Banana bread!
“f**k you Alison!!” Alison was bent over holding her stomach. She was laughing so hard she knew her mascara would be a mess, but she just couldn’t help it. Seeing a grown a*s woman having a temper tantrum like she was 5!! Well THAT was f*****g hilarious! ******Earlier in the day****** “I’m bored, and my tongue hurts!” Maddie was laying on her bed facing the ceiling as she whined. Her and Alison had been stuffing envelopes all morning for Maddie’s sisters upcoming wedding. “You should have used a sponge! Honestly there are like 300 f*****g envelopes, why do you insist on using your spit to seal all them ?” Alison sighed, while rolling her eyes and stuffing another invitation into an envelope. Maddie sat up and looked at her best friend who was sitting on the floor surrounded by piles of stationary. “These are PERSONAL invites! I mean how much more personal can it get then having my spit on each..and..every..one..of..them???” Maddie retorted, raising an eyebrow as Alison. Alison rolled her eyes and said “ I know you don’t give a s**t about your half sister, but suck it up buttercup, at least you’ll have your daddy’s full attention after the wedding?” See, While Maddie was partially an only child, Alison was one out of 5 siblings, and as the oldest, her parents relied a little too much on her help when it came to her younger sibling, and she absolutely hated it. Maddie’s half sister Bianca, was two years older than Maddie, but they didn’t share the same mother. Unlike Maddie, her sister Bianca had lived with her mom on the other side of town, and was only shown attention by their father now because she was marrying a lucrative business partner of his. Maddie’s dad had always been a ladies man and although he married Maddie’s mom 6 years before Bianca was conceive, he obviously didn’t pay attention at the part of the ceremony where he promised to always be faithful. Maddie was her mom’s miracle baby, she had given up believing she would ever become a mother..and then, Maddie finally happened. And as a result, she had been spoiled rotten from her first breath. Her father wasn’t particularly hands-on when it came to raising her, but he loved her dearly. When Maddie had turned 12 her mother got sick, and before her 14’th birthday, she had lost her mom to cancer. After that, Maddie grew up without a real parental figure, and as a result, she was use to doing things her way, and didn’t rely on other people for help, and even less for input. “Can we please take a break and do something else??” Maddie begged, getting off the bed and looking pleadingly at Alison who was cracking her stiff knuckles from stuffing so many envelopes. With deflation clear in her voice, Alison responded “Sure, what did you have in mind” Alison knew better then to assume they would get everything done in one sitting anyway, a strong Work ethic wasn’t one of Maddie’s many qualities. But! she loved her to death non the less. They had been friends ever since Maddie had decided they were BFF’s on their first day of kindergarten. Alison had been nervous, she and her parents had just moved to town back then, and she knew no one on her first day there. Maddie had instantly taken a liking to her, and even invited her home the very same day. And although Alison had been taken aback by the limo picking them up, and the Mansion in which Maddie lived in, Maddie was pretty down to earth, and didn’t care at all about flashy things. The two girls had very different personalities and upbringings, but they knew it had only made their friendship stronger. “We could bake? “ Alison suggested, she was use to cooking from home, and honestly money had been tight lately and Maddie always let her take stuff home whenever they cooked together. Maddie clasped her hands together and her eyes sparkled with excitement. If there was anything Maddie loved more than Alison, it was food!!! “I’m gonna make my famous banana bread!!” Maddie exclaimed, and Alison nodded. “Care to make it interesting” Maddie suggested, wiggling her eyebrows. “How” Alison sighed getting up from the floor, stretching her back and sighing as she heard a pop! “We both know you are the better cook Ali, but I’m certain that with this recipe, I got you beat missy” Maddison proclaimed while putting her hands on her hips triumphantly. Maddie continued “The rules are simple, we both make banana bread, and then find someone impartial to judge who’s is best.” Alison stuck her hand out saying “deal”, she knew this would be a easy win for her. To Alison’s horror Maddie spat in her hand before clasping it around Alison’s. “Ewwww!!! What the hell is that for, and how do you even have anymore spit left!!” Alison squealed, pulling her hand out of Maddie’s grasp and wiped it on her jeans. “THAT! is how you seal a deal” Maddie retorted smugly, while turning around and leaving the room. As they were cooking, Alison looked like a pro, the fact that she could cook with out getting interrupted by her siblings made everything so much easier. Maddie on the other hand had spilled flour on the floor, and almost burned the butter when melting it, but the end result had looked pretty good. Alison could definitely tell that Maddie had put a lot of effort into hers, but Alison’s, looked professionally made with a chocolate glaze to finish it off. They plated some bite size pieces and left the kitchen to find a willing judge. First they had found the gardener, he had picked Alison’s which made Maddie suggest best out of 3. Then the maid who was busy folding laundry, and again Alison’s had been picked as the favorite. “Best out of 5?” Maddie had said meekly, and Alison had complied. In a final attempt to not loose face, Maddie had knocked on her fathers office door, but when entering they saw that he was not alone. 3 men in suites had greeted them politely, and after Maddie had stated their business, all 3 men plus her dad, had agreed to sample the banana bread. All four had chosen Alison’s as the best, and although Maddie had kept her composure in front of them, she had kicked her paper wast basket after entering her room, and proceeded to scream into her pillow about how unfair the ruling was. Alison couldn’t contain her laughter, she knew that Maddie hated to loose, but after the whole spit incident, she was glad her friend had been taken down a peg. Maddie sat up and sighed, then opened her mouth and said “remind me to never make a bet about food, unless it is who can eat the most” Alison sat down beside her on the bed, put her am around her, padded her shoulder and said “I promise, but then you have to promise to never question my cooking skills again, I will forever be the greatest cook in the world, pinky promise?” Alison stuck her pinky out for Maddie to take. Maddie reluctantly raised her hand but then to Alison’s horror she spat on her pinky before hooking it around Alison’s finger. “What the hell is wrong with you Maddie!!! that is not how you do a pinky promise!!”” Alison wiped her hand on her jeans only to realize it was the same spot as she wiped last time, making a face of disgust she then wiped it on Maddie’s shirt instead while she whined “Remind me again why I’m friends with you??!?” Maddie snorted not caring about being used as a spit-towel and shrugged“ because you will never find a better, more loyal friend than me, plus, imagine how boring your life would be without me in it?” A mischievous grin formed on Maddie’s lips as she said the last part. Alison rolled her eyes, got down on the floor, picked up an envelope and retorted “just limit you spit to the dang envelopes and we’re good” handing Maddie the envelope and watching Maddie demonstratively lick the edges of it while glaring daggers at Alison.
