Unexpected turns

The host announced Lungi's name, and Qhawe and I collected her certificate on her behalf. I gave a speech, still emotional about her passing, but hopeful that the wound will heal with time. Rest in peace, Lungi Solani. Just as the ceremony was ending, the host called my name, and I rushed to the stage to receive my reward for achieving 90% in author and art studies. I dedicated it to my grandma in heaven, promising her a good life. After the ceremony, mom and I stopped at the garage for KFC supper. Later, in our w******p group, we celebrated our achievements and planned to meet at the restaurant the next day to celebrate. The next morning, I woke up to a beautiful summer day, cleaned the house and myself, and enjoyed breakfast. I met my friends at the park, and we paid our respects to Lungi before heading to the restaurant. We enjoyed our meal, went to the mall, and bought matching outfits, sneakers, and jewelry to commemorate our friendship. As we walked through the mall, arm in arm, I felt a sense of joy and gratitude wash over me. We had been through so much together, and to see us all thriving and celebrating our achievements was truly special. After a few hours of shopping, we decided to head to the park again, this time with our new outfits and a playlist of our favorite songs. We danced and sang along, laughing and joking, and for a moment, it felt like Lungi was still with us, her spirit alive in our memories and our celebration. As the sun began to set, we settled down on a blanket, watching the stars twinkle to life in the night sky. We shared stories and secrets, our bond stronger than ever, and I knew that no matter where life took us, our friendship would endure. As we said our goodbyes and headed home, I felt a sense of peace wash over me. We had honored Lungi's memory, celebrated our achievements, and cemented our friendship. And as I drifted off to sleep that night, I knew that tomorrow would bring new adventures, new challenges, and new opportunities to make memories with the people I loved. NARRATED BY HLALUMINATHI "The next morning, I woke up feeling refreshed and inspired. I reached for my phone and saw a text from Siphesihle: 'Good morning, beautiful. I hope you're ready for today's adventure.' My heart skipped a beat as I wondered what she had planned. I quickly got dressed and met her at the park. She was beaming with excitement, and I couldn't help but catch her enthusiasm. 'Today, we're going on a road trip!' she announced, holding up a map. 'We'll drive along the coast, enjoy the scenery, and make new memories together.' I squealed with delight, feeling grateful for this new chapter in my life. As we set off on our journey, I knew that this was just the beginning of a lifetime of love, laughter, and adventure with the people I loved most." As we drove along the coast, the wind in our hair and the sun on our faces, I felt alive and free. We sang along to our favorite songs, laughed, and chatted, enjoying each other's company. We stopped at scenic spots, took photos, and soaked in the breathtaking views. As the day wore on, we arrived at a beautiful beachside town, where Siphesihle had booked a cozy little cottage for us to stay in. We spent the evening walking along the beach, watching the sunset, and sharing stories. As night fell, we built a bonfire, roasted marshmallows, and gazed up at the starry sky. Siphesihle took my hand, and I felt a spark of electricity run through my body. We talked about our dreams, our fears, and our aspirations. As the night wore on, we decided to take a walk along the beach, enjoying the peacefulness of the night. The only sound was the waves crashing against the shore and our own footsteps. We walked hand in hand, feeling grateful for this moment, for each other, and for the beauty of life. As we walked, Siphesihle turned to me and said, "I'm so glad we're doing this, Hlalu. I feel like we're exactly where we're meant to be." I smiled, feeling my heart full of joy and love. "Me too, Siphesihle. Me too." We walked a little further, and then Siphesihle stopped and turned to me. She looked into my eyes, and I saw a deep connection there, a sense of belonging. And then, she leaned in and kissed me, softly and gently, under the stars. I felt like time had stopped, like the whole world had come to a standstill. All that mattered was this moment, this kiss, and the love we shared. As we pulled away, gasping for air, I smiled up at Siphesihle and said, "I love you." She smiled back, her eyes shining with happiness, and said, "I love you too, Hlalu." And as we stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, I knew that this was just the beginning of our love story, a story that would last a lifetime. As the night came to an end, we said our goodbyes and headed home around 10pm. We were both tired but happy, still smiling about our day together. I went to my house, and Siphesihle went to hers, already looking forward to our next meeting. We texted each other "goodnight" and drifted off to sleep, feeling grateful for their friendship and love."I walked into the house, and my dad furiously asked where I came from. My mom quickly intervened, explaining that I was at a party with friends. But my dad's anger turned towards my mom, and he slapped her. I was shocked and heartbroken, feeling like my love for him had ended. Ezo was watching, and we both burst into tears. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. From now on, I saw my dad as a dead person; my love for him was gone. Mom went to bed in tears, deciding to sleep in the guest room to avoid more drama. The next day, Ezo, Mom, and I went to church, leaving Dad behind. I didn't care what he did; I was done with him. The preacher's words resonated with me, and I found myself crying again. I was hurt, and my dad's words had ruined my life. I felt sorry for my mom, who had loved a man who turned out to be a monster. After church, we returned home, and Dad had made dinner, maybe as a way of saying sorry. But dinner couldn't remove the pain in my heart. Mom served him divorce papers, explaining that she couldn't take his abuse anymore. He pleaded with her, but she was firm. She had already signed the papers and told him to sign or face the consequences. I started my final exams, but my mind was preoccupied with my family situation. I tried to focus on my future, but it was hard. After the exam, Siphesihle tried to talk to me, but I wasn't ready and avoided her. I knew she felt hurt, but I wasn't okay either." After school I went home, feeling emotionally drained from the day's events. I couldn't believe my parents were getting divorced, and my dad was the reason. I felt angry and hurt, and I didn't know how to process my emotions. I went to my room, locked the door, and cried. I cried for my parents, for my family, and for the life we once had. I tried to focus on my coming up English paper 2 but it was hard. My mind kept wandering back to my family situation, and I couldn't concentrate. I knew I had to try, though, for my own sake and for my future. So, I pushed through the pain and tried to focus on my studies. My mom and dad were living in separate rooms, and the tension in the house was palpable. I knew I had to talk to them, to try and make sense of everything. I went to my mom's room, and we talked for hours. She told me about her struggles, about how my dad had changed and become abusive. She told me about her fears and her hopes, and I listened, trying to understand. I felt sorry for her, for the pain she had endured, and I knew I had to support her.
