Amber's POV
"I would never," Hawk said as he gave me a wink. I am not sure this man even knows what his words do.
I had looked in the mirror seeing all my scars. Noticing that the other girls did not have them. I seen their smooth skin, and how happy they were and it touched something in that created an ache in my heart. Hawk comes in, yanking that ache away and creating something else in me. I know he is the most feared creature on the planet. I read the stories and even googled a little bit about his myths. He did horrible things, though he was nothing like that with me. I felt safe, not afraid. I looked up at his handsome face, his eyes looking around the party. I slid my other arm into his as I leaned in a little closer.
The back yard had changed so much, there were white paper lanterns, covered candles and more paper lanterns on the tables. Flowers, and ribbons adorned the area. The area was the most beautiful thing I had seen.
"Amber!" I heard Momma Dee shout.
I turned to see Momma Dee in a light blue with white flowers dress. She had make up on and earrings with a pearl necklace. She looked much like a mother would. "Hi Momma Dee," I turned to smile.
I noticed she gave Hawk a worried look, before she asked "would you like to meet the Lunas that are here?"
I knew Lunas were the counterparts to the Alphas that ran their packs. I nodded. I had never met a Luna before.
I made sure I dragged Hawk with me. Walking up to the three ladies, all three were taller then me by a lot, "Hi Amber, I am Luna Sage." the super tall woman, with blonde hair tied back in a long pony tail full of curls. "Hi Luna Sage," I smiled.
"Hi Amber, I am Luna Elise," The slightly shorter woman with strawberry blonde hair and brilliant blue eyes smiled. "Hi Luna Elise," I glanced at the last one.
I watched her eyes dart over my skin, I felt Hawk stand behind me his hand placed just below my shoulder. "Hello Amber, I am Luna Amy," I could see her brown eyes wanted to ask as she absently coiled a finger around a brown curl hanging near her hair.
"Amber, is one of our recent saves," Momma Dee gushed. "She is re adjusting well."
"I was taken young, and held for a long time," I spoke, looking at the women, I could see their sadness. They had noticed my scars, but did not voice it. "But, I get better daily." I smiled.
"Who is the gentleman, with you?" Luna Sage was the one to ask the question.
"My name is Hawk, it is nice to meet you," I heard Hawk say above my head.
"He is my mate," I added. I had no idea why it slipped out but it did.
"Oh!" Momma Dee, all but squealed. "I wondered." She hugged me, eyeing Hawk she gave me a huge grin.
"Congrats," Luna Sage and Luna Elise said together.
"I am happy for you," Luna Amy gave me a soft smile. "I hope he is treating you well." She glanced up at Hawk a flicker of something passed her eyes.
"I have never had someone treat me better then he does." I turned a bit to look up at him looking down at me, the corners of his lips tipped up. "I am the safest I have ever been." I turned to look at the Lunas.
"Glad to hear it." Luna Sage met my eyes motioning down at me moving her shawl just a bit. I seen she too had scars littering her arms.
Luna Amy cleared her throat, turning my gaze to her, she turned to the side just a bit. I noticed the long claw marks along her arms. "We all go through rough things in life, but that which does not kill us better run," She winked. "Because our mates will." She glanced back to Hawk.
"Are you an Alpha?" Amy asked Hawk.
I felt him stiffen, I knew he did not want people to know who he was. "No," he answered.
"Hawk, was sent here by the Royal Lyican Princess. She wanted him here to guard me." I shrugged. "I had called her by accident. We chatted the next thing I knew he found me in the woods and has been with me ever since." I paused to glance up at him. "We only just recently found out we were mates." I added.
"The Royal Lyican Princess?" I heard Luna Elise mumble.
"Yes," I nodded with conviction. I turned to look at Hawk, who's eyes dropped down to mine. "I am hungry," I smiled up at him.
"If you will excuse us," Hawk looked at the four women. His hand dropped down to wrap my arm around his.
"Nice meeting you all," I beamed as Hawk led me away to a table.
We left as he walked around the tables. He spotted one just past the others. Leading me to that, he pulled my chair out and I sat. Pulling the one next to me he too sat. "I didn't think you wanted them to know." I peaked up at him. He was looking at me, there was something in his eyes that held me.
He grabbed my hand, "Yes, I did not want them to know."
I squeezed his hand, "I won't say anything." I went back to my plate.
I felt him lean forward, drawing my hand to him. "I like how you said I was your mate." Hawk's voice took on another level of smooth and husky.
Those words made my breath catch, as I glimpsed his brown eyes and those black lashes beckoning me into their depths. "I wanted to say it," my voice breathy and shaky.
Hawk lifted my hand to his lips and gave a light kiss. "Let's eat," he smiled.
We both nibbled some, neither of us were that hungry. I watched the dancing, and seen how graceful everyone was. I wanted to, but did not know how.
"Did you want to dance?" Hawk asked as he looked between the dance floor and I.
"I want to but, don't know how." I muttered, looking down at my plate.
"Its easy," Hawk stood. Reaching out his hand, "trust me." I could see an excited gleam in his eyes.
"Ok," I rose, from my chair, taking his hand. We walked to the edge of the dance floor. Hawk turned to me, I watched him take the hand he was holding and place it on his shoulder. His other hand took mine, placing that one on his other shoulder. Placing both hands on my waist, he picked me up off the ground just barely. "Put your feet on mine." He leaned down to whisper near my ear.
I placed my feet on his. His arms holding me securely as my hands held onto his shoulders. He started to move slowly at first. I felt his muscles bunch and coil as we went around the dance floor like that. It was an experience like nothing else. I felt safe, and was enjoying the fun of the dance.
