Chapter 7 - Demise
Blood spilled from my leg even with the applied pressure. Hissing relentlessly at the pain I scooted as far as I could away from the mysterious person that loomed over me. Tears flowed freely from my eyes, burning my raw cheeks. The person had a hoodie concealing his/her identity beside it was a five-foot forest green dog whose saliva slobbered from its b****y mouth, dripping off of its crimson canines. Its tail resembles a tree leaf, it looked like me, an earth faery but instead, it was a dog. Its amber eyes trained on me with fire and revenge ablaze in its eyes. I wondered what I have done to get on this dog's bad side and desperately prayed to reverse it. Its huge paws carried the weight of its overgrown body. Paws that carried sharp claws thick with dirt from its previous chase. I wondered if it liked the chase before the meal. Like a big cat taunting its prey before devouring them soullessly. Harsh growls erupted from its chest like a pissed tiger, one that I wasn't going to disobey.
Its growls stopped mid-scoot. I applied greater pressure to my leg, shutting my eyes briefly to teat if this was an awful nightmare. The room was freezing cold from the lack of light but the warmth that the beast's body brought had me shivering. Such a proud creature that bowed under the command of someone else. Did the beast do the dirty work while the person watched? I hoped that I wasn't on the menu but the way that the beast moved closer had that hope fading into nothing. "P-Please!" The person in front of me slowly bent down. My heart picked up its pace, hammering heavily against my chest. Cold sweat dripped from my forehead mixing with my hot tears. Snot ran down from my nose as my head pounded in pain.
"Hey, calm down...I'm only here to deliver something to you." A voice resonated from the person before me. Masked by her hoodie. The voice was definitely that of a girl's, the pitch and concern certainly not one to miss. The dog in front of me seized its growling before lapping at its saliva wagging its leafy tail at me with its tongue tilted at an angle out its mouth. Its angry amber eyes were now soft and careful. It panted in glee, running over to me giving me a mini heart attack but it immediately went for my injured leg. It quickly removed my hand before it began to lap at the wound. Its icy saliva cleared away the crimson leaving a pink scar that remained from healed flesh. My eyes opened as wide as saucers staring at the beast before me in alarm.
"Yeah, one of her many talents. She's Demise your devil dog." Looking at the hooded girl I stared at her in confusion. 'What devil dog did I order?' The girl must have noticed my turmoil because she quickly explained. "Before your mother passed she ordered me to deliver Demise to you to help you on your quest."
"Who are you?" Her head rose but the darkroom made it hard to see what was beneath her cover. "I don't matter, what does is you saving this forest from killing themselves, I wish you the best. But can you tell me where to find fairy dust?" Huffing at my recent chase, I decided to answer her question. "From Flutter's cove-wait!" As quickly as she came, she left. She moved faster than anything I have ever seen before. A vampire couldn't catch up to her. The only thing that proved she was here was Demise that happily lapped at my healed leg. "Lavender!" Karla's voice boomed through the huge library. I quickly guided her with my voice. Demise growled at the incoming stranger, looking at me as if she was seeking my permission to rip Kalra to shreds.
"Karla be careful a devil dog is on here."
"Oh my god, Lavender! Don't move! I'm coming."
Suddenly the yellow light from the old bulb in the room switched on. The library lit up to show hundreds of thousands of books that were stacked high on huge shelves. I could see Demise's forest green fur clearer and her burning amber eyes. My eyes slowly readjusted to take in the library's beauty. The cream shelves surrounded me, drowning me with the knowledge that any man would dream of having. The disty room slowly began to clean itself, fallen books began to fly in the air traveling to their correct place. The light above us slowly transformed into a huge crystal chandelier, showing of the polished floors beneath. It was like a completely different building. The thick cream-covered walls glowed with life as a tin shoulder in the corner of the room straightened gradually. Demise growls grew as Karla rounded the corner.
Loud screams rippled from her throat frightening the silence in the room. I quickly gripped Demise's soft fur, stroking the leafy coat. She purred under the delicate strokes standing down from tearing Karla to shreds. "Are you okay?" Karla whispered. Nodding at her my attention was brought back to rusty metal clanking together, behind Karla stood the tin soldier. Like armor from a King's castle. "Good night to you all, what do you seek in this library...let me guess answers?"
Books from high shelves descended to me swirling in circles above my head. All of the books were about supernatural creatures and battles. "Books, on top of books for one's pleasure is this what brought you here? Knowledge only this place possesses?" The old covers of the covers managed to glisten under the crystal light. Karla remained in the room frozen in confusion, wondering what was going on but I quickly took one of the books from the circle and began to read.
This book was about all the supernaturals but my sole focus was the page that was marked "Lethals" there I tried to find answers to my many questions.
