35 Meredith : Las Palmas Sukey and I had an enjoyable day out in Las Palmas. We took a taxi from the dock straight to the beach where we spent most of the day. I asked the driver to take it slowly to give me a mini tour of the city. It's Spanish in style, of course. The pedestrian areas we skirted reminded me of Malaga—broad brick-paved expanses with palms and marble walkways. Given that it’s March, it wasn't too cold for Sukey to play in the sand. She made pies and ran up and down the beach finding kindly old aged pensioners to 'buy' them from her. We had a lunch of fish and chips at a restaurant on the esplanade before making our way to the Botanic Gardens. A tranquil place. Sukey was drooping by now so I found us a bench in a pretty sunken garden lined with palm trees and sub-tropi
