Rena's pleadings were left unheard as she was forced into the police van and taken to a psychiatric hospital. One she only saw in the news. Her heart was shattered. Nothing made sense to her anymore. Just as her lawyer advised, she complied with everything she was told. If she behaved right, she would be out early, and get to meet her kids again. Till then she had to keep her pregnancy a secret. She needed to surprise Dave with the news when she was out. Dave’s love for her was too strong. He visited every weekend, keeping track of her progress and showing her the latest pictures of their twins. Rena’s heart almost bursted out in gladness. Words couldn’t describe the level of calmness she felt around him. He was indeed her one and only.
The one sent to her from heaven.
Like he always does, he held her hand and whispered rays of hope into her ears.
“You will be out very soon. I promise.”
“And you will be a father again,” she wanted to tell.
Aside from the news of a missing 12 year old girl that wouldn’t stop going round, everything was dormant. The clinic was hell.
“What a news,” Rena said to herself, wondering why people wouldn’t stop gossiping. But that wasn’t her problem. Trying to keep her sanity, she walked other patients, taught them songs and tried to be herself as much as she could. Then, the hospital workers noticed this. They were stunned by how ‘normal’ she was. How was she responding to treatment so fast? It was barely five months, and she was already acting like one of them.
Finally, they concluded to discharge her. But not without the necessary proof that she was indeed normal.
After a long meeting, they assigned her to a doctor named Doctor Ferdinard. Doctor Ferdinard was a British psychological doctor invited to check the case of special psychiatric patients. Though he’s been in the field for years, no one saw him fit to be promoted into the Senior Psychologist role. His inquisitive nature and rebellious acts was one they couldn’t handle in the medical field. Only God knows how many warnings he’s gotten since the start of his career. On hearing he was the one handling Rena’s treatment, most workers lost all hope in her going home. Ferd was just so unreliable. However, that didn’t stop him. Rena’s case intrigued him so much. He sent for her and she came. It was the 5th of November, 2010. A day Rena would never forget. She sat before him in his office, and watched him pull out her report.
“Rena Rayon?” He repeated her name.
“Yes,” she nodded.
“You are pregnant. Does your husband know this?” he asked.
“I will tell him soon…”
“Staying here in this condition is dangerous…”
“That's why I need your help.”
He glanced at her report.
“Look, your report is clear. Are you hiding something?” he arched his brows.
“Nothing is wrong with me.” she explained.
His eyes squirted.
“So…someone put you here on purpose?” he asked.
“I am tired of explaining myself,” she got impatient.
“Sorry, if my questions are bothering you. But help me help you Mrs Rena,” he said with a soft tone.
She was silent.
“Good,” he smiled and gazed back at her document. “So, who is trying to make you look crazy?”
“My father-in-law, my mother-in-law, all of them,” she explained. “Since I married into that influential family, no one has ever treated me right. It was as if I was an outcast or something…”
“Outcast?”
She was silent for a while, took a deep breath and decided to speak.
“Actually…there is something people don’t know about me…”
