It was Thursday, my first day of being homeschooled. I was able to take two days off to recuperate from my first shift. My shift was more painful than most because with my shifted came the maturity of my magic. Now random things happen, like I was frustrated about doing homeschooling and I caught the kitchen on fire. So needless to say, my emotions needed to be in check at all times.
My dad got me up super early in the mornings to train outside in my human form. He said I need to be a strong human to have a strong wolf. I don’t think I have ever ran that much in my life. He wants to train me in wolf form, but we still haven’t found a location that is secluded enough that no one will see my white wolf. Jasmine is getting restless and frustrated, she wants out to run free. She is also a bit of a drama queen, but I absolutely adore her. She is quickly becoming like a sister to me.
While I was working on my last assignment for the day, a weird wind swirled in my house, then there was a loud bang. I ran downstairs to check on my mom. She wasn’t alone, there was a woman with her. She had really long brown hair, piercing brown eyes. She wore a Floral Kimono and a large necklace. I have never seen her before.
“Rose, I would like you to meet one of my oldest friends Milly, she is your godmother.” My mom said introducing us as if this was completely normal.
“Um, how did you get in here?” I asked the woman I now know is named Milly.
“Why a portal of course. I can’t tell you how happy I am to finally see you again. It has been so long.”
“You can create a portal anywhere?” I asked, she has a lot of magic in her. I can feel it. So I was curious as to what all she is capable of.
“Yes I can, and soon you will be able too. I know for a fact that your magic will definitely surpass me in no time.” She said with a kind smile. She really was a nice lady.
After a few minutes of silence she added, “I’m here to help you with your training. I will show up around this time everyday to help you learn how to use your magic.”
“What if I don’t want to use magic? I mean I already caught the house on fire, I don’t think I’m any good for this.” I replied, a little bit too coldly.
“Rose, it is okay to be a little afraid of your magic at first. Yes, you will accomplish great things, but you need training, it’s the only way you will be able to control your outbursts. I can and will help.” She said.
After she said that I felt great anger, I could feel the fire burning within me growing. Suddenly the island in the kitchen caught on fire. As quickly as it started, the fire went out. I knew it was because of Milly.
“How did you do that?” I asked her surprised, last time I started a fire, it almost consumed the whole kitchen and it wouldn’t die down until my dad was able to calm me down.
“With magic of course. Though it wasn’t as easy as I thought, you are certainly strong. You need to learn to control it soon before you lose control completely and turn dark. Training needs to start soon.”
“I don’t want to train, I just want my life back where I could go to school and be with my friends. I want my life back where I didn’t have to keep secretes all the time.” I cried out. I am sick of everyone talking about training, it’s all they talk about. My parents walk on eggshells and look at me with caution like I am going to combust at any moment.
“Rose don’t raise your voice to Milly, she is here to help.” My mom said, I can tell she is getting frustrated with my outbursts but I can’t help it anymore. I am so unhappy.
Milly raised her hand to stop my mom from continuing yelling at me.
“It’s okay to be upset and frustrated with your situation. But you need to train and learn. Whether you like this or not, this is your life now. There is no going back Rose. It is time to grow up. We are here to support you. Your parents have done an amazing job at sheltering you from the evil outside, maybe even a little too good of a job,” she chuckled. “But it still stands that you need to stop crying, move on.”
“So you think I am being a crybaby about all the weight on my shoulders?” I yelled as loud as I could at the lady. Who does she think she is!
“Yes I do. You weren’t there for the Great Battle. You didn’t lose all of the loved ones that the rest of us did. We lost our parents, lovers, and friends, dead bodies were everywhere. We lost our homes. Friends who survived were divided because we weren’t all the same anymore, we fought against each other. Now you have the power to help everyone and you are crying about it. Grow up you are a few days from eighteen.” She said getting upset at this point.
She was right, I had no right to be upset like I was. Milly carried a lot of sadness within her that I didn’t see before. I was so ashamed of how I have been acting. All I could do was say sorry and go back to my room.
I was upset about the hand I was dealt for sure, but I never once thought about what everyone else has been through or lost because of this. I needed to work on myself to be better. I was chosen for a reason and I have so many people who love me and want my help. More than that, there were thousands out there that needed my help.
I promised myself that I would train hard everyday and try to listen instead of fighting. I need to do this for everyone but for myself to prove that I can really do it. That the Moon Goddess didn’t make a mistake.
I wanted to listen to their conversation, I felt like they weren't telling me everything that they knew. I wasn't sure how to do that again though. Suddenly Jasmine's voice came into my head telling me to concentrate on what I wanted to do. Then it worked. I could hear them so clearly, just as if I was still standing next to them.
“Has she found her mate yet?” Milly asked in a concerned voice.
“No, we have no idea who it is. It is worrying me because what if its someone from a different pack and she has to move away? We cannot protect her then.” My mom said, I can tell she is about to cry.
“The Goddess wouldn’t do that to her most important child. I know who he is, I’ve seen it, but you know I cannot share. I was hoping they would meet before her outburst started. Her mate will be able to help her greatly. He will be able to help her train, calm her, but also help balance her. I hope he is here soon.” Milly said.
Who the hell is my mate? And how does Milly already know.” I whispered to myself quietly.
“I am a seer Rose.” Said Milly somehow hearing me. After that I shut my door and thought about everything she had said. Was I really ready for all of this?
