Welcome to Willbourne.
Darla..
My life was ruined!.. Everything I’ve ever worked for gone all because of one stupid accident. I missed an entire year of school because I was hospitalized and I was unable to graduate with my mates. I couldn’t believe this was happening to me.. If only I didn’t try to run out of the taxi that night, if only I just sat still in the car that night none of this would have happened..
I wouldn’t currently be on my way to Nashville to start afresh and repeat my senior year.. My thoughts were cut short by the soft snores of my younger brother who wouldn’t stop drooling on me.
I kicked him off me, rolling my eyes in anger as I stared out of the window still pissed with the fact that we had to move all the way from New York to Nashville.. My parents didn’t even consult me first before taking such decisions.. You know I had a life back in New York, even if it was completely ruined it was still my life and I was used to the way of living..
The current change was just too much to take in.. How am I supposed to fit it? Nashville was completely different from New York.. That I could tell from the quiet town we were currently moving into.
“ Sweetie, we’re home” my mum said as she got out of the car..
“ This isn’t home, it’s.. never going to be home “ I muttered silently, picking up my crutches as I tried getting out of the car.
“ Need any help sweetie?” I heard my dad say as he tried getting out our luggage from the booth of the car.
“ No thanks” I said my voice stubborn as I tried getting out of the car falling flat on my face.
My brother’s laughter was excruciating as he mocked my current state. I groaned in pain as I felt my knees make cracking noises..
Ugh I think I sprained my knees.. just what I needed in this time of my life.
“ Darla are you okay, you’ve got to be careful “ my mum said in worry as she rushed towards me to help me. I noticed my dad look at us both with worry in his eyes as he took in my current state.
“ I’m fine mom.. seriously “ I answered as I positioned my arms properly on my crutches.
“ you’ve got to be careful darling, we don’t want another accident “ my dad scolded walking towards the porch with some of the luggage’s causing me to scoff in disbelief.
“ Like I’d want that too” I mumbled..
The new house was okay, a one storey flat with a nice backyard.. It was better than the apartment we stayed back in New York, But I still missed it because it was home. My home..
I got to see the city from my bedside window and it gave me a sense of calmness everytime.. Now what am I going to look at every night? Just shrubs and bushes..
Sigh..
I adjusted myself fully on my crutches when I noticed something move behind the bushes. I was the only one standing outside of the house, my family in probably trying to arrange our stuff. I walked towards the bush curious to know what was hiding back there, suddenly a white fluffy tail popped out..
Was it an animal? Probably a dog..
I dropped my crutches, going on my kneels moving closer to where the mystery creature hid.. I put my head inside the bush only to be met with the most prettiest blue eyes.. It was a white kitten, a really pretty and soft one..
Aww..
“ hey there, why are you here all alone?” I whispered softly with a smile on my face..
It had a collar.. does that mean it was lost?
The cat meowed in response licking his paws.. I gently removed the kitten from the bush as I sat on the grass admiring and petting her.. She was obviously a girl kitten.
“Whitney “ I said with a smile reading the name on her collar.. Such a pretty name for a pretty cat.
I wish I could keep her, but my dad’s allergic to cat fur.. As I was about dropping her I felt a large presence stand in front of me blocking the sun rays from reaching me.. I looked up from Whitney to see a tall handsome guy looking down at me his eyes immediately trailing to Whitney.
“That’s my cat “
I heard him say, his voice snapped me out of my daydreams about him.. He was good looking, with shaggy black hair that seemed to drop down to his eyes..His voice sounding like silk causing goosebumps to erupt on my skin.
Who was this guy? And what was he doing to me.
He bent low, our bodies not that far from each other and that gave me a much appreciated view of his beautiful face and piercing eyes.. His eyes were deep blue with specs of grey floating in them which looked amazing by the way.. I could clearly see his eye brow piercings and I didn’t realize when I let out the breath I was holding..
He redrew his eyes from me, a smile forming on his face as he patted Whitney as she meowed happily enjoying his touches..
“Are.. hmm.. “ I stuttered not finding the words to say, his smile giving me the butterflies..
“ Hey” He said under his breath giving me a glance before going back to patting Whitney..
“ Is she yours?” I asked finally finding my voice as I looked at him.
“ Yeah, I’m sorry she was hiding in your bushes. She just really loves playing hide and seek” he answered..
“ oh I see.. well you can have her back “
“Thanks “ he said collecting Whitney from me as he stood up..walking away before I could get to ask him of his name..
I hope I see him again..
It’s been a week since we moved to Nashville, I was starting school tomorrow and I was the least excited about it. I’ve been let off my crutches since my bones are fully healed now.. Living in Nashville wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t exactly the best.. The days were longer and it was pretty quiet. All the time.
Mum and Dad tried to make everything look welcoming by getting the house equipped with WiFi and other electronic gadgets but it still wasn’t any help. I was still mad at them for taking this decision without consulting me first. But it’s not like it’s their fault, they didn’t force me to go to that party.. Or get the hell out of the taxi fully drunk.
“Darla, aren’t you coming down for lunch?.. Your dad’s making Mac and cheese . Your favorite “ My mum said from outside of the door..
I sighed as I got out of the bed, I can’t say no to my dad’s Mac and cheese..He’s pretty good at it. I should stop loathing though, this is my life now. My parents did what they thought was best I just have to suck it up and get used to it..
“I’ll be right down mum” I answered..
The smell of Mac and cheese hit me by the time I entered the kitchen. Dale, my younger brother was already stuffing his face. He was just 12, dad and mum had him really late...
“Pig” I insulted with the roll of my eyes.. He heard as he blew raspberries straight at me..
“ You kids better not start with this, dale behave!” My dad scolded causing me to smirk in victory, dale scowling in anger.
I took my seat seating on one of the dining chairs as my was served my food..
“ So Darla, how excited are you for your senior year?” My dad asked trying to engage in small talk..
“I don’t know dad.. I mean it’s just school “ I answered with a shrug..
“Oh cmon Darla, where’s your school spirit? It’s senior year!” My dad said his voice filled with enthusiasm
“Yeah.. which means more school work” I answered with a groan causing him to chuckle at me
“You my dear seriously need to stop being stuck up and have fun” My dad advised giving dale another serving of Mac and cheese
“I think I’ll pass on that offer.. we don’t need another accident happening “ I said sarcastically
“Darla, you’ve got to stop beating yourself up for that.. and move on. Yeah you made a mistake but you’ve learned.. I’m sure you’ll be more responsible next time “
“ Dad can we not to talk about it “ I muttered sadly..
“ Alright baby.. I’ll be in my room if you need me” he said giving me a kiss on my forehead as he left the kitchen.
