Chapter 33

Alpha Angelique was still in a daze when she met with Serio and Conor. She was still thinking about what she felt yesterday when she woke up from her nap.  “We already contacted them yesterday and now we are going to get her. We are ready to depart now, Alpha!” Serio said with a small bow and followed by Maria, his wife.  Angelique got back to her senses and remembered that the moment for them to retrieve Serio’s granddaughter, Cinna, had come. Maria, Serio, and a trained warrior from Serio’s pack before will go there to take the kid. They have to before the king found out about the young girl and took her. Her power of healing is strong that the King will fancy having.  “Did you bring all the things you needed?” She was talking about the proof that they’re the family of the kid. They’re almost the same in features but it was better to have some paper to prove that they’re family.  “Yes, Alpha. I brought the only heirloom we have left after the King took them. Also, our clan produces a birthmark that is only for us. It is also our identification.” Angelique nodded in satisfaction. It won’t be a problem anymore if they have that.  Angelique thought that she had way more things needed to accumulate to know all her pack members. It was not just being an Alpha and enjoyed ordering them but also knowing your people.  “Okay. Please, be careful. We don’t know what's in there or in your way.”  “We will, Alpha!” They bowed down to their Alpha with full gratitude. Without her, maybe they were dead already for lack of food.  Before, they were afraid to get out of their territory because they were afraid of being ambushed. They were too weak to fight if they encountered an enemy. They didn’t know about humans and believed their King, so they’re afraid to go there. They only get their food in the forest because their land was so dry because of the lack of rain. They thought they were cursed, but in the end, it was just their incompetence. They just needed a person to wake them up. That person is their Alpha now, Angelique.  They all went out, wearing rugs and their bag that only had three fruits and the heirloom. They wore it as a disguise because everyone outside their pack knew they were suffering.  They didn’t know why the owner of the orphanage agreed with their request all of the sudden. Serio had a bad feeling about this but he believes everything has a reason.  Every person they walked through, looked at them with disdain and some with pity. They looked like a homeless person. Serio wanted to sneer but he held it back because someone might hear it.  They needed to walk an hour or two before they arrived at the orphanage. On their way, they met some of their pack members who left to survive the famine of their land.  “Where are you living now?” he curiously asked Serio. Serio was just an Elder and they were waiting for another Alpha to emerge but it seems there was still none. Their Alpha was chosen not from their bloodlines like the Lycan and Rose.  “We moved a little to the east near the entrance of our land because there’s a water supply there and the trees were bearing fruits. So far, it has fed us since we’re just a small family.” The man felt sorry for them but she couldn’t just break their belief so he didn’t say anything.  “How about the center?” They all lived in the center before, when everything was still abundant.  “We are still trying to bring it back to life. A few days ago, the rainwater started to pour. We are hoping it will continue so we can plant vegetables again.” He smiled because he saw new hope for them. Even though they moved, they still love their homeland. It felt different than the other land.  “Please, tell us if you need help. If it progresses, we still want to go back home. Is it possible?” Serio smiled at the man. He felt happy that they were still a Fang Family.  “I will. You are all welcome there.” “Thank you, Elder!” he said with a small bow to show his respect.  “We have to go now. I need to get my granddaughter to the orphanage.” Serio smiled, showing how happy he was. But the man stopped smiling, and something flashed in his eyes.  “Okay. Bye for now.” Serio just waved and continued on their journey.  “I don’t like his expression. He seemed to know what was happening.” Serio looked at her wife when she spoke.  “I felt it too. But we just have to believe in our Alpha. Everything will be alright.” Maria just sighed and nodded. They just have to take their granddaughter and Alpha will do everything from there.  They passed through the city where the King resided. It was well-off but not like them. They were still using old materials like wood and stone, while they already used cement and sand that were stronger than this.  Many vendors were present and their food was way more pricey than on Guslar. They looked around a little to conduct a survey. Alpha also told them to look for the thing they can sell so they have Arcadia money. They could use it inside Arcadia when they needed to buy something. The orphanage was a little outskirt so they needed to walk a little more before they got there. It was small and a little dirty. Not a good place for kids to live.  “Hello! Anybody’s home?” Serio called then an obese woman emerged from the house.  “Yes? Who are you and who are you looking for?” she asked them and snickered when she saw their clothes.  “I am Serio Fang. Is this the orphanage where Cinna Fang was?” he asked. The woman flipped her hair and walked inside the house.  “Get in here and take that dirty girl out of here. It made my place smell awful!” she said with full of disgust.  Serio and his companion were confused at first until they saw Cinna’s condition. Maria cried when she saw her condition. She was full of wounds and her skin was deteriorating already. They needed to bring her to the doctor.  “What happened to her? Who did this?” Maria asked while crying. She rampaged her bag, looking for the medicine Alpha gave her last night. It was a herbal medicine and she decocted it.  “I don’t know. She was brought here like that. I can’t just throw her away because she’s still alive and it was against the rule. So, I was thankful that you came. Just take her with you.” It showed that the woman never cared for Cinna. They’re just a lowly peasant in their eyes after all.  “Serio, help me. She needs to drink this. It will help her relieve pain so we can carry her.” Serio followed her wife while the man prepared a big blanket so he could carry her.  The woman just looked at them. She never asked for verification, all she wanted was to get rid of her. Husband and wife helped the young girl before the stronger young man carried her with full care. “Thank you!” The woman just nodded and looked at them. She believed that the girl would not live again. At least, it didn’t die in her orphanage because it would tarnish her reputation.  The three of them walked faster. The young girl needed immediate medical assistance. But they didn’t believe in the doctor here, especially because they won’t help them because of their appearance. They could heal their granddaughter because they were healers but not in front of many people.  They knew that the White Fang Pack was powerless since they didn’t have an Alpha. They all got their strength to their Alpha, without it they’re useless.  They walked faster so they could be home before it’s too late. They were nervous, angry, and sad about what happened to their only immediate family member.  When they got home, everything was prepared like they already knew what was happening. Grace, Conor’s doctor daughter-in-law, was there to assess them. The Fangs were already making some rituals for healing.  Grace and her assistant cleaned the young girl and scanned her for any internal damage. When they were sure that everything was functioning, they attended to her wounds. They put an IV drip on her and then injected other medicine. While the medical team was doing their best, the Fangs continued with their rituals. They were amazed because the wound of the child slowly disappeared, but it also took some toll on them so Angelique made them stop. The doctor did what was needed to finish.  “The girl is fine now,” she told Serio and Marie who just stopped crying. Angelique didn’t make them join the ritual because it might be a disaster. After all, they’re emotionally unstable.  “When will she wake up?” Maria asked with tears, that she suppressed to fall,  in her eyes.  “We couldn’t tell at the moment. But she was not on the brink of death anymore.” The doctor smiled at them in assurance.  “Thank you, Doctor!” She just nodded and left them. They saw the Alpha approaching them so they bowed down for respect.  “Don’t worry. Everything will be fine.” She looked at them. “For now, while she’s recuperating, you have to make a tomb near the east house. If someone asks, tell them she died.” They nodded in agreement and did what they were told. They didn’t question her because they knew that whatever she was doing, it was all for them.  Conor accompanied her daughter home while Serio did what Angelique said. While the Alpha stood on the side of the bed where the young girl was lying. She felt pity for her but admired her for being strong. If it was another child, she might already be dead. She had a strong will to live.  Her hair was black and her skin was a little pale because of the lack of nutrition in her body. She thought Fangs have white hair, she never knew why hers was black.  “When she regains her power, her hair will turn beautiful white,” a small girl at the door said. It was Rea who was peeking again.  “Just come in,” Angelique said without a glance at Rea. “Why are you here? How’s training?” “I just want to look at the girl. Pink helped me with my training.” Alpha didn’t answer her so silence filled the whole room. “You have a month to prepare for another target. They were looking for him already but his parents are good at hiding him. Exposing him this early might cause them death.” Alpha nodded at Rea.  Rea just smiled then left her. Sometimes, Rea might act like an adult but she was just a young girl who could see the future. She took it seriously, that’s why she was mature at times.  Angelique touched the forehead of a sleeping girl. From her fingertip, light emitted from it and got inside Cinna’s body. It was an Alpha acknowledging the young girl as a member. With this, it brought back a small amount of energy inside the young girl’s body.  “Cure yourself and wake up. Your grandparents are still waiting for you.” Then she left after saying this.  Angelique felt nice knowing she saved a life but somewhere inside she felt that something was missing. She didn’t know what but she felt it.
