Chapter 1
"Stop right there! Where did this nobody crawl out from? How dare you steal Miss Gallo's things?"
Stella Gallo's personal maid barked at me viciously before charging forward. I simply shifted to the side and let her miss.
"I'm an honored guest of the Leone family. Is this how the Leone family treats its guests?" I asked coldly.
Stella scoffed and immediately pulled out her phone to call Albert Leone, my fiancé.
The call went through almost instantly. A gentle voice filled with affection came from the other end. "What happened, sweetheart?"
"Albert, some shameless woman sneaked into your estate and claimed she was a guest of the Leone family. She even stole the ring you gave me!" Stella spoke in a sweet, pitiful voice, twisting the entire story into something else.
I had no interest in watching her put on such a ridiculous act, so I cut straight to the point.
"Mr. Leone, this is Barbara Coppola, your fiancée."
There was a brief silence on the other end. Albert seemed to be searching his memory for my name, but the next second, his voice turned cold.
"What fiancée? Anyone who enters the Leone family estate needs an invitation. Without one, it's considered trespassing."
Then his tone softened again.
"Stella, don't be upset. It's only a ring. I'll get you another one when I return."
How ridiculous!
The pigeon blood ruby on my hand was my parents' most precious keepsake, a symbol of their love. There was only one in the entire world. Yet to Albert, it was nothing more than a cheap little gift he could replace to make his childhood sweetheart happy.
While I was wondering if this engagement was still worth holding onto, Stella was already laughing like she had won some grand victory. She looked me over from head to toe, her eyes filled with contempt.
"You? Those clothes don't even have a designer label! Did you pick them up from some bargain bin? And you actually dare call yourself Albert's fiancée? That's the funniest thing I've heard all day!"
Everything I wore had been custom-made by designers who served European aristocratic families. Naturally, they didn't need loud labels screaming for attention. If Stella couldn't recognize that, I started wondering who exactly was pretending to be the noble one here.
After her ridiculous performance, I had completely lost the mood to admire the roses. I turned around to leave.
But Stella blocked my path.
"Didn't you hear what Albert said? Anyone entering the the Leone family estate needs an invitation. You claimed you were an honored guest, didn't you? So where is your invitation?"
I rolled my eyes and reached into my pocket, searching for it. My fingers found nothing. Only then did I remember my grandfather had said that we didn't need invitations when visiting the Leone family.
Stella immediately assumed I was exposed. Her smug smile grew wider as she laughed sharply.
"I knew it. You're a fake! Someone get over here! Take that ring off her hand, tie her up, and throw her out!"
I covered the ring with one hand, stepped back, and stared at her coldly.
A few servants approached me. They looked hesitant and quietly tried to warn me.
"Miss, please return the item to Miss Gallo. Otherwise, you won't even know what happens to you."
"That's right. This ring is the symbol of love between Mr. Leone and Miss Gallo. They grew up together. If Mr. Leone finds out, he won't forgive you."
"I saw it with my own eyes last time. Someone only stained Miss Gallo's dress, and the next day they were thrown into the ocean as fish food."
The servants' warnings only made Stella look even more triumphant.
"Did you hear that? Now apologize, put the ring on my finger yourself, then crawl out of here. Otherwise, your ending will be much worse than that person who ruined my dress!"
