Chapter Five- The perfect ending

Her stomach grew as she stayed with Ana. For months, they would go to the farm together and the nearby hospital. The doctors were super sweet to her. She knew all Ana’s neighbors. None of them asked questions. They just helped and brought gifts from ox-blood to potatoes they harvested from their farm. It was a small village and the packs were closely knitted unlike her village were everyone minded their business. She felt the joy of family. Her thoughts went to him every time, she denied it every time it came and it made more sense she needed to go before time. She had started tearing up in front of the store when she realized she was outside. Ana had thought something was wrong with her. She could not deny Ken the joy of seeing his child. “I would go back home soon”, she said as she was eating mashed rice and eggs. Cassie had started crying. She had become a sweet aunt to her, homeschooling her and teaching her a lot. She was always beside her and the little girl had taken her as an aunt, always screaming Aunty Mara while running round the house. Going on walks with her and spoiling her with gifts. “I understand, he deserves to know”, Ana replied. She had told Ana reason why she left him the night. It was a long night as she recounted everything from when they were growing up. Ana had understood like no other person, they had cried together and laughed afterwards, not knowing why they cried. She bowed to Ana, her bags on her hand with her bulgy belly. She had come without a bag but she was leaving with lots of gifts. The village cab was outside waiting for her and everyone in the village had come for a farewell, crying and laughing at the same time. The six months she spent with them had taught her a lot of lessons, given her reasons to grow and forgive. She got to her father’s house at almost sunset, the patrol officers and zeta wolf were still patrolling. She stopped in front of the mansion. It was still the same. She laughed at herself, what could possibly change in six months. She had wanted to go Ken’s place but him being the new Alpha in his pack meant serious business. He was not the guy she could follow around. She had to sit with her family first. She peeped in the library and saw her father squinting to read the book. She knew her mum was probably with other Lunas talking about the latest fashion in the society. Her nanny who had taken care of her while she was little smiled at her heaving a sigh of relief. “Papa”,she called out under her breath “Papa,” she whispered once more moving with prepared steps. “You came back home”, he whispered as he gasped looking at her heavy body “It’s his, papa,” she said seeing the look on her father’s face. “Taylor is not home, you know where she went but she is angry with you Maya,” he stated. “I knew you would come back, but she wasn’t too sure if your stubbornness would let you come home”, he continued. “Why didn’t you come early enough”, he whispered. Ken went for a conference with the men in his pack. They were discussing about building a forte with the international nation. She smiled, she didn’t want to ask the question. She didn’t want to know, maybe she would be hurt by the answer if she knew. “He searched for you”, her father called out when he saw her smile. He went back to the point from where you left several times, he said you could come back, that he needed to bring you home. Tears dropped as she tried to fight her eyes for betraying her. Her mum ran to her, crying and showing all forms of drama. “I thought i had lost you”, she said squeezing her without realizing she was pregnant. “Oh my!”, her mum gasped. “It’s his, ma”, she countered smiling. I was carrying before we got married. I didn’t know till i left. She looked uncomfortable in the room and wished more than anything else she had communicated how she felt. She heaved a sigh of relief as she got into her room. Her dad had promised he would call Alden to let him know of the latest situation. She took a shower and opened the window, it was like before she left. The light from the centre library shone bright giving the neighborhood enough to see with on the street. The local bar played quietly but loud enough for her to hear. She knew gossip would be going around, about how the daughter of the heiress is back with the baby of another man. She missed her bed. Her mum had prepared everything and even if she didn’t have enough energy to eat, she had picked on her food thinking of what she would tell Ken once she sees him. She woke up to the sound of her mum in her room. “I didn’t mean to wake you up but Ken came back last night”, she muttered. He told his parents not to come here even before we told him you were pregnant. “Your dad is talking with Alden on the phone”, she continued. Even if he is not the Alpha, he can still talk sense to his son. She wanted more than anything to let him know she was almost due. “Did he hate her already?”, she pondered She walked down the path of his house. The maids knew her so it would be easy for her to go in without trouble. Thankfully, by the time she got there, he had not made rules about her not coming in. “Ken, she spluttered when she saw him. She could see the anger in his eyes but it turned to was it relief she saw or care. She waited for him to say something, anything before she could tell her part of the story. “Maya,” he spoke quietly. He was not angry at her. He should be angry with her. “Maya, get out “, he bickered He didn’t want to show his anger. She was carrying someone’s child or was it his? He didn’t want to know. He wanted to show her he could get angry. She went out without arguing. The Maya he knew was always arguing and having something to say. She turned when she got to the door. “ I am sorry”, she started. I was always She couldn’t complete her sentence before a sharp pain hit her. She screamed as she pointed to her stomach. “I think my baby is coming”, she screamed again. That was what made him realize she was in labour already. The scream He saw the pang of pain and quickly held her hands. He carried her immediately to the room as he called the midwife. Maya held his hands in the room, the moon changing colors from a distance. The midwife came in and the noise in the room provided a background for what was about happening. Maya felt another sharp pain, she screamed yet again, her eyes full with a mixture of agony and resolve. With steadfast support,Ken uttered encouraging words in a whisper. A new life was welcomed into the world as the first cry, a wolf loud cry, was the only voice resonating through the room. At last, she gave birth to her daughter with her father. Her fear turned to joy immediately. Her mum rushed in and the big room soon became small as visitors started filling the room. Her mum had brought an army of women to the room. In the evening when everyone had gone, she looked at him and saw her had every right to be angry. She had left for no genuine reason. Her mother had pleaded she moved home but an Alpha always had the final stay. He had said he wanted to talk to her and care for his family. Her mum had gone home dejected despite pleading. I am sorry, I shouldn’t have left, I thought you were in love with Beca, that i was just fated but you weren’t going to treat me with love, she said fighting the tears silently. She didn’t want to wake up Annabel. “Is she mine?”, he asked She nodded “Remember the first time, I got pregnant. I didn’t know. I just knew i didn’t want you to have to start loving me all because of het”, she used the hem of her dress to make a knot. “Beca and I were just friends, nothing more”, he replied. “But i saw you kissing her”,she said She jumped on me and i pushed her off immediately”, he spoke loudly. “It had always been you”, he finished kissing her slowly but with intense love. He didn’t want to hurt her. He drew back “I love you”, he whispered “I have always loved you,” she muttered under soft breaths. She told him about where she left to and how she was taken care of in the village square. In the quiet night, they stood hand in hand, the air heavy with nothing to say. Each in thoughts thinking of the time they lost and their newfound happiness. The moon goddess, a witness to their journey cast a glow to them. Maya whispered and looked up to him sealing it with a kiss. She was his chosen one, bound by love that was chosen by the moon goddess, eternally etched beneath the light.
