Ellie EllieI stared at my calendar, counting the days left until Sunday. Jo’s birthday. If things kept up like they were, this would be the first time we didn’t celebrate it together. With a sigh, I picked up my phone and stared at it. The picture of us two in the background stared back at me, mockingly. When did I become so passive that I was waiting for the phone to ring? Jo was my best friend and I wasn’t giving up without a fight. In a flash of determination, I scrolled through my contact list and pressed call. The line rang. Once. Once.Twice. Twice.Maybe she was busy… Thrice. Thrice.Was she ignoring me? She always picked up immediately. Just when I was about to hang up, the line crackled. “Hello?” “Hi. It’s me. Ellie…” Jo chuckled. “I know, I do have your number saved.”
