The drop was long, and the breath shot out my lungs in a helpless shriek. We dropped down into the waters and instantly got pulled around by the currents. The water was icy cold, and I barely registered King Silas’ hand tightly clasped around mine, making sure we weren’t separated. I knew how to swim but I wasn’t the best swimmer. The only waters I was used to was the tiny lake down at the east side of the village near the mountains. There the water ran smooth upstream with little to no currents. I swam in it as a child and the visits to the lake with my parents got less and less frequent as I got older and had other things to do than spend time leisurely.
