“My husband met and fell in love with me during his music training days. I fell pregnant due to our love and he decided to marry me. His family wasn’t happy with this. I wasn't rich, so according to them I didn't belong in their lives. Since the birth of my kids, they never let me become a good mother to them. They tried all they could to make Dave hate me. But his love is so strong, he can’t.”
“I assume Dave Rayon is your husband. I have heard of him all over the news…”
“He is a very popular man,” she explained.
“Fair enough.”
He took off his glasses and placed them carefully in its glass frame.
“Rena, if you are telling the truth, this is a very serious case,” he said.
“You think I am happy rotting away here everyday?” she defended herself.
“I believe it is unusual for an influential family like that to stoop this low…”
“You don’t get it…”
“Look, have you heard what they accused you of?! You tried to poison your own son, Rena. You dream of weird things. This isn't a simple case at all. There were proofs and witnesses against you. Other charges were piled up before, but your husband chose to dismiss them because he loves you. Unfortunately your in-laws didn’t keep quiet this time. How can they make the same accusations again and again?” the doctor brought it up.
“I don’t understand either. I don’t get why they keep blaming me for what I didn’t do,” her voice cracked as tears gathered in her eyes. Her voice was already getting choked with emotions.
“How did you get the poisoned food?” he asked.
“I wasn't around when the food was delivered to the house. The maid told me my in-laws wanted him to have the food. So I gave it to him,” she explained.
“The maid,” the doctor tried understanding.
“Yes. There is a maid in that house. She doesn't act like a maid though because my in-laws love her so much. She has a pure heart and she is really close to my husband. I do not blame them because they grew up together. She was also clueless of what was happening then,” Rena explained.
“What’s this maid name?” Dr Ferdiand asked.
“Sharon,” she reported.
The doctor let out a hmm… before sighing.
“Look, I don’t understand what is going on here. I can however, get you out faster based on your response to treatment.”
Rena smiled happily.
“Thank you.”
“Can I advise you?” he asked. She nodded. “Do not go back to that house.”
Her heart dampened.
“What do you mean? My kids…how… .”
“I am no lawyer, but I know well that evil people don’t give up easily. They will come after you again and again until they end you,” he said.
Rena's body went cold. She stared at him in hatred.
“Do you understand what I just said?” the doctor could sense her reluctance.
Silence.
“Rena, your corpse won’t raise your kids.”
She slowly nodded without saying a word.
“Great. Thank you,” he sighed with relief.
Dave visited her a week later with more photographs of the kids. She gazed at them with teary eyes as her heart leapt at their sight. Her hands caressed the photos as she pressed them to her chest.
“My babies,” she cried.
“You will be released by the end of the month,” Dave announced. “The hospital said you are responding well to treatment and you aren't a threat anymore.”
Rena grinned.
“He kept his promise,” she said.
“Who?”
“What?” she asked.
“Who kept his promise?”
She immediately shook her head.
“Forget it. It's no one,” she brushed it off.
Dave’s expression darkened.
