Sukey’s still sound asleep when I return to our suite. She's in Clara's cabin again. Clara and I discussed swapping Sukey for Kate so that Sukey could be near me, more for my sake than Sukey's. Sukey thinks Clara is her mother, of course. However, we decided it wouldn't be fair on Kate. She's my best friend, not Clara's, and might feel awkward sharing a cabin with Clara. Moira is pleased I'm back saying she's tired out and anxious to get to bed as she's on the early shift with the children next morning.
Kate is still awake reading her e-reader. She’s propped up against a pile of pillows and cushions. She's stolen all mine, the wretch. I snatch mine away from behind her back. She falls with a slump back onto her bed.
