Chapter 6: Behind closed doors “Need help with that?” her head snapped upwards to the mirror where her eyes met with Kyle. “What are you doing in here? This is the girl’s bathroom?” she queried, allowing her shirt to drop back down. “Don’t worry no one will come in here.” he replied confidently, taking a step closer to her. “Why are you here?” she repeated again, but he ignored her, reaching to where she was, he extended his hands to her shirt and she grabbed his hands, stopping him from doing anything else. “What the hell?” she frowned at him. “Can you let me see?” he asked politely. “You should’ve asked before trying to raise my shirt.” She scolded. Kyle raised his brows at her, waiting for her to answer his request. "Do you mind? I'm not sure I want a strange boy to be looking at my skin?" she stated. "Just trying to help." he raised his palms up in surrender. “I can do it myself.” She said, pushing his hands away and slowly lifting up her shirt. Kyle leaned in closer to where the black imprint was as he inspected it. For some reason, she didn’t feel so self-conscious about showing off her body to a random guy she had just met. “It was from his touch, wasn’t it?” he asked, glancing up at her. Her eyes met with his and she nodded slowly, looking away. “How is it possible?” she asked, staring at him through the mirror. “Well, I’m not sure you want to hear the answer to that.” He said, standing up to his full height, making him tower over her. “What exactly do you know?” she asked him. “You ask very vague questions.” He replied, shoving his hands into his pockets. They were standing a few feet away from each other and she could inhale his rich wooden scent. “It doesn’t make sense.” She said, fully turning to the mirrors as she clutched both sides of the sink. “None of what happened today makes any sense, now Jason’s hands on my body leave this weird imprint. I just need someone to tell me what the hell is going on.” She chuckled nervously, throwing her head backwards. “Soon, when the time is right, you’ll get the answers you need.” Kyle answered beside her and she turned to him. He leaned down to her height, moving in closer to her ears and whispered, “You shouldn’t worry too much. It doesn’t look great on you.” She gasped when his large hands gently touched her waist where the imprint was, a surge of emotions ran through her as it dawned on her that he was touching her. The pain she felt seized and it made her eyes widen. Kyle moved back so that he could face her with a small smile on his lightly red lips. “That should do it.” He said, with his hands still on her waist. He stared at her eyes. “What- “the knock on the door shut her off. “Is anybody in there?” a voice asked from outside the door while they twisted the knob which seemed to be locked. Esme’s gaze moved from the door to Kyle. “You need to leave.” She whispered gently, her hands touching his own which were still on her waist, but Kyle didn’t budge, his smile only getting wider and wider. “Is there anybody in there? I really need to use the bathroom.” The distressed voice said again, twisting the knob more frequently, and Esme yelled out in anxiousness. “Yes, just give me a sec.” she said, pushing past Kyle towards the door. She turned back to him to give him one last glance before she opened the door. The red-haired girl rushed in and camped inside one of the cubicles. “Sorry.” Esme muttered as she stepped out of the bathroom to check if there was any one else coming before she could find Kyle. Her eyes caught the tall figure leaning on the side of the wall opposite the bathroom. “How did you?” she stuttered when she noticed his broad smile. “I have my ways.” He grinned at her. She stepped closer to where he was with her hands folded across her chest. “Are you a ghoul?” she whispered to him and he raised his brows at her. “Oh? No, certainly nothing like those lowlifes,” he commented. The loud chattering from the corner got her attention and her eyes widened when she realized that they belonged to Jason and Ashley. “Seems like a lover boy can’t wait.” Kyle grinned at her. “Quick, this way!” she pulled his hands with her as they skid through the hall where she opened the small door and pushed him inside. When she was about to close the door, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her inside with him, closing the door gently behind her. “What the hell?” she whispered, pressed against his body in the small janitor’s closet. “If you don’t want them to hear you, then you should stay quiet.” Kyle whispered in her ears. “What is going on, Castiel?” She heard Ashley ask. Who the hell is Castiel? She asked herself. “It’s like her true nature is coming forth.” She heard Jason say to Ashley. Was Castiel a third person with them? she thought. “And the new kid is not just any kid,” Jason added. Esme could hear the frustration in his voice. “He’s one of those top tier demons.” Esme’s eyes widened in fear at Jason’s revelation. Just how much did they know? How did he know so much about Kyle? Kyle. She remembered that she was locked up with the guy who they had just identified as a top tier demon. She was locked in a janitor’s closet with a demon! “Don’t.” she heard him whisper in her ears. Nodding slowly, she calmed her breathing, pressing her fingers inside her palms. “What are you going to do about him?” Ashley asked. “Nothing, until I am given an instruction to engage.” Jason said. “What about Esme?’ “Keep an eye out for her,” Jason said. “We are not yet certain if she’s the one.” “You just said that her powers are coming to light and you don’t want to do anything about it?” Ashley said, annoyed. “We clearly saw her face after you left the markings on her waist. If she was not the one, it wouldn’t leave a mark.” she added. “Ashley, can we not talk about this here?” Jason said, his voice filled with frustration. “Fine. I don’t think she’s here. She must’ve gone to the field.” Ashley said, and they walked away. Esme had her heart in her throat because of what she had heard from the two people she trusted the most. “I don’t think going out there is such a great idea.” He said, pulling back gently to stare at Esme, who was shaking. “Oh great.” He muttered, using his hands to tilt her head upwards to meet his gaze. “Do us a favour and don’t scream.” He said and she frowned, wondering what he was talking about, until the next thing she saw was the darkness.
