#musicvibe - Carolus Rex, Sabaton (there’s an English version of this song, but I listened to the Swedish one, either one works great) * Kayden POV I desperately tried to contain the emotions storming inside of me while I was trying to figure out what to do next. Should I mindlink Garrett and tell him? I stopped in my tracks when I realized something? If Tyson was affected by that woman, were there others too? Who could I trust to help me? I picked up my phone and pulled up Violet’s contact information. If Tyson got a chance to talk to his sister, maybe he could get out of whatever spell that woman had put him in. I frowned when I pressed the dial, but no signals were coming through. What the hell? I tried again and again, but somehow I couldn’t get any cell signal. My frown deepened when I realized that I didn’t have any cell signal or internet. I glanced behind me for a moment. Could that woman be behind this too? The whole pack was completely isolated with the borders closed and no way of contacting anyone outside. Maybe this was exactly what she wanted? No one knew what was going on here. Being unable to reach Violet, I only had one choice. Trying to talk to Garrett and Evy. As far as I knew, neither of them had been near Celeste like Tyson. I needed some allies here to figure this out. “Garrett.” I minlinked him. “Where are you guys?” “We’re training.” He replied. “You wanna join?” “Sure.” I said. “I’ll be right there.” I jogged over to the training grounds and found Garrett and Evy on a sparring mat together. “Hey.” Garrett grinned. “So are we on for London or what?” I shrugged. “Tyson has closed the border, so I don’t think we’ll be leaving anytime soon.” I replied quietly. Garrett and Evy both stared at me in shock. “What?” Garrett exclaimed. “And he didn’t tell us? What is going on?” I told them about Tyson’s weird behavior, how I found Valeria injured in the dungeon, the accusations that she was having an affair with Alex and Celeste getting so close to Tyson. For every word I spoke, Garrett and Evy looked more and more worried. “I knew something was wrong when Tyson told me that Valeria had left.” Evy whispered. “I should have questioned it.” “It’s Tyson, why would you have a reason to?” I replied. “So do we have a clue what that woman has done to him?” Garrett asked. “A spell?” “Probably.” I shrugged. “But I’ve never heard of this kind of powerful magic before.” “Me neither.” Garrett agreed. “So what do we do? Call Alex?” “I already tried that.” I replied. “I think Tyson shut down the cell service, I don’t have cell service or internet.” Evy and Garrett picked up their phones too and tried, but they didn’t have any cell signal either. “This is bad.” Garrett mumbled. “All pack members are to report to the front gates immediately.” Tyson’s mindlink was curt and I felt my stomach drop. “Urgh, what now?” Garrett muttered. “I think this is about to get worse.” I whispered. “Well yeah, usually he doesn’t make any pack announcements without talking to us first, and he’s been completely shut off today.” Garrett replied. We quickly made our way back to the castle and saw Tyson standing in front of the front gates with Celeste next to him. “I don’t like that woman.” Evy muttered. “Shh.” Garrett hushed her gently and took her hand. “You are all probably wondering why our network is down for the moment.” Tyson began. “And it pains me to tell you that we’re under attack.” Shocked gasps were heard throughout the crowd, and I saw people looking around in fear mixed with confusion. “Unfortunately, the alliance we recently created with the vampires have fallen through.” Tyson continued. “The vampires have set up camps close to the borders and cut off our network so that we can’t call for reinforcements. Unfortunately, the person that orchestrated this attack, is no other than our own queen.” Tyson bowed his head while the crowd looked more and more bewildered. “Valeria is under arrest and will be executed for treason.” Tyson announced. The crowd went silent, everyone staring at him in shock and horror. From the corner of my eye, I saw Evy’s eyes widen and her face paled. “You’re all dismissed.” Tyson concluded. Before anyone could say anything, he turned around and stormed back into the castle with Celeste following close behind him. I turned back to Garrett and Evy. “You see what I mean?” I whispered. “I see, I just can’t believe it.” Garrett replied. “Valeria would never betray Tyson, and there’s no way Tyson could execute her even if she did.” “So do we have a plan?” Evy asked. “I’m gonna do what Valeria asked of me.” I replied. “I’m the Beta, I’ll stay with the Alpha, even if it means playing into this whole charade for now.” Garrett nodded. “I’m the Gamma, so I’ll focus on Valeria.” He said. “I’ll help.” Evy added. “I’m her assistant.” Garrett shook his head. “I don’t want you to put yourself in danger.” He protested. “The whole pack is locked in, we’re all in danger.” Evy retorted. “And the person that is in the most immediate danger right now, is Valeria, and we have to help her.” I sighed. “None of our wolves are strong enough to challenge Tyson, and he can still use the Alpha command on all of us. You two, stay away from him as much as you possibly can, that way you won’t be controlled. I’m going to stay close to him and make sure that he doesn’t do anything stupid.” “Try to, you mean.” Garrett huffed. “If Tyson actually does something stupid, how are you going to stop him?” I opened my mouth to answer, but I didn’t know what to say. I couldn’t stop Tyson from doing anything even if I wanted to. “Then we leave to get help.” Evy said with determination. “The only person that could actually stand a chance against an Alpha like Tyson is Alex. We need him.” “That’s a death sentence, right there.” I replied. “Yes.” Garrett whispered. “Which is why Evy is going, and I’m covering her back until she’s out of the territory.” “No.” Evy and I replied in unison. “That’s suicide.” I added. “Think about it.” Garrett whisper-yelled. “I don’t want Evy anywhere near this pack right now. I’m the Gamma, so it’s my responsibility to help Valeria, even if it kills me. If I die, Evy can still go on. She’s not a lycan, a broken mate bond won’t kill her.” Tears welled up in Evy’s eyes. “I’m not leaving you here.” She whimpered. Garrett cupped her cheeks. “I’m not letting you get hurt.” He said. “You’re the fastest wolf in this pack, I’ll help you get across the border and you can get help.” I nodded. “I hate to say it, but you’re right.” I whispered and put a hand on Garrett’s shoulder. “But promise me something: if you have the opportunity to leave with Evy, you go too. Don’t take any stupid risks. I’ll hold down the fort here in the meantime.” Garrett nodded. “I promise.” He whispered.
