prologue
"Seriously? Engineering? Are you striving to win the first Dullard Woman to become an engineer? Are you trying to be a maiden forever without getting married?" Samuel bellowed angrily at his 21 years old middle daughter.
"Father, I've always wanted to work in one of your automobile shops.. this is my dream, please don't take it away from me" Miranda pleaded.
"It doesn't matter because you're never going to draw the De Costa family through the mud so get your head in the game and go back to college because you were sent to actually get a buisness certificate not this"Samuel threw the file away.
Miranda who had been holding her anger in and following her sister's!! advice lost her cool picking the certificate.
" Go back to college? Is it that simple to you? Waste another five years of my life getting another certificate when I already have what I need to survive? Do you even know what your kids want? You forced James to Marry Edna who he doesn't even like and got Katharina engaged to the crown prince even before she could tell her name ! Who are you getting sold off again? Me? Oh daddy dearest.. you should know I would never go down a fight"Miranda glared at her father who was stunned from the outburst.
The both of them glared at each other waiting for one to back down. April De Costa stepped between them.
" If I had learnt anything from both of you is that you're so much alike and that's why you never get along, Dear... Miranda already graduated and you could get her to be your supervisor at the shop.. she doesn't have to touch a thing"April shrugged.
Samuel laughed and looked at her wife.
" Miranda Vera De Costa would not touch anything? Now that is funny coming from you who supposedly knows us.. she will get under the car the second she step her feet into the workshop.. she's been doing that since she was fourteen until she was banned"Samuel looked at his wife shaking his head.
" Or.. I could go back to college if you want"Miranda smiled sitting down.
" That's a creepy smile"April noticed.
" What's the deal? "Samuel sat down.
"I'll go to a buisness school and get a certificate, it's three years of my life but I'll not be getting the degree here" Miranda smiled.
"Oh do tell" Samuel said.
"I'll leave Dullard, I'll get a degree and come back but.. I'll be living there alone, without your body guards or Judith.. without the servants.. without mother, Just me" Miranda explained.
"That's stupid and deeply unsettling? You? At A strange country.. alone? No.. you are troublesome.. you might get into the tabloid or paparazzi" Samuel shook his head standing up.
"Dad, you know what thing I hate the most is the press, I'll stay away from the media.. if I ever appear on paper, I'll come home immediately and settle for any man you wish to marry me off to" Miranda suggested.
"What's to guarantee me that you'll surely come home if you get caught by the press?" Samuel asked.
" Of course, I'll sign a contract.. you could sue me and the Americans will deport me"Miranda answered.
" You thought this through.. haven't you? "April asked.
" Mother, If there's one thing I inherited from you apart from being petite and red haired. It's your quick wits and brains"Miranda smiled.
" Fine... But I'll keep a tab on you.. nobody would even know you're being watched, just for your safety and wellbeing "Samuel said.
" Of course.. I'm going to prepare"Mirianda smiled walking out of the large office. Her legs almost turning into jelly. Freedom.
She could smell it. It was almost near.
She was going to get all she needed and leave Dullard. Never to come back. At least not in a decade.
