The Battle of Wolves

CHAPTER THREE

It was seven fifty-three in the evening, seven minutes before the clock turns to eight o’clock in the evening where we were instructed to gather up every night. We are all sitting quietly forming into circles and the only thing that we can hear is the ticking of the clock every second. Then someone broke the deafening silence between us.

“Did all of you bring your weapons?” a girl asked

“Yes, we did” Steph replied

“How about you?” she also asked the unnamed girl, she then just nodded in response to the question.

“We will use these to kill each other, right?” Pete asked softly that feels like it was almost a whisper. No one respond to him, and we just quietly put our heads down. Mika then raised her hand to ask something.

“Can I say something?” she asked

“I have a proposal, according to the general rules of the battle, the prophet should say who he or she is firsthand, that’s how you play it.” She added

“Well, their identity is very important” Steph verified

“Can I ask for a favor this time?” She continued,

“You’re fired up because of this?” Miklosh asked that made Mika to fell into silence.

“It’s a little different this time, isn’t it?” I asked

“What do you mean?” Miklosh asked

“Well, if this was a normal game, then it would be no big deal, but this is a crazy village, right?” I added

“We have madmen here, in other words, they are people that can make the werewolf win, while in the other hand, the village only has a prophet and a bodyguard.” I continued,

“That’s why, once the prophet reveals their identity, then they will be voted for execution” I concluded. Mika suddenly giggled.

“You can’t be fooled huh?” she stated,

“I don’t understand, normally, the commoner side has more people, that’s why once the prophet reveals their identity, then they won’t be voted for” she explained,

“But right now, it’s the opposite. There’s nobody that will protect them, and it seems like their only ally is the bodyguard after all so they should never expose their identity” she added,

“So, you laid a trap. If the stupid prophet revealed their identity, then everyone would vote for them.” Alec clarifies

“That’s right. I’m a madman after all” Mika stated,

“She’s already playing the game” Miklosh spatted, “Can’t I just be with myself?” he added.

“Katana is the one who caught the trap, The possibility that you are a prophet is high” Mika said as she looked at me.

“she told the truth about the prophet so that they wouldn’t reveal their identity” she added.

“I thought you would say that” I instantly replied to her. All of us went silent then I decided to speak about something.

“That is why I was silent for a while, I allowed enough time to see whether the prophet would reveal their identity, then I stated the error of doing it afterwards, I cannot let Mika to give you guys the wrong idea about it.” I said and looked at Mika who is now lowering his head down and looking at her shoes.

“shouldn’t we believe what she said about the madmen?” I added.

“by the way, I am a madman too.” Steph stated casually while crossing her arms in front of her.

“There’s one more thing” I spatted, “The werewolf should expose their identity, if they are executed, then all of the madmen will lose.” I continued.

“The madmen should protect the werewolf at all costs”, I added. Then Alec spoke right after I finished my word.

“Normally, you try to find the werewolf, right?” he asked

“But this is the opposite” the unnamed student stated.

“The werewolf and madmen are looking for the only two villagers which is the prophet and the bodyguard” he continued

“At this point, the werewolf should not be executed. Out of all the people here, 7 people are on the madmen side” Mika said slowly.

“That’s it” I agreed to what Mika has said. Then surprisingly, someone raised her hand, it was one of the unnamed students.

“I am the werewolf” she just confessed. All of us got silent and looked at her with our eyes open, I didn’t expect that the werewolf was a girl!

“No, I’m the werewolf” the unnamed boy has raised his hands and claimed that he was the real werewolf.

“That means she’s a liar” he added and pointed his hands towards the girl. The girl’s eyes widen in disbelief on what that boy did.

“You’re the liar, aren’t you?!” The girl shouted out of anger towards the boy.

“In other words, you are either the prophet or bodyguard!” she said while throwing dagger looks towards the boy.

“Listen up, I am the real werewolf” Alec claimed coldly.

“I’ve been thinking, everyone here should just protect me” he added

“What the hell are you saying?” Pete reacted on what Alec has saying to all of us.

“I mean, it makes sense, right? People cannot vote for me; I am free to kill whoever I want to every night” he said like he’s already gone mad. “If you don’t wanna die, then just do the things that you were told” he said to Pete while making his face closer to him and laughed hysterically after.

“Shut up, you might be a fake” Pete claimed and looked at Alec with the same intensity.

“that’s true, you’re bluffing” Ace inserted

“You’re bluffing, aren’t you?!” Pete angrily spatted at Alec

“Will you all shut up?! Stop bickering with each other!” I shouted at them.

“if he’s the real one, then all of the madmen will lose the game!” I added

“If the werewolf gets executed, then it is the end for the madmen.” Mika supported my claim.

“it is better for us to vote those worst people first” said the unnamed girl

“This guy is a scumbag! So gross!” she added

“Then you should die!!!” Alec shouted lividly

“Those kinds of words are so insulting and hurts people’s feelings the most!” he shouted and breathe heavily to calm him down.

“That’s right, everyone should just vote for her” Alec flatly spoke

“Huh?” the unnamed girl asked out of confusion

“The people who wouldn’t vote for her will be executed by night” he warned us.

“Are you stupid? You should execute the other person who claimed as werewolf!” Steph said

“I can worry about that later!” Alec shouted at Steph back.

“Hey, you’re the prophet, right? Ha! We should kill the bodyguard that who’s been protecting her” He continued

“We can kill her with confidence” He said while looking at his sharp knife on his hands.

“Now I get it! HE’s a fake! I won’t believe him!” Steph said angrily and keep on pointing her hands towards the direction where Alec is sitting.

“But what he’s saying isn’t wrong either!” Miklosh shouted and looked at her

“seriously? What side are you on?” she replied to him

“His way of thinking is very brutal! Like he already experienced killing someone before” Steph pointed out.

“but It is not too bad” Mika defended Alec against the judgements of Steph towards him

“Huh? Are you crazy? So, everyone protects the werewolf? Sounds great” Steph weakly stated.

“I will go along with it” Mika said while looking at Steph mockingly.
