For fans of Dungeons and Dragons, this story was partially inspired and influenced by D&D.

Born into a life of luxury, Nydia is the princess and heir to her kingdom. The Dan'enda people coexist with dragons and are linked to them as a result of an ancient war. Many generations later, they war with other races of the continent: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Nymphs, and Fairies. The treaty results in a multiracial school where Nydia eventually goes with her dragon companion, Ivy, to try to understand more of her powers and magic, and why her family is being targeted.

Quick History of Atesia
In the capital of Anenia stands the most renowned magical academy in all of Atesia: Silverlight. Anenia is the homeland of the Fairies, close to the center of the main continent of Atesia, and thus was thought to be the best area for multiple races to work together and rebuild. The academy was founded by the heads of each race of Atesia after the Great War in order to provide a symbol of good faith to all seeking peace. Each other race still has their homeland, but many choose to live in Anenia where they thrive and benefit each other. The Humans came from the far off island of Iacia, the area near the south-west portion of the mainland. The humans quickly and easily adapted to the new land. They also have a fondness for inventing machines and weapons. They have a middle proficiency for the arcane arts, but few actually use them since they are more fond of making machines. Those who dabble in the arts typically do so to enhance their mechanical creations. Next, we have the Elves who live in Elden, but some journeyed to Anenia before the humans and the many other races. They are seekers of knowledge, warriors of justice, and hunters by association. They craft the finest artwork and enchanted staffs that anyone can buy. Their thirst for knowledge makes them the best suitors of the Arcane arts, but at a price the more they seek it. Soon after the Elves, some of the Dan'enda, the Dragon People, followed to live in the land of Anenia. They came after traveling from the northern lands of Dragha. Unlike the other races, there is still a major kingdom in their homeland because of their deep connection with the dragons. The dragon people are half human and half dragon, thus can transform themselves into full dragon forms, although this is rare as their magic has become less prominent. They are usually in tune with many living things including other dragons and wild creatures, making them good at wrangling some of the more dangerous beasts. The Dan'enda can speak Draghan, the language of the dragons, and have an untold magic power connecting them and their 'Sparks', or dragon companions. The Dwarves emerged soon after the Dan'enda, having made a separate pact with them as a mutual need for protection and land ensured they worked together. Being good with tools and mostly brute force, they ran the mountain range later known as Duridian separating Dragha from the rest of Atesia. They have large underground civilizations and provide many resources to the other races. The Dwarven rulers have always been equal to those of the Dan'enda and to this day still have a deep respect for each other. The Nymphs of Isisia were next to arrive upon the land of Anenia. They are the middle ground between the Elves and Dan'enda as they seek knowledge and have many abilities. They are known as the best beast tamers in all of Atesia because of these abilities, but what separates them from other races is that they have a very special quality. This quality, or instinct, is that they can 'See' the life force of the lands and all living things, and cherish every one of these life forces with their pure hearts. Last, but not least, are the Fairies, or Aret'm. The oldest and most respected of the races in Atesia, they are the originators of Anenia and have great connections with the elements and all of the Arcane magics. They were chosen as the hosts of the "neutral land" of Anenia for the academy because of the respect they hold towards others and earn for themselves. Prologue: The Creation of the Dan'enda In the beginning of Atesia, there were only a few gods running the lands. There was goddess Dhana, her husband Daghda, the goddess Morgana, the goddess Beira, the god Borrum, and the goddess Dhilyrra. The six of these took control of various aspects of the lands they ran. Some other aspects and responsibilities came to be shared amongst them or given to some within their courts. When the gods began to create creatures to exist with the people, they first created fish. With Dhana’s magic of fertility, the fish flourished. Dhana touched some of the fish one day, interested in how the fish lived, and she unintentionally imbued her magic of the earth into them. Those fish sprang into lizards over time. There were only a few hundred lizards roaming the land at that time. With the magic of fertility still in them, both lizard and fish populations eventually grew, however the people who hunted the fish found they could also hunt and live off of the lizards. In order to try to protect the lizards from being killed off, Borrum gave some of them his power of the sky, and Dhana made them grow in size. The dragons were then created, and they created colonies away from the people. They lived in the mountains of an island surrounded by dense forests and the ocean. Their senses let them know when humans were near and they defended themselves appropriately. The gods and goddesses watched as war eventually ensued. Morgana assisted many souls into her domain. One of those souls claimed to have powers of prophecy. On the day that she died, the woman had a dream of a girl being born who would bring balance to the war. As the years went by, the deities were unable to stop the war, to persuade the races to accept peace. They wondered if there could be a way for the prophecy to become true. Dhana was watching the forest one day, worried about what could happen to her forests if the fighting didn't stop. As she walked down the paths the people had created, she came across an infant. There were no recent tracks near the baby, so Dhana feared for the child. They had been abandoned. Upon further investigation, Dhana realized this was a baby girl. She decided to adopt her into her ways. Dhana took the girl to the mountains, to the dragons. “Please, my children, take care of her. She has no one and you are her family now.” The dragons reluctantly agreed. Daghda heard of this and joined her. They took the girl to a pair of mated dragons. These dragons were trying to have a baby of their own. They were very glad to assist the goddess and take care of this precious life bestowed by their mother goddess. As the girl grew to be a few years old, the couple finally had an egg with life. They would soon have a baby of all their own. The girl was very excited to have a sibling, though she understood the dragons were not her real parents. She touched the egg one day and the dragon hatched. The girl reached out to the small bundle of dark green scales and they formed a bond. Dhana and Daghda came to witness the event and, as a gift, imbued the girl with the same magic that they initially used to create the dragons. The magic was connected between the girl and the dragonling. They were one and the same. That girl grew to be a woman. She decided to name herself Diana Dragha, in honor of the way she was saved and the way of life she had become accustomed to, and the dragon was named Eva. The bond grew between Diana and the other dragons. With this bond, she stopped the war, and fulfilled the prophecy. She met someone who had also been trying to find peace in the chaos. They married and had generations of children, becoming the queen and king of a new age. The Dan'enda people were formed together, through these blooming families, based on understanding the dragons and becoming life-long allies. Any humans who did not wish to stay near the dragons went back home across the sea.
