knee with her head bowed in respect. Gunner walked towards her and sighed and cleared his throat, Sigrun still on the ground, lifted her head to look at the prince. ‘Stand up Sigrun.’ Gunner said. ‘Thank you, your Highness.’ Sigrun said as she stood up from the ground and stared at Gunner waiting for him to state the purpose of his visit to her house. ‘You must be wondering what I am doing here since we never really interacted without Kara being around.’ Gunner said looking at her for a reaction and all she did was keep a straight face. ‘That is true your Highness.’ Sigrun replied. ‘I feel a little uncomfortable just call me Gunner.’ ‘Forgive me but it would make me uncomfortable calling you by your name only’. Sigrun said looking more uneasy. ‘Fine, if that’s what you want. I wanted to know if you knew that Kara was half breed before the day, we all found out.’ Gunner questioned her. Sigrun looked at Gunner for a while unsure of what to say and uncertain if he actually had Kara’s best interests at heart. ‘No, I did not know that she was a half breed until that very day as all of you.’ ‘Are you absolutely sure about what you are saying?’ Gunner pushed further feeling disappointed at her answer. ‘I would never lie to you, your Highness.’ Sigrun said. ‘Why did you agree to chase after your friend? If you had caught up with her, would you have brought her back here if you captured her?’  Sigrun knew that the conversation was taking a quick turn for the worst, and she needed to end it quickly. should choose myself and my Kingdom. Does that answer your question your Highness?’ Sigrun said getting impatient but choosing to hide it. ‘Do you mean to tell me that if there was a way to safe Kara, you wouldn’t help me?’ Gunner said stepping closer to her. ‘My Kingdom comes first your Highness.’ Sigrun said sticking with her words but breaking inside because she knew that if she could save Kara but the only person who had that power is Kara herself. She was the powerful one, what could she do to save her friend? ‘Understood.’ Gunner said angrily and started to walk past Sigrun, he stopped for a small second and turned his head a little and spoke, ‘Now I know who is on Kara’s side and who is not.’ Gunner continued to walk until he was out of her yard, Sigrun refused to turn around because she feared that she might have just made an enemy of someone who cared and could have helped find or try and rescue Kara if possible. Sigrun dropped to the ground, bringing her wings closer to her body to give her comfort because she knew that this war was far from over and it has just begun, and she felt she was on the wrong side but had no choice but to stay. While Sigrun conflicted, Hilder, Kara’s cousin was drowning in guilt. All she thought about was how she feared her own cousin when she discovered who she was and now she isn’t here anymore. Hildr had taken a break from the guard and has been home ever since Kara’s grand escape. Hilder sat outside with her eyes closed as she tried to absorb the sun’s ray and forget about the world. ‘How long do you think you can keep this up?’ Pruor asked his daughter. Hilder opened her eyes because her father was now blocking the sunlight. ‘Hey dad.’ Hilder said as she sat up to look up at her dad. ‘I asked you a question Hilder, you can’t keep acting like the world has stopped because Kara isn’t here. Knowing Kara, I’m sure she wouldn’t want you sulking like this’. Pruor stated clammily but sternly. ‘I know dad but it’s just hard not having her around and I feel worse because in the few hours I had with her I made her feel alienated, that’s not something a sister should have done.’ Hilder sighed as her guilt surfaced once more. ‘I am sure that Kara understood where you were coming from, she was always the reasonable one between you two.’ Pruor sighed as he thought of Kara and whether she was doing alright wherever she was. Knowing his niece, she was probably doing fine. ‘I hope you are right dad because I don’t know how I will continue to live with myself if she is hurt somewhere.’ Hilder slowly lays back down and closed her eyes as she heard her father’s footsteps retreat from where she was. Brynhildr was upset with absolutely upset with everything and everyone since the drama with Kara. He didn’t like half breeds but for Kara he would have been willing to make an exception, after all she was the woman, he wanted to marry and nothing or no one could have convinced him otherwise. Brynhildr had made sure to split up Kara and Gunner when he had discovered they were in a relationship, hopping she would love him instance she juts hated him. ‘Brynhildr.’ Queen Sanngrior called her son as she walked into his office, she sent her lady in waiting away before she stepped in. Brynhildr looked at his mother already annoyed with her presence, ‘yes, how may I help you?’ ‘Show some respect I am your mother and your Queen, or have you forgotten?’ Queen Sanngrior asked. ‘It’s hard to forget when all you do is remind everyone that you are the Queen in case the forget.’ Brynhildr spoke carelessly towards his mother. She looked at him shocked and angrily because of his rudeness. ‘Do you think you can speak to me like this because you are the crown prince? I can always change that Bryn.’ ‘I would love to see you try mother, you are chasing after someone very dear to me and I don’t like it at all.’ Brynhildr expressed angrily. ‘She is a half breed we do not accept such in our kingdom. The Valkyrie are supposed to be pure blood and she is tainted with magic!’ Queen Sanngrior exclaimed. ‘I could care less about that mother.’ Brynhildr pushed his mother harder. ‘You have never liked impure bloods, what has changed?’ She asked only to receive a huff as Brynhildr stood in his full length. ‘I want her, and I must have her, if I can’t do so now, I will take your kingdom and have her to myself not even your son Gunner can stop me.’ Brynhildr said as he looked his mother dead in the eyes as she said this. ‘You would kill your own mother for a woman?’ Queen Sanngrior said shocked at the monster she had created, not to fight her but to fight for her. ‘She isn’t just any woman, she is Kara. Get that through your head.’ With those final words Brynhildr walked out of his office leaving his mother in complete shock.   Three men long for Kara, young love, failed love, love and hate those blooms in their hearts. Kara has manged to ignite fires that can’t be put out easily, how can she fight these fatal attractions?
