Lux's POV
I watch the little werewolf girl. Stories I've heard all my life concerning the werewolves who live on the other side of the forest didn't rhyme with how cute and funny the werewolf I met was.
Her cute blue eyes glitter with a sparkle I haven't seen in others' eyes. I've lived among maids who served me from infancy, yet, I haven't met anyone like her. There is something about her that makes me wish to know more about her.
The last meeting I had with my father, a day ago, made me frown. Though he asked me to spy on the werewolves and monitor their steps, he seemed a bit eager for me to complete the task.
It was as if he were trying to hasten this, which wasn't the plan. I was to stay over here for 30 days. This way, I can learn about the werewolves, and help my father in evading their pack.
I glanced towards the place the cute werewolf ran towards, and a smile graced my face. Though there is always a hidden fire behind those blue, mesmerizing eyes of hers, I can't deny the beauty.
I hasten into the hut and changed into my trousers. I would have asked father to send more to me, however, should I do that, the werewolf will start suspecting me. And that's something I can't afford for her to do.
I need to act like the poor vampire who lost his memories. This way, she won't suspect me when until father completes his plans.
She returned a few minutes later with some fruit. Her cheeks are flushed, and from the subtle way she's breathing, I can tell she either climbed the tree to get the fruit or she ran all the way here.
“Have some fruit.” She gave me one of the ripe mangoes. “Back in the pack, we have a large tree by the brook. It produces red mangoes. Have you eaten those?” She sat at the front door like she did when I returned from having a bath.
She looked so at home in the hut that it made me wonder how many times she has spent here so far.
“Have you?”
Her question startled me from my thoughts. I blinked before I forced a smile. “I wouldn't know about that, Lala. I don't recall most of the things I've done before. I only know a few.”
“Hmm. That's true.” She gave me a once-over. Like she did when I returned from the spring, she locked eyes with my chest and gulped before she turned her face to the side, but she wasn't fast enough to hide the blush on her cheeks.
I sat next to her, and she stiffened. She moved farther from me before she relaxed.
What's wrong with her? I peered at her through my peripheral as I tried to understand the strange behaviour. Could it be that I smell?
But that's not possible. I had a bath an hour ago. There is no way in hell I will smell.
“Have you been able to recall anything about yourself?” She bit into the succulent fruit. The juice trickled down the side of her mouth, and I got this strong urge to wipe it away, but I restrained myself when she did so.
“Most times, I hate eating mangoes because of this.” She chuckled, showing off those white, perfectly aligned teeth of hers.
My heart skipped a beat at the sight, further confusing me. I have never felt this way with another female, and that made me wonder if it's because of the proximity. Lala is the only female I have ever sat this close to. Not even my betrothed can be proud enough to say that I've sat next to her before.
“Lux?” She waved a palm on my face, startling me once more from my thoughts.
I blinked, “what's wrong?”
She shrugged, “your fruit. Won't you eat it? Or don't you know how to?” She giggled once more.
“I know how to.” I peeled off the back bit into the succulent fruit. Unlike her, I didn't let the juice trickle down — I licked my lips.
She gasped and quickly turned her face to the side. “You sure know how to eat a mango.” She said in a muffled tone.
“Hmm.” I made quick work of the mango. Though as a vampire, I rely mostly on blood for sustenance, however, I can feed on normal food and fruits. But it's only to keep up front. Our major source of food is blood.
“Do you uh…” She tucked a strand of blonde hair behind her right ear, “do you have this urge to have blood?”
“No.”
It wasn't up for much thought. I drank enough blood during my visit to my father. It will take at least three days before I start feeling the urge to feed.
“Hmm. But father said you guys are so ferocious that you drink any blood you see.” She tilted her head to the side, “do you drink blood?”
The way she innocently asked made me smile. She doesn't look afraid of me. The only time her heartbeat increased was before she ran away, only to return with fruits.
However, back then, I don't think she was afraid of me. The expression on her face then was not one of fear.
“Of course, I drink blood. I'm a vampire.” I shrugged. Isn't being a vampire enough proof that I'm a bloodsucker?
She gasped, “you remember?”
“What?”
“That you drink blood!” She gulped. “What else do you remember? Do you now know where you came from and who your family is?” She sounded excited.
As much as I would have loved to tell her about my life in the dark mountains, I know it will only mean one thing —it will abort all the plans my father and I have made.
I shook my head instead. “I don't know much. It's gradually coming to me. However, the faces I see are still blurry. What of you? How is life in your pack?”
She bit into the fruit before she shrugged, "we are just a boring specie. My father is the Alpha and my mum is the Luna. I have three older brothers, and I'm the only daughter. You see, I'm supposed to be the Luna, but….” She sighed, “they still think women shouldn't be allowed to rule.”
Hmm.
They sound so much like us. However, unlike them, we don't have a sister. We are four boys, who are vying for our father's throne. Though I'm the one father favours among the rest, I know succeeding father will be a hassle.
None of my brothers will allow their youngest brother to rule over them.
