I got to school earlier than I would have liked, don't get me wrong, I love being early to wherever I am going, but School is an exception to that.
Lip won't be in school until the first bell is rung, and Herty isn't one for early kinds of stuff. Most times, she and Lip clash when coming to school.
The only people in the school are nerds like me, people who probably come early to school to avoid being bullied.
You see, this is one exemption between the other nerds and me. I might be more intelligent than others my age, but am not someone who can be trampled on.
Heading straight to the teachers' class, I smile when my eyes lit on Mrs Slub.
Mrs Slub is my favourite sister. She's the best, lacking better words* friend and mentor a girl can ever ask for.
She was the one who helped me realize my potential, and that's why I love that woman.
Dressed in an orange shirt paired off with a black pencil skirt, she looks as responsible as a young married mother of two.
“Good morning ma.” Smiling, I push open the doors of the room and walk-in
Looking up, the frown that was initially on her face turned into a full smile the moment she saw me. “Mesel.”
“Need any help?” I point to the files on her table. “I can help you with those, am free.”
“Of course. Thanks, dear.” She dramatically wipes her brow. “ Gods, I need to have some rest. I've been working nonstop since I arrived, like…” She checks her wristwatch” An hour ago.” She gasps,” bless me, I've been here for long without knowing it.”
“ Time seems to fly.” Sitting on the chair opposite hers, I start sorting things out. Putting the files in order, I made sure to arrange them in ways that can be easily accessible to her.
“Are you as excited to see your result as I am?” She smiles brightly.
“You can't tell just how excited I am.” I smile. “I can't wait to see the look on father's face when I return home with the good news.” I smile brightly.
It'll be worth it. All those nights will be worth it when I see the look of awe on my father's face.
“He'll be beyond shocked.” She smiles.
“Beyond shocked is the right word.”
Getting this scholarship is the only way to show my father am a capable teenager, one that can be able to take care of herself.
Funny how that's the only thing that can tell father am quite capable of being alone. Should I not get this scholarship, I'll end up schooling in our city, but that's not what I want.
This scholarship isn't only my way of showing my father am a responsible teenager, but it's my gateway to living outside the home.
It's like a ticket out of this city.

I helped Mrs Slub file the papers, and mark some of them before the first bell was rung.
“I take it that's my cue to let you go?” Mrs Slub sighed heavily.
“I guess that's the case. Don't worry, I'll be back during cafeteria break.” Hopefully, I'll return with good news.
“ Good luck, dear. I'll be waiting for it.” Lightly pinching me on my cheeks, she returns to the papers. “ I'll just get ready for class.”
“ Bye.” Slinging my backpack on, I walk out of the door, and face to face with my boyfriend.
“Lip!” I smiled brightly.
“Knew I'll find you here.” He gives me a look. “Why are you easily predictable?”
“I guess I would rather not be a complicated case.” Smiling brightly, I hug him. “ You weren't in school, so I had to kill the boredom.”
“ By doing an equally boring stuff?” He raises a brow.
“ It's never boring with Mrs Slub.” Releasing him from the hug, I give him a once over.
Lip is the most handsome guy *it's not an exaggeration* in our school, no one can be proud of saying they're more handsome than he is.
It's a wonder how he got to be my boyfriend. I, a nobody, got to have a more than handsome Greek god as my boyfriend. It's still like a dream to me.
“I can see that.” Pecking my mouth, he takes my backpack from me. “Can you give me the honour of leading my beautiful girlfriend to class?” He bows.
“Of course.” Linking our arms together, I allow him to lead me to class.
The class wasn't filled like it normally would have on a normal day. Being a sports day, we have split classes, and I happen to be in English class.
Before it wasn't so. We all have our classes together, but the increase in students made them divide the classes every sports day. Today, I'm on the first barge, and that means I am taking my English class first.
A few of our classmates in the class gave us looks. Some with neutral expressions, while the girls in the class gave me looks that would have taken me to an early grave if that's even possible.
“Where's Herty?” I look at the empty chair that's supposed to be occupied by my best friend of eighteen years.
Herty and I have been friends ever since we were born *if that makes sense at all*
Our parents are friends, and that's how we bonded.
“She talked of being late for class today. We might likely see her during sports.” Lip brings out my chair and helped me sit.
“That's odd. She hasn't skipped a class before.” I look at her chair. “She would have phoned me.” To make sure she didn't contact me, I browse my phone.
Who knows, I might have likely missed her calls.
“Maybe she forgot to call you.” He says with a shrug. “Let's just forget about her. She'll be here when she wants to be.”
“Okay.” I reluctantly nod, my mind still on the thoughts of Herty and her absence.
This is unlike Herty's to be absent from class. She's always in class, never one to miss her classes.
