Ava POV
The city streets were active with people going about their day, the huge buildings were sleek, and modern with glass, and a steel facade. Blackthorn’s, lively bakery’s, and coffee shops only added bliss to the atmosphere.
Blackthorn Hollow was definitely a beautiful city, and it attracted the wealthiest people, but the crime rate was ridiculous - crime was like a norm in Blackthorn, and people were dying everyday.
As it is, there’s already a serial killer on the loose, and he is yet to be apprehended. People in the city have given him a nickname, they call him the Beast - The weird thing about the murders is the way the bodies were found.
All his victims were found completely drained of blood, and a single red-rose was placed on every victim’s chest. It’s scary knowing that there’s a literal psychopath, serial killer that’s walking around freely. The cops have made no progress in finding the notorious Beast.
A thousand years ago, vampires walked amongst us, and we lived happily with them as equals. However the Vampire Lord was a power hungry beast, he enslaved the humans, and killed without reason. He overtook territory, and destroyed everything the humans built.
The humans were starved, and most were homeless, they grew tired of the Vampire Lord’s greed. So they waged war against the vampires, and killed them during the day - while the vampires lay dormant in their lairs.
Vampires have been extinct for centuries, but ever since the Beast has started killing - people are beginning to speculate if the vampires have returned, and if they have - will they want revenge.
“Ava, why are you so quiet.” Ronaldo’s voice shattered the silence, I turned to face him with a meek smile. “ I’m just thinking about the ‘Beast.” I shrugged.
“That monster needs to be caught, and sentenced to death for his crimes.” Ronaldo’s voice was cold, he definitely hated the famous serial killer just as much as I did.
My biggest fear is that the Beast might be one of my clients, I know, that sounds dramatic - but it’s a fear that keeps me up at night.
“Do you really think he’s a vampire?” I asked softly. Ronaldo burst out laughing as he drove into the Midnight lounge parking.
“Don’t be stupid, Ava - Vampires are extinct, that man or woman is a fraud. They definitely trying to stir fear into people, don’t fall for that nonsense.” He waved me off dismissively.
I bit back my nasty remarks for him calling me stupid, Ronaldo was very honest and to most, he comes off as rude. But not to me, I’ve gotten to know him over the years - he’s just a straightforward, and blunt guy.
Ronaldo parked the car, and we both got out. “You think Sierra’s here?” I asked as we made our way towards the club, the music got louder as we approached the club’s entrance.
“I’m not sure, I haven’t spoken to her in a while.” He muttered softly. I hid my smile, Sierra and Ronaldo have been secretly sleeping together - but here’s the catch, they both hate each other. I know Ronaldo is inlove with Sierra, he’s just too hard-headed to believe that he’s actually inlove with her.
Two bouncer’s dressed in navy blue suits, greeted us at the door. “Ava, what a pleasant surprise.” One of the bouncer’s spoke, his eyes were laced with lust as they roamed up, and down my body.
I gave him a tight smile. “ Thank you for having me.” I said curtly. I was in no mood to start fighting a whole bouncer. He smirked. And took my work bag from Ronaldo, so he could check it, and make sure no weapons were inside.
After our inspection at the door, we walked into the club, the tempo music was at a levelled volume, that made it easier to hear the next person speak. The club was packed even though it was only 4:30pm, a few girls were already drunk on the dance floor.
Heads turned as soon as I walked in, I could feel the weight of all their gazes on me. I ignored everyone’s stares, and went straight to the bar, my heels clacked on the illuminated floor with each step I took.
My eyes lit up when I saw Reed, my favourite bartender. I sat down comfortably on the bar stool, and Reed was already making his way to me. “Ms Carter, what a lovely surprise.” He winked, and ran his fingers through his dirty blonde hair, giving me a full view of his abs.
I instantly blushed, he was so goddamn handsome - I couldn’t resist the dirty thoughts that contaminated my brain, every time I was close to him. “Reed, Did you miss me?” I asked with a devious smirk, we always flirted but never crossed the line.
He sucked on his bottom lip, his eyes held a dangerous glint. “Miss you? My life is only complete when I’m around you.” He winked. “Eewww, I’m standing right here, don’t traumatise me.” Ronaldo chirped in, I completely forgot that he was here.
Me and Reed bursted into fits of laughter, while Ronaldo gave us both a death glare. “Sorry Ronaldo, I didn’t realise that we had a third wheel, I would’ve brought Sierra.” Reed muttered, as he took out a Champaign glass.
I giggled, these two were always bickering. “Why don’t you make Ava’s cocktail, before I lose my patience, and punch you in the face.” Ronaldo warned dangerously low.
I instantly stopped laughing, because I knew that Ronaldo was serious, he will tell you a truth, but never a lie. “Okay, let’s calm down.” I said as I pulled Ronaldo to sit next to me.
Reed immediately started whipping up my Cocktail, I took out my phone, and browsed through my messages. I frowned when I saw a message from Esmeralda, I opened the message and I was even more disappointed.
*Esmeralda : David will arrive at the club at 7:00pm, please give him a wonderful service to make up for your last stunt. Don’t you dare do anything that will harm my business again, Ava. And don’t come home late, my guests are excited to meet you.*
Esmeralda always had the worst timing, I didn’t bother to respond, we only communicated for business anyway. I really wish that I could stand up to her, I’m sick of her treating me like an object - my only solution is escape. I need to run far away from Blackthorn Hollow.
