Mila spent the rest of the day unpacking her stuff and organizing her new walk-in closet. When she was finally done, it was around ten o'clock. She sighed feeling tired, but she decided to go to the kitchen to make herself tea and to look for some snacks.
The house was so quiet, so she quickly finished in the kitchen and went back to her room. She took one of the books and took a seat in the cozy armchair in the corner of the room, placing her tea and snack on the small table next to it. She enjoyed the book for the next two hours and when she felt sleepy she left the book and went to bed.
That night she slept all night and she didn't dream about anything and she felt great when she woke up the next morning. The sun's rays that were peeking through the big window and balcony doors woke her up, caressing her face gently. When she went downstairs to the kitchen, it was seven o'clock in the morning and Maria was already there.
"Good morning, Maria."
She looked at her and smiled, pouring coffee into two mugs on the kitchen counter.
"Good morning, Mila. I made us coffee. Breakfast is ready as well. Would you like us to have breakfast here or in the garden."
She was thrilled that there was a garden and that she could use it and the fact that it was spring made it feel even better.
"Garden sounds great to me. Let me help you with the dishes."
She helped Maria and when they finally took a seat in the garden she looked around, mesmerized by the beauty and peace of that place. The garden was full of beautiful flowers with a big table and many chairs in one corner and in the middle of it was a big pool.
"You can use the pool as well when we are alone."
Mila gave a wide smile to Maria and took a sip of her coffee.
"I already love it all and I can't wait to start working."
After breakfast, Maria took her to her small office that was located next to the big one they were at the day before.
"This is my office. Well, it is ours now. I am going to order one more laptop and one more desk with a cozy chair."
Mila looked around and smiled at Maria, nodding.
"I always start my work day by checking if there is anything missing in the kitchen from groceries so that I can order them early in the morning. I have my planner where I write down everything that needs to be done."
Maria opened one of the drawers on the desk and took a planner for Mila as well and handed it to her.
"Here is one for you. The rest of my tasks I will be showing you as we go through the day."
Mila took the planner and smiled at Maria.
"I am ready whenever you are."
Maria stood up and showed her to follow her. The first stop was the kitchen and then they went to the garden to check on the flowers, and ordered a few more species of roses. Mila always loved to take care of the house's needs, so she already loved her work. The day went by quickly and when they were done it was around five o'clock.
"I am going to rest a bit before dinner. I will see you at six o'clock."
Maria disappeared in the long hallway and she headed to the garden and took a seat on one of the cozy chairs. It was still warm and sunny, so she leaned back and closed her eyes smiling, satisfied with how the thing started going. This is something she could never imagine would happen to her after her family died so tragically. She could clearly remember that day she wanted to take her life away, but somewhere deep inside her she knew that was not something they would want her to do. She somehow managed to get herself out of the depression a few weeks later, and she decided to look for a job on the other side of the world.
She always loved Italy, so she decided to try it there. It was tougher than she thought, but Angela did it and she was immensely grateful to her for what she did. She knew exactly how much this did for her. She sighed, satisfied with the happenings of the past few days. The sun was almost gone, so she got up from the chair and headed to her room to change her clothes before dinner. When she walked into the kitchen, Maria was already there and their dinner was served on the kitchen table. She approached the kitchen and took two glasses for them.
"Is there anything else I can help you with, Maria?"
She showed her with her hand to take a seat.
"Everything is done, enjoy, your work is done for today."
Mila smiled and waited for her to take a seat and then they started eating. The dinner was delicious and Mila praised the cooks. "They have worked for Luca over ten years now, they are the best."
Maria kept telling her about the house and the city but she never mentioned anyone else from the house. Mila had a feeling that no one actually lives there.
She was helping Maria with the dishes when she decided to ask her more about Luca.
"Maria, can I ask you something?"
She nodded while whipping the kitchen counter. They were done, so she turned around to her holding a glass of milk ready to go to bed.
"When will I meet Mr Luca?"
Maria sighed heavily but she smiled at her, taking her hand in hers.
"You are young, beautiful, smart and you seem innocent, so please, for your own good don't insist on that. Stay away from Luca as much as possible."
She stared at her, not knowing what to say about that, so she just nodded and followed Maria with her gaze while she left the kitchen, leaving her alone with her thoughts.
She moved slowly and went to her room. She took her book and took a seat in the armchair but her thoughts kept returning to what Maria said to her. After almost an hour of trying to read, she gave up and went to bed. That night Mila couldn't sleep long in the night thinking about Maria's words and her decision to come here really that good. She sighed heavily and closed her eyes, surrendering to the tiredness that finally got her,
