I arrived at my destination, which was my best friend's home. Since I had often run away to him after a heated argument, whether with my father or one of my two sisters, I had stored clothes here.
They were hidden in a bush big enough for me to hide behind. That's why I was able to transform into my human form and had a screen in front of me.
I quickly found the pants and shirt because they were still in the same spot.
I quickly put on my jeans first and then my shirt. I hadn't thought about socks, which is why I went barefoot. But that didn't matter to me because I had a gigantic other problem.
As I walked towards the house, I contacted Finnick via the Mindlink to which the whole pack was connected. This way, you could get in touch with any pack member at any time.
"Finns? Hopefully you're home." I should have asked that beforehand. In my desperation, I had completely forgotten about it. I got the answer straight away: “Yes, of course.” Apparently, I had managed to keep my voice steady because he didn't sound concerned or worried.
I have no idea how I could stay so calm. I was probably in shock or didn't want to accept it. Maybe it was both.
When I reached the back door, I said, "I'm just entering the house." He laughed and said, "Very good, I'm in my room." Unfortunately, he would soon lose his laughter.
I opened the door as this house was practically my second home. This never bothered Finn's parents, and they even considered it normal that I came in and out as I wanted.
I hurried down the hallway to the stairs and up them. I took the stairs two at a time so I could move faster. Despite my short feet, I managed it, but it was a masterpiece.
Once at the top, the second door on the left was my destination. It was closed, but since he knew I was coming, I was able to open it immediately. Knocking would make no sense. I opened it with momentum, entered the room, and quickly closed it behind me.
Finns sat at his desk and worked on his laptop. He raised his index finger and declared, "Just give me a moment." "Clear."
The poor thing would get the shock of his life soon enough. I granted him this rest because I was extremely overwhelmed myself.
If I actually went, I would have to memorize it and look at it very carefully. Who knows if I would ever see him again.
He was typing on the laptop and adjusting his glasses on his nose. The nerd loved technology and everything that had to do with computers. His messy brown hair told me that he had been hanging on to it all day.
We only had each other as friends. We were always the outsiders when we were at school. He as the nerd and I as the brutal alpha's daughter.
It's quite possible that we were friends because there were no other options. However, that was kind of nonsense. We were on the same wavelength and understood each other without a word. I didn't want to imagine life without him; this man had been by my side for as long as I could remember.
Finally, Finns closed the laptop and turned to me. His pleased expression changed to worried and confused. So you could tell, only my voice could hide my true feelings.
Once he knew the news, I wouldn't be able to look him in the eye anymore, so I went to his bed and sat on the couch.
"Layla, what's wrong?"
How should I tell him that?
I took a deep breath, looked at him again, and began: "Please stay calm and go through this with me diplomatically. You can freak out later.”
He stood up from his chair and looked at me, confused. No matter what he expected, but certainly not the real facts. Finns came towards me, and I followed him with my eyes. You could tell he was thinking hard. He was probably thinking about what we'd been up to lately.
Shortly afterward, he sat down next to me and said, "Ok, go ahead. I can't think of anything." I took his hand and squeezed it lightly. That gave me support and probably gave him the same.
"Finns, I'm not kidding, so don't ask unnecessary questions. And please don't ask me why I'm so calm. I have no idea myself."
As I paused, he nudged me with his shoulder to continue. I had to clear my throat to be able to say anything else. "My father sold me to Xavier Blackmoon. If I stay, the beast will tear up this territory."
He was studying me and I could practically see his brain rattling. It will probably take some time until acceptance comes. It probably only came when I was actually gone. Unless Jason could sort this out, which I was praying for.
Finally he asked: "Xavier Blackmoon, like Alpha Blackmoon aka the cruelest man around? The most powerful Alpha with the largest territory, why can't you even imagine it?"
I nodded, completely numb. Somehow there was nothing left in me. It was like a yawning emptiness in the desert, where there was nothing but sand and only a prickly cactus grew every few kilometers.
Finns ran his free hand through his hair and looked forward at the wall. Disbelief was written all over his face.
But in the next second, his eyes snapped to me. Apparently, he had an idea. That was totally my best friend. His brain was constantly working out solutions at the speed of light. It was like an automatic reaction from him.
"Layla, we're leaving. We're not packing anything, and we're leaving right away." He stood up and pulled me with him by my hand. However, I stopped, so he inevitably did and turned to me.
He looked at me questioningly, so I explained, "Jason and my mom are talking to my dad. Maybe they'll come to a different conclusion."
I could see that he was thinking the same thing as me. My hated sire would not be dissuaded from anything that was once in his head.
Essentially, my fate had long since been sealed.
