Childhood memories
After having three cold beers, Qhawe paid the bill, and we stumbled out into the pitch-black night, singing "Happy Birthday, Qhawe" in harmony. We headed to the nearby park, thronging with people and pulsating with music. I shivered, but the night's excitement kept me from wanting to leave. We sat on a bench, laughing at people passing by, when a girl with two friends caught my attention. She had been staring at me for a long time, and I felt a flutter in my chest.
In the feeling of guilty she then decide to come to us . She greeted wearing a smile in her face " ohh finally i got to hear her voice for the first time". It felt as if it's not the first time, but my friends never disappoints in making someone feel not good enough. They made funny jokes about her voice and chase her away. I followed her as she's walking away i tried to call her she finally stopped and listen what i wanted to say, i apologise on behalf of my friends behaviour.
Like always am good at comforting girls but this time my tricks didn't work. I befriended her i introduced myself to her trying to sound casual, and she told me her name was Sphesihle - a beautiful name that matched her striking features and bright smile. We exchanged numbers. I came closer to her and tried kiss her but my friend Qhawe show Up out of nowhere she grabbed my wrist saying " Hey dude do you want us to get killed by your dad remember " . I was reminded about my dad i finally agreed to go back home .
As we towards my house, I thought about how my strict father would react react if he come to know that i was away from home since last night i was very terrified. I could smell the aroma of sizzling bacon, mushrooms, eggs, and vienna filled the air coming from my house. I walk in and greet everyone as we gathered around the table for breakfast. Mom had prepared a delicious spread, and we savored each bite. Dad asked, " where do you come from Hlalu"? my heart skipped a beat like i didn't expect that question. " I was at Asiphe's place she asked me to keep her company since her parents are away" i said with a shaky voice .My little sister, Ezovuyo, nudged me to tell the truth but I quickly changed the subject, not wanting to reveal my night out. "Ezovuyo, aren't you running late for school? Why aren't you coming with me today?
We used to go together, what's changed?" She added, "I'm not feeling well today, and besides, the trials haven't started yet, so it's okay." Just then, the doorbell rang, and our mother called out, "Ezovuyo, your transport is here!" My sister reluctantly got up, grabbed her bag, and headed out the door. As she left, I couldn't help but feel a mix of guilt and relief - guilt for not being honest with my parents and relief that I had dodged a bullet.
As we finished breakfast, my father turned to me and said, "You know, baby girl, I've been thinking. You're getting older now, and it's time we had a talk about responsibility and boundaries." My heart skipped a beat, fearing he'd discovered my secret, but instead, he started lecturing me about the importance of focusing on my studies and not getting distracted by parties and boys. I nodded, pretending to listen, but my mind was elsewhere, wondering when I would see Sphesihle again and if she would still be interested in me. Little did I know, our paths would cross sooner than I thought...
As I lie in bed, my phone buzzes with a w******p message from Sphesihle, the girl I met at the park. We exchange morning greetings, and I'm surprised she's online so early. She asks me out on an ice cream date at the park, and I don't hesitate - I want to spend more time with her. After a quick shower, I throw on some comfortable clothes and head to the park to wait for her. The crisp morning air and birdsong are a perfect accompaniment to my excitement.
When Sphesihle arrives, we hug awkwardly, and I'm relieved she's finally here. We walk to the ice cream parlor in comfortable silence, lost in our own thoughts. As we browse the flavors, Sphesihle recommends her favorite, and I choose a matching cone. We stroll out of the parlor, licking our cones in unison. As we cross the road, we hold hands, and I feel a spark of electricity.
As we continue our walk, Sphesihle confesses she likes me, and I'm speechless. We laugh, talk, and enjoy our ice cream, playing hide-and-seek among the trees. As the sun sets, casting a warm orange glow, Sphesihle walks me home, and we stand at the corner, still chatting. I hug her, kiss her forehead, and bid her goodbye, running back home with a smile.
As I turn to leave, Sphesihle calls out, "Hey, wait up!" I turn back, curious. "What's up?" I ask. Sphesihle hesitates, looking around nervously. "Can I ask you something?" she asks. "Sure, what is it?" I reply, my curiosity piqued. Sphesihle takes a deep breath. "Would you like to meet up again sometime? Maybe grab some ice cream again or something else?" My heart skips a beat. I can't believe Sphesihle is asking me out!
"Yeah, that sounds great," I say, trying to sound casual. Sphesihle grins, looking relieved. "Awesome! I'll text you, and we can plan something?" I nod, feeling excited. I feel a sense of connection with Sphesihle, i can't wait to see her again and explore where this new friendship might lead."
As I arrive home, I notice that my parents are still at work, but my sister, Ezo, is already there. We exchange a warm greeting, and I ask her about her day. She tells me about her busy schedule at school, and I listen attentively.
Since our parents aren't home yet, we decide to work together to prepare dinner. Ezo suggests making pasta with marinara sauce, and I agree. We head to the kitchen, and I start boiling the water while Ezo begins chopping the vegetables. We chat and laugh as we work, enjoying each other's company.
As we cook, I tell Ezo about my ice cream date with Sphesihle. She listens with interest, asking questions and making supportive noises. I appreciate her enthusiasm and encouragement.
Once the pasta is ready, we sit down to eat together. We savor the delicious flavors and share stories about our day. It's a lovely moment of sibling bonding, and I feel grateful for our close relationship.
Just as we're finishing up, our parents arrive home from work. They ask about our day, and we fill them in on our activities. Mom notices that I seem particularly happy and asks if anything special happened. I hesitate for a moment before mentioning my ice cream date with Sphesihle. Mom and Dad exchange a knowing glance, and Mom asks if I'd like to talk about it.
I decide not to mention my ice cream date with Sphesihle to my parents, knowing that my father might not approve of me dating another girl. I keep it to myself and head to bed, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness about what the future might hold.
The next morning, I wake up feeling refreshed and eager for a new day at school. I can't wait to see my friend Asiphe and share all the details of my adventure with her. I get dressed and head to the kitchen for breakfast, feeling a sense of anticipation and joy. Today is going to be a great day!
