Behind the Empire's shadow

The bell rang and all the students hurried out of their classroom. It was the final day of their exam and most of them waved their selves good-bye. There was only one college in the whole of Hunshaw and it was attended by al the students in that city and the neighbouring cities as well. It was a first class school and only people in the upper class(the rich) could attend. Jordan walked hand in hand with Emma-his highschool friend. They both lived in the town outskirts where the business tycoons resided. Jordan Hee was the son of the wealthiest man in the whole of Hunshaw. He had assets worth tens of millions home and abroad and he was the vice president of the Commerce Bureau in Cang'nam city the capital of Hunshaw. Jordan had a lot of friends and some delinquent sychopant fawning over him, he always kept his distance and prefer to be and remain low key. The only person he hung out with was Emma whom he loved so much but he wouldn't tell her for fear that she would abandon him. Emma Wei, a direct descendant of the Wei family one of the aristocratic family in the history of Hunshaw. The family has assets also worth tens of millions but was under the strict control of Mr Wei- Emma's grandfather. Mr Wei grew up in hardship and built the empire that existed under the scorching sun.. Living a life of penury in the past and skyrocketing into millions overnight... No one knew how but over the years he maintained that success as ruled the Wei family witt an iron fist. He refused to weld power and refused to hand over to the younger generation. ******************* ******************* THE WEI FAMILY VILLA Mr Wei sat on his luxurious office chair reclining as he went through the stocks market. He frowned slightly on sighting the Hee group on top of the the list... This two group were the anchor of Hunshaw but they had an inseparable rivalry. "Xavier!" Mr Wei called out loud and a middle aged man walked in "You called for me" He bowed slightly awaiting his orders "Why are we still below the Hee group. I thought I asked you to mobilize all of Hunshaw's resource so we can crush the Hee group" He thundered "Sir the Hee group has a strong foundation and they have diverse connections. Crushing them is a little hard sir" *Hmph" Mr Wei sneered "What do they have. Just because he is the Vice President of the commerce of Bureau, he thinks he has some backing. I might not be a member of the Bureau but I am by far better that those losers". "Gather all of the Wei family. We have a meeting. I have an important announcement to make" Xavier shuddered in excitement. Everyone in the Wei family itched to eat who would succeed the ol man. "That must be the big announcement" Xavier thought to himself and ran off to work ***************** ***************** Jordan and Emma sat down in a taxi quietly. Jordan glanced at her at his heart bled. Sitting beside their college flower unable to do anything. He and Emma had been Friends throughout their entire days in college. He always rode an electric bike to school, while Emma's grandfather arranged a ride to take her to and from school. As time went on they put aside their individual rides and started taking a taxi home together. "Jordan" Emma called out coquettishly and rested her head on his chest. Jordan's heart was racing fast. He looked at her and their gaze met. He scanned her beautiful face and it seemed to be full of emotion. He mustered courage and replied "What is it" he heard himself say almost immediately "Do you think Grandfather Wei will hand over the company to my father" She asked her hand sliding over Jordan's chest He felt a lump in his throat. He opened his mouth but nothing came out. Emma didn't retreat instead she pinched him "Snap out of it already" She said snapping her fingers in front of him thrice smiling-She always smiled and it was hard to detect her feelings from her facial expression. "I don't know" Jordan muttered. She lifted her head and she stared straight at him "I don't want it" "why?" "You won't understand". Jordan was about to reply when Emma's phone beeped. It was a WECHAT notification from the family group. "*we are having a board meeting in the next five minutes I have a big announcement*" Her expression flicked. "What is it" Jordan asked "It's grandfather he wants to make a big announcement. I'm nervous" He held her hands comforting her "You'll be fine " Infact he did not understand why she prays her grandfather bypasses her father and give it to his brother. If he were in her shoes, he would dream of being the future heir of the family. But here she is praying not o get picked "How strange' he thought. Although both family were not business partners, they still needed each other. The Hee group were the only producer of motor spirit used to power all the automobiles in Hunshaw . They were also among the top ten refiners in China The Wei Group were automobile engineeers. They built cars for other clients. Although they have tried to venture into car making themselves they had not been quite successful. They stuck with building for others while learning for the future of the Wei group.
