Chapter 11

In all the things she did the whole day, Victoria is very tired not of those but tired of her father. The father who controls her life and dictates everything. He’s making her like a child who cannot decide for herself. And now, he also does it to Cedrick. She is angry with her father and also Cedrick. The guy she thought might be the backbone of their marriage but, no. He let her father manipulate him and their marriage.

Upon entering her office, she picks her phone on the table and dialed Cedrick's phone number. She has to let this out of her chest. It annoys her so much.

“Hey, Honey.” His opening.

“I talked to Dad! Seriously, Cedrick? Do you even have to always listen to him? We have our own family! Don’t depend on him or be manipulated by him! I am so disappointed!” She told him continuously without even trying to stop.

He felt shocked at how she reacted. And feels ashamed of the fact that she is right. But he doesn’t expect that she will react that way. He gathered his thoughts then replied.

“Okay, Hon. Calm down.”

“How can I calm down?! That is why you suddenly asked me to have a baby! Why can’t you tell him no on everything he tells me? Why do you have to listen to him? If you are not ready for it then tell him no. Don't be a hypocrite!” She’s nearly yelling on the phone. This is the first time she gets angry at him and the first time she lets her anger out.

You can describe her as a deep water. Silent on the surface but dangerous deep down. When you are not careful, you will drown.

“Honey,” Cedrick is still calm. He doesn’t want to make her even angrier. He doesn’t know how she can be angry and he respects her so much. “Okay, I’m sorry. I just want him to be happy and I know my parents will be happy too if we will have a baby. Just calm down okay? We will talk about this later at home. I know you are angry so I will let you for now. We talk later okay, Honey?”

She let out a deep sigh. Now that she let her anger out, she felt calmer. Her frowns subside. She knows how to say sorry when she is wrong and she also knows how to accept. She’s not that kind of person who gets angry for so long but this is different. She hates how her father treats her then Cedrick falls in the same situation as her. That is not acceptable.

“I am sorry, honey. I promise, I will not let your father invade our marriage.” Added Cedrick.

After hanging up the phone, Cedrick thought about something. Having a child with her wife is also beneficial for him. Not only for their marriage but for him to have something to make Victoria love him too. It is not deniable on how they got to where they are now. And he knows that Victoria loves him but not as much as he loves her. If he will have a baby with her, she will be stuck with him. It’s bad to think about that but that’s his thought.

To Victoria, having a child is also her dream. She wants to have a big family. A family that she will love and protect. A family that she will make sure to give all the love she can give, not like what kind of family she has.

Her anger remains. She keeps on thinking about it.

It’s already time for lunch and she remembers that she is going to meet Helena. Maybe she can make her forget what happened today. She grabs her bag and goes. The restaurant is not too far from her office. It’s only a fifteen minutes drive. When she got there, Helena was already waiting for her.

“Hello! How are you?” Helena asks her. She’s in her skinny jeans and a button up blouse paired with high heeled shoes. She just came from a meeting.

“A bit stressed but I am great!” She answered and gave her a kiss on the cheek for greetings.

They walk in the restaurant side by side. Victoria with her floral skirt and a tucked inned white blouse paired with black stiletto. She is also a woman of fashion.

“I hope you will like the food here.” Helena said.

“Oh, I’m sure. I am not picky with foods like Val.” She replied smiling.

“Oh my God! That sister of yours. It is hard for me sometimes to bring her for lunch or dinner because she is so picky and she always makes comments on everything.” Helena also jokingly confesses.

They laugh together about that conversation. The ambiance in that restaurant is very refreshing. It makes Victoria’s heart calmer. While they are having lunch, they talk about work and also life.

Helena felt that Victoria was not jolly at that time. She’s curious about what she is feeling.

“But, are you really okay?” She asked her.

Victoria picks her wine glass and sip on it. She let out a sigh.

“Oh, okay. So, I am right. You are not okay. If you don’t mind, I can listen to you.” She offered

“It’s something personal.”

“Oh, right! Okay, I will not force you then. But know that you can tell me things if you want.

“It’s all about my father and my husband.” She started. She doesn’t know why but she feels comfortable with Helena. She never felt that way with a person she only knew. But there is the feeling in her guts that she can trust her. She’s the best friend of her sister anyway. “I am so stressed. I know it’s not new to your ears about our story, I mean my Dad.”

“That? Hmm. Yeah! Val told me.”

“I don’t like how he wants to manipulate my marriage. I gave him all I can to make him happy but even in my married life? It’s unacceptable. And Cedrick also let him. Duh?!” She finally let her anger explode again.

“Wow! I can’t believe your father still does that to you. But why?”

“Maybe it’s also my fault because I let him. I am not like Valerie. I don’t have the strength to fight back or maybe I am just scared to lose what I Have.”

“But Victoria, you are big enough to stand for yourself. Big enough, I mean you created your name and worked hard wherever you are. What can you still lose?”

Victoria sighs again.

“All I want is love from him.” She confesses. “That’s all I want.”

“Do you have to spend your life seeking or wanting for that love?” Helena felt sorry for her. She can feel how lonely she was. All the stories of her sister are true.

“I don’t know. I love my father so much.”

“But he can’t give you that?”

“He does love me. He only wants the best for me.” Now, Victoria is trying to convince herself that that is the truth. But sometimes she is tired of convincing herself. She knows her father loves her. He just doesn't want to make her feel it.

“I hope so. You know, U want the best for you. I want you to be happy just like your sister.”

“Thank you. By the way, have you seen that little monster the past few days?” She wants to change the topic.

“Valerie?”

“Yes.”

“Oh, you know, your sister is a busy business woman too. She wants to show your father how far she can go without him helping her. She is full of pride.”

Victoria smiled. She is happy for her sister. Sometimes she feels jealous but she doesn’t have the right.

“I know. And I'm proud she is building her own name in the business.”

“Yes! It’s incredible how she works so hard.”

Then suddenly, Helena’s phone rings.

“Speaking of the devil.” She laughs while showing her phone to Victoria. She smiled too.

“Yes girl?”

“Where are you?” She asked straight.

“I am having lunch with your sister.”

“What??! Why didn't you tell me? And where is that devious sister of mine?”

“Wait.” Helena passes the phone to Victoria.

“Val.”

“How dare you steal my bff!” She jokingly told Victoria. She laughed so hard at how witty her sister is.

“Well, sorry missy, but I am her new bff from now on.” She also rides on the funny conversation. Helena keeps laughing at how the sisters talk. She observes now how Victoria taks and how she smiles and laughs. She’s gorgeous. That’s a given fact. While she’s looking at her, she remembers the dream she had a few days ago. That kiss from the dream. She wants to have that for real.
