Chapter 37

Angelique didn’t have any more time to go back home and arrange her people. She just sent a message through their link to notify them.  She never knew that the event would be happening sooner than later. She was prepared but not for today.  She went into the center, where the palace stood up. She sneaked into the forest nearby and looked around. She didn’t have any idea where she was but this forest was the best choice to escape.  Her instinct never ceased to amaze her. Not far away, she saw the woman in her conservative clothes running away from the palace guard. Angelique could see blood in her shoulder and stomach.  She didn’t know if she could hear her but she spoke inside her head. The spirit used it when she called her a while ago.  “Go to the forest. I will help you there.” Seemed it work because the woman ran inside the forest.  Angelique’s eyes got wider when she saw what was happening. The real owner of the body was already unconscious because of blood loss and the one who’s controlling it was the spirit. But she could see that she was losing consciousness too. Angelique needed to move now.  The moment the woman stepped foot in the forest, Angelique pulled her and engulfed both of them in a barrier. They crunched down to hide from the guard who was after the woman.  The time she was held by Angelique, she fainted. Blood was still spelling out of her fresh wound. Angelique’s eyes darken when she smelled something aside from blood. She never knew what happened but for sure it was not good.  “Where did that woman go?” one of the men chasing her asked. His pants was still open and a scratch from a claw was visible on his face. Angelique had the slightest idea what happened.  “Why did you do that? If the King knew what you did to his favorite concubine, he will kill you,” said another one. He was sniffing the surroundings, detecting where the woman was.  “No, he will not. He gave her to me as a gift for the job I did for him. He was tired of that woman’s every whim. If she didn’t have any use for the King, she would have died long ago. Like her mother that the King killed last night when she tried to help her escape.” He grinned.  “That’s why she gave her to you. What a lucky bastard!” Another one complemented and laughed along with the boastful man.  “Let’s look for her. We can’t let her escape, especially since the King still needs her.” They all nodded and looked everywhere inside the forest.  Angelique couldn’t afford to hear what they said. Even imagining what happened to the woman in her arm, range squeezing her heart.  “Stay here. I will be back!” she said then covered her with dry leaves.  She didn’t have any weapon with her but she could use her claw while not transforming into her werewolf form. She didn’t bring her mask, so she tore a piece of her clothes and used it to cover her face.  There were only five of them, an easy kill for her. But she still needed to move silently so no one would hear. As far as she’s concerned, they were still near the palace and someone might hear them.  She used her senses and detected where they were. One was on her left, two were on her right and her front. She chose to kill the closest to her.  There were two of them and they were slow because they were talking. She swiftly moved to them using the trees. It was thick and it was a little hard to move above but she still managed to reach their position without any noise being made.  “Really? He said that?” A guy holding a machete looked excited. They’re both masculine but it’s nothing for Angelique. Conor was bigger than them.  “Yeah. He will share the girl if we find her.” Angelique gritted her teeth when she heard it. There’s no need for second thoughts now. She will kill them all.  She opened her palm then her hand became hairy and her nails became longer, harder, and sharper. It can even cut steel, how about people? Her speed was no par with others, so she could easily execute the killing.  “Too bad! You can’t do it anymore,” she whispered and made sure that the two of them could hear.  They stiffened hearing the voice of a woman. They were surprised at first but it changed into a grin when they realized it was just a woman.  “Oh! You wanna have fun, woman? Come out now and let’s have some fun.” The man with the machete taunted her but for Angelique, it was nothing.  Angelique didn’t wait any longer and attacked them. She had to kill them before they called for help.   The other three were also going back. She remembered the woman who was wounded and defenseless.  She leaped out of the tree and attacked them. They were not prepared so they couldn’t defend themselves when Angelique slit their throat.  “Tsk! Useless!” she mumbled with full disdain in her voice.  She jumped back to the tree and went to the next target. Another two people were in her front a while ago, and they seemed to be on alert and stronger than those first two.  Angelique didn’t talk anymore and tried to kill them. But they’re good because they easily stopped her attacks. They put distance between them so she couldn’t easily attack them.  They tried to send a warning signal to the palace but they could not send it. Something was stopping them, and they didn’t know it was Angelique. She made a barrier that even the sound waves couldn’t come out.  “Who are you?” He was nervous but he hid it so well.  “A friend,” she simply said then attacked them.  One was carrying a rapier while the other one was a longsword. The longsword man has a heavy hit that made Angelique’s hand numb a little but it was not enough to cut out her nails.  “Tsk! Hassle!” She wanted to come out of her shell, become a werewolf, but they’re not that important for her to use it.  She closed her eyes and controlled her breathing. When she opened it, she just vanished in front of them.  They were surprised that made them alert in any attack. But the one carrying rapier didn’t expect that a hand would appear in her back and cut her throat. Blood oozed from his wound. He let go of her weapon and held his wound, trying to stop the blood but no use. He just dropped like a sack of potatoes. She attacked the other one but he was stronger. He’s the one who was sniffing the woman’s scent a while ago. He’s smarter than the man who received a gift from the King, the last guy.  Angelique stopped, with distance away from each other, guard still on.  “I like you. But unfortunately, you chose the wrong side.” She showed her hand holding the rapier now. It may be no upper hand for longsword, but she’s not Lily for nothing.  “Fool! You are the one on the wrong side.” He attacked his opponent with full force but she just dodged it and could easily inflict wounds on the guy.  She just wanted to look for his scale but it was still useless. Kevin was way better than him in using the longsword. He was nothing to the kids who chose this kind of weapon.  He attacked from above so Angelique slid to the right and avoided it. She swayed her hand with rapier and an instant the guy stopped.  Blood slowly flew from her neck to her chest. His eyes got wider before his knees gave up and he dropped. He died.  “One more,” she whispered, then went to the last one.  But she stopped when she felt that he was running away. He felt that something was wrong so he wanted to go back to the palace and report what happened.  “Not happening,” she said, then she twirled the rapier on her hand while running after him. In the right distance, she threw the rapier to the guy who was defenseless now. “What a coward!”  The coward dropped with a rapier stocked on his heart. His eyes got wider and blood flowed from her mouth.  They’re no other guards nearby. She could easily sneak out now.  She went back to the place where she left the woman. She was still unconscious and Angelique was a little anxious because her heartbeat slowed down.  Her clothes were already soaked with blood. She needed immediate attention.  She carried her in her arms, not minding the weight. She used her speed again to make it easier for her to arrive in the packhouse.  People were already waiting for her. While they were putting her on the bed, Maria was making a ritual already. With this, they can stabilize her condition while Grace is doing her work.  Grace never went home while her husband went home with their children. Conor called for her when Angelique told him to prepare the clinic.  Serio and Conor felt sad and infuriated when they heard the story from Angelique. With her condition, what Angelique heard was the truth. They never thought that the King she offered her life with would backstab her like that.  King was a great person everyone looked up to. But with the way their King lives and operates, he’s like the Lycan that monopolizes the pack they wanted.   “What will you do now, Alpha?” Conor asked her.  While the woman was having an operation, they chose to hold a meeting after their Alpha cleaned herself and changed clothes.  “I will talk to her after she recovers. For now, we will treat her. She helped me before, now we’re even.” She was just paying the debt she had with that woman. Now, she’s paid and even the interest was being paid.  “Okay. But we will stay alert.” Angelique nodded to Serio.  “Yes, please. Also, send someone to the city. One who can handle him/herself. Gather any news that will come out tomorrow. Also, bring me some herbs I will list down from the market. A low price herb will do. Use the small gold you got from the river.” Serio nodded and thought of someone he can do the errand.  “What will you do with the herbs?” Conor asked curiously. Ever since they have connections in Guslar, they also get their medicine there.  “There’s still medicine that can only be found here. I will use it on the wound after we remove the marking of the King into her skin. It will be painful, but with these herds, it will minimize the side effect of removing the mark.” Even concubines, the King, leave their marks on them so no one could touch what they own. “Okay. We will leave now!” Both of them bowed down before leaving Angelique behind. She leaned into her chair and closed her eyes. She massaged her temple because she felt a headache coming to the surface. “Big Sister,” a voice outside woke her up from the deep thinking.  She sat up straight and called who was outside. Kimberly’s face showed up that made Angelique remember the necklace she should have given to her on her eighteenth birthday. She wanted to pull it out and give it but it was not the right time.  “What can I do for you?” Kimberly walked inside and sat down on the chair in front of Angelique’s table.  “Did…” she didn’t know what to say so she looked up to Angelique. She was just patiently waiting for her to speak. She took a deep breath and stabilized her voice. “Did you see my sister?”
