Al had given instructions to leave Juanita Asturias alone in the interview room, hoping a lonely period of waiting would make her more cooperative. In the meantime he decided to talk to Greg Swales in his private office without the presence of lawyers. The two men sat at Al's desk with snacks and coffees.
"This is all off the record, Mr Swales," Al began. "Just you and me taking refreshments on a fine Fall afternoon."
Greg knew Al Bruce's case against Susan and himself had run into the sand. But his lawyers had not yet managed to secure his release and he was wary of the cunning detective. "My legal team wouldn't advise this but, as an innocent man, I'm happy to talk if you're not gonna try to set traps for me. You'd be wasting your time and mine, as I've told you all I know."
