Chapter 1 “After the Loveless Wedding”
It’s been three days since Adira tied the knot with Chadwick McElroy. After spending three nights in Japan for their honeymoon, Adira returned home to her new house as Mrs. McElroy.
"Ahhhh. My body feels so exhausted," she groaned, sitting on the edge of the bed. As she lay down, her long, curly red hair spread out around her.
Dressed in sexy lingerie beneath her red robe, Adira’s olive eyes were fixed on the ceiling. There wasn’t much to see up there. She was simply trying to shake off the fatigue from the long journey back home.
"I still can’t believe I’m a married woman now," she whispered, blinking her eyes, her long lashes fluttering like butterfly wings.
It hasn’t been long since Adira agreed to marry the CEO of Wine&Vibe. Now, she finds herself in this room, contemplating how exciting life can be. She recalls drinking alone in her condo while belting out a pop song called: "I Don’t Need a Man." But here she is, trying to get used to her new name by practicing.
"Adira McElroy. Adira McElroy. Mc…Elroy."
A heavy silence enveloped the room.
Suddenly, Adira erupted into a loud laugh.
"What’s the point of marrying that guy? I didn’t even see his face during our honeymoon."
The plan was for Chadwick and Adira to enjoy their honeymoon in Japan after the wedding. However, only Adira made it there. She found out too late that Chadwick’s work commitments followed them on their honeymoon because he had an important meeting.
A guy who prioritizes work over a once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon?
Adira isn’t naive enough to miss that Chadwick is deliberately avoiding her. If that weren’t the case, they wouldn’t be sleeping in separate rooms.
Frustrated, Adira sat up in bed. Her original reason for agreeing to this marriage was to get pregnant. She had planned to have s*x with her husband on their first night together. But Chadwick left her hanging and arranged for them to stay in separate rooms.
"What’s the matter with my dear husband? Is he even a man?" Adira sighed.
As she tilted her head, she caught sight of her reflection in the mirror on the makeup table.
Her red hair cascaded down gracefully, perfectly complementing her petite face. She possessed a beauty that could easily belong to royalty. Her emerald eyes were piercing, yet they held the tranquil reflection of a pond. Her tight, rose-tinted lips were pursed as if caught in a kiss. And her figure? It’s no wonder they refer to it as a ‘Coca-Cola’ body. Anyone who glimpsed her sitting on the bed in a robe, with her red hair, exposed cleavage, and legs as pale as ivory, would find her incredibly alluring.
"I am so beautiful," Adira affirmed to herself. She tilted her head and added, "And I’m sexy too."
She was merely stating facts. Yet, confusion lingered. How could Chadwick pass up the opportunity to take her virginity on their honeymoon?
Adira inhaled deeply as she swept her red hair upward, giving her a playful look, and then she remembered what transpired on their wedding day:
Dressed in her gown, Adira gazed at the groom waiting for her at the end of the aisle. It was her soon-to-be husband, Chadwick.
Chadwick didn’t even bother to glance at his stunning bride. He simply stared blankly into space, as if he were so uninterested that he might soon start digging a hole in the ground. Regardless, Adira was unfazed by her groom’s indifferent demeanor. All she wanted was to wrap up the wedding quickly, so she quickened her pace.
When Adira reached Chadwick’s side, a moment of breathless silence enveloped them. Chadwick extended his arm without even looking at Adira’s face. She wrapped her hand around his arm, and together they turned their backs to the guests and faced the officiant.
The judge observed the two couples, both wearing expressions that resembled mourning rather than joy on their wedding day. Something felt amiss. The judge could easily sense it.
Ignoring the peculiar atmosphere, the judge cleared his throat. He wiped the perspiration from his bald head and adjusted his eyeglasses before commencing the ceremony.
As the judge spoke, Adira gazed at her husband’s profile.
‘At least he’s good-looking,’ she mused, only to notice that he was staring intently in a particular direction.
Focusing her gaze, Adira followed where Chadwick was looking. In the distance, she spotted a woman smiling sweetly at Chadwick and waving.
Recalling the woman she had seen at their wedding, Adira realized why Chadwick was keeping his distance from her.
“It’s because of that woman,” she murmured.
Prior to their wedding, Adira had done some digging into her fiancé’s past. She learned that while Chadwick hadn’t dated anyone, he had a friend for whom he harbored feelings.
“I don’t mind if he has feelings for someone else,” Adira stated. “But do we really have to sleep in separate rooms?”
If Chadwick keeps avoiding her, Adira believes she must find another way to reach her objective. That way is to seduce her husband.
With a broad grin, Adira got out of bed. She quickly exited her bedroom and stood beside her husband’s room, located on the East side of the house.
Adira is a firm believer that being direct is the most effective way to tackle a problem.
‘So, I’ll just ask him to sleep with me,’ Adira thought, feeling confident in her looks and her allure.
With her chin up, she reached for the doorknob. Just as she was about to turn it, she paused upon hearing her husband’s voice from inside the room.
[“Nothing happened between Adira and I. Don’t jump to strange conclusions, Isa.”]
Adira flinched at the mention of the name ‘Isa.’
‘Isa Daley,’ Adira whispered to herself.
There’s no way she wouldn’t recognize the woman she saw at their wedding. The woman her husband loves more than anyone else.
