Chapter 5: Tell me Esme noticed the stares and whispers that were thrown all around her immediately she stepped into the cafeteria. It was normal to have so many eyes on her but never all at once. The news of her small drama in class had spread so much. “You should not mind them,” Kyle said from behind her. Startled, she turned to face him. “How long have you been there for?” she whispered. “A while now.” He said and walked past her, gaining the attention of the rest of the student body. Esme watched Kyle move with such an intensive yet mysterious aura that made everyone stare at him so intently. “Esme!!!” her eyes moved towards the table where her friends were seated. She broke out into a smile and moved towards them and sat where she normally would. “How was it?” “I heard you were given a big shot. Is that true?” “Did you actually see something?” someone else asked with all their eyes watching her face expectantly. Esme tried to control her body language, not to give anything away. After Lucy’s warning, she wasn’t going to open her mouth and start blabbering about what actually happened. “I am fine, thank you for asking.” She said softly. “I wasn’t given any big shot and no, whatever you heard about me seeing something is just a fallacy.” She answered, her eyes sweeping over every single one of them. At that same moment, she locked eyes in contact with Kyle, who sat alone by himself at the table just opposite theirs. Her friends seemed to have noticed and turned around quickly to stare at the boy behind them who was drinking his red grape juice. They turned around quickly with knowing smiles on their faces. “So... the new guy, he’s so hot.” Ashley, one of the blonde girls squealed, which made Esme roll her eyes, typical Ashley. “I definitely agree.” Another of the girls said. “Me three.” “Where is Jason, by the way?” She murmured. After leaving the nurse's office, Jason had escorted her back to her last class, telling her that he would see her during lunch and now he wasn’t even there yet. “Their they are.” Ashley pointed towards the door as Jason and his small entourage walked in the cafeteria like they owned the place. The squeals in the cafeteria got louder and annoying for Esme, as this was something that happened all the time. Jason stepped in with his small boy group. They were all handsome guys who were tall, had great eyes and hair and smelled like heaven. Not only that they had a sphere of influence that everyone in this school desired to have. “Hey babe.” He greeted falling into the seat beside Esme and placed a kiss to her cheeks which made everyone aw in their seats. Sometimes she got sick of how people romanticized their relationship for them, she agreed that Jason was the sweetest boy ever but never imagined him to be as perfect as they all saw him. “Would you look at them?” One of the guys Owen said rolling his eyes at them as he wrapped his arms around one of the girls. “The sweetest thing ever.” “Shut up Owey, it’s not like your relationship is not as perfect as those two.” Peter said to him and the rest of the crew laughed at the nickname. “Stop calling me that Pete or else I’ll tell everyone your middle name.” Owen threatened. “Real mature, O. Real mature.” Peter rolled his eyes at him. Esme felt a pair of eyes on her as she laughed and watched the boys bicker between themselves. She couldn’t help but stare back at the eyes that were on her, Kyle. She had to talk to him and figure out what he knew about those ‘things’. “What are you so engrossed in?” Jason whispered in her ears, pulling her back to him. His eyes followed hers and a frown crossed his face which made Kyle give him a broad grin. Jason was not having any of it and pulled her face to his, placing his lips on hers. The table broke out into constant ‘oohs’ and ‘aww’ from their friends and most of the student body who were paying attention to them. Esme’s eyes landed on Kyle, whose face was sort of in an emotion she couldn’t tell. She felt Jason’s grip on her face tighten as he tried to keep her focused on him, her eyes closed shut at the intensity of the kiss as she felt his tongue plunge deeper inside her mouth. His other hand on her waist also squeezed tighter, making her wince in pain. “Ja…” she tried to pull away but he didn’t let her go. Deciding to try another method, she used her fingers to pinch his hands on her waist, which seemed to work as he hissed into her mouth, pulling away slowly from the kiss. “What the hell?” He muttered so that only she could hear him. She finally looked him in the face. “You’re hurting me.” she whispered to him and his creased eyebrows straightened out. “What… I’m sorry Babe. I didn’t mean to, I just got too carried away.” He whispered in her ears. “It’s fine.” She said, passing him a small smile. “I need to go to the washroom, I’ll be back soon.” She said, sliding out of the seat. “Do you want us to come with you?” Ashley asked, staring at her. “No, I’m fine. I won’t be staying long.” She assured them, walking out of the room without turning back to face the burning gaze of the two pairs of eyes she was trying to avoid. Opening the bathroom door, she was glad that the place was empty and rushed to the mirrors. She pushed her jacket out of the way and pulled out her inner shirt, revealing her bare skin. A loud gasp escaped her lips as her eyes stared at her skin, which now had a black hand imprinted on her side.
