Chapter 1: A secret makes us human      "I hate her."  Akane grabbed her dark purple bag from the backseat of the car and slammed the door shut. The loud noise echoed in the empty parking lot. "I can't believe my father actually got married to her mother. Of all people!"       The young accounting major brought her steaming hot coffee to her lips as she walked side by side with her best friend.  Her long, dark hair was neatly pulled back in a ponytail with stray strands framing her rounded face nicely. A faded blush still lingering on her nose as she took a sip of the drink.  The warm liquid did wonders for her body.  Especially after the three-hour study session where she just got a fifteen-minute break from.  Her sunken eyes were darkened from the late nights of studying and her neck ached.          Was this really the life of a university student?      Her lovely pity party was interrupted as Cyan spoke up.  Cyan was kind and level-headed which was a perfect fit for her fireball personality. His dark hair was twisted in locks with a couple of silver cuffs hooked on each strand.  His major was the same as her,  accounting, which he would consider as the marriage of mathematics and business.  Such a pleasure to study.  However, he seemed to be handling it much better than expected.  Cyan glanced at Akane and grinned.      "But they seem like they really love each other."  Cyan's voice was calm even though the statement was meant to be a teasing one, a stark contrast to Akane who shot him a disgusted look.     "Love? as if that accounts for anything. If Love really existed then I am pretty sure my life would have been very different."     Cyan shook his head, "Mine too..besides, your new stepsister, I mean, oneesan, doesn't seem too bad."      "Are you kidding?"  Akane rolled her eyes, "Were you not there at the study session we just had? She made us do two hours of work without taking a break." Akane paused as they began to descend the staircase. "And last night at 2 am she had a meltdown because she missed an A grade by 1%, I swear she would  kill someone for that 'A' grade."       Cyan shrugged as he pushed the door open and allowed Akane to enter the hallway first.  They walked down the empty hallway as Akane continued to vent about her new 'psycho' step sister. Thankfully the university was near empty by now due to the late hour.       "Guess becoming siblings with the top student in our year is harder than expected."  Cyan chuckled.  He tried to lighten the mood but Akane did not seem to be falling for his charm today.       "Yeah, It's like she has a stick up her ass." Akane and Cyan walked towards the library only to run into another unexpected person. "Speaking of someone with a stick up their ass..."      "Liam." Cyan stopped suddenly. "Did you all start studying already?"          "Uh -" The tall blonde man scratched the back of his head. He glanced back quickly only to shake his head, "I'm not sure, I just got here but the door was locked."      "Locked?" Akane asked. She walked past Liam and reached for the doorknob. She jiggled the handle but it was to no avail.  "Don't tell me this b***h locked it again."      "Should we go get the keys?" Cyan asked.      "Would the office still be opened at this time?" Liam asked.  He pushed his hands in the pockets of his baseball jacket. His blue eyes focused on Akane as she knocked on the door.       "Guess we should."  Akane turned around only to make eye contact with Liam. "Are you okay?" The ace baseball player was not acting like himself right now.  He was usually cheery and confident, however, right now his chiselled features cast a rather paranoid look.  He glanced over his shoulder once more before speaking up.      "Yeah - uh did you guys see any lecturers on your way here?"  Liam asked.      Akane pursed her lips as she thought about it. From her walk with Cyan from the parking lot to the study room, she had not seen another soul.  She shook her head and Cyan followed.     "You're not - " Cyan paused as he stepped towards Liam,  the taller jock stumbled, his back hitting the wall behind them. "Doing drugs are you?"    It was known between the pair that Liam suffered from a small drug addiction problem - but was that the extent of it? Maybe.      Liam's lips parted only to be interrupted once more.      "Well well, what do we have here?" Kiian walked down the staircase followed by Amy. "I didn't know you two were making a BL for Akane." Kiian was a management major, his black hair pinned back by several bobby pins and his dark eyes were locked on the two men before him.      Akane rolled her eyes at the comment and pointed to the door.      "It's locked."  She said.      "Really? I was the last one to leave and it was open -" Amy said as she gently shook her slushy, "maybe we should go get the keys."       "Alright, let's go," Akane said as she walked past the guys and hooked her arm with Amy.  The dark-skinned girl grinned and took a sip of her drink.     "I'm coming too."  Liam jumped at the opportunity to leave the hallway.  Akane gestured for him to follow leaving Kiian and Cyan alone in the hallway.      Almost ten minutes later the trio returned to find Kiian Asian-squatting on the floor next to Cyan and Violet.  Violet had her hoodie covering her hair as she stared blankly at the locked door.       "When did you get here?" Akane asked her stepsister.       "About three minutes ago," Violet's voice was softer than the rest of the students - that was until she was screeching like a banshee at 2 am. "Why?"     "N..No reason,"  Akane said as she walked towards the door and unlocked it.  She pushed the door open and was greeted with darkness. "Why did turn off the lights too?"      "Like I said I didn't- "     Amy's voice was cut as light flooded the room.  The scene before them was something straight out of a gore movie.  Blood coated the table and dripped down to stain the carpeted floors.  On the table laid a corpse with a knife stabbed right through their chest.  A blood-curling scream left the students' lips as they finally realise what they were in the presence of.      Akane reached forward and blocked everyone else from entering the room.       "Look!" Cyan shouted as he pointed to the wall.      Akane turned around and saw a phrase painted on the wall with what she assumed was blood.     "I know your secrets." She repeated the phrase before pushing everyone out of the room and closing the door.  Her back pressed against the door as she slid down to the floor. Was that message directed to her?  Did the person who did this know her secrets? Was that dead body real? What was going on?
