Carl had assumed that James Walker’s widow still lived in the palatial house in the eastern suburbs that she’d shared with her husband, and was surprised when he discovered that she was now living in one of the less affluent areas of Bayside. He didn’t know what to expect as they drove to Bayside to interview her and her son, as areas of the suburb were undergoing what town planners referred to as urban renewal, and many of the older dwellings had been demolished and replaced with modern townhouses and condominiums. When Lisa stopped the car in front of the address she had given him, he realised that the woman he’d thought of as a rich widow was living in a dated, semi-detached townhouse in a Bayside backstreet.
