CHAPTER FOUR

The New Moon festival was extremely packed with the heavy scents of various werewolves from different packs. Despite him being the Alpha that is next in line to lead the pack, Alpha Kane wanted nothing to do with the festival. His father, however, had made him stay to welcome everyone at the festival. It was a midnight festival. It was usually done at midnight, as it is a myth in the Kane Blue Blood Pack that the moon is at its fullness during that period. Alpha Kane had watched as the other werewolves danced around and screamed for joy when they felt the peculiar pull that strung them to their mates as the festival proceeded, while he found no one. His rage silently grew within him as one more shout was heard from a lady wolf nearby. She had found a rebound in his pack. He guessed second chances still happened. He was quickly briefed about it by his beta, Cade, much to his annoyance. Cade moved closer, whispering in his ear. The female wolf had lost her destined mate to a rogue wolf the year before. She is now mated to Anderson. "He is not a normal wolf, he is a pack warrior," he said, Alpha Kane nodded in acknowledgement. Nonetheless, he was not interested in this briefing. It all made him feel hollow and sick. He watched them all as they enjoyed themselves and laughed. He had no care for any of this. He was a meticulous Alpha, and he knew just how much his father spent yearly to host this celebration on the new moon. He would give them all an eye-opening during his reign, which wasn’t too farfetched. He had always wanted to confront his father to fight for the leadership of the pack, but his inability to control his wolf still hindered him. And that was because he still had not found his mate. And his father knew that, which was why he played it to his advantage, making sure his son was seen as a beast. He was still unsure why his wolf had attacked the Omega maid in his room days before. It all made no sense. She had been working with him for so long. When he had voiced his opinion to his mother, Luna Laura, she had only dismissed it as him being bitter because he had not found his mate yet. He knew that was all Luna would say. She was such a self-centered person who found joy in taking care of herself alone. He did not despair; he still had his life ahead of him to find his mate, and besides, he had a pack to run. He could not be under his parents' leadership forever. And his father even gave them the right to go to school. Kane was looking for ways to end this evil act. He only needed the perfect excuse and scapegoat among the Omega to carry out this evil act. Jolting him out of his thoughts, Cade communicated to him, "Alpha Lej and his pack just made their entrance." Kane’s interest was piqued at that. Alpha Lej was Kane’s childhood friend. He was also the Alpha of the domineering Moon Pack. He was much more gruesome. Alpha Lej was in urgent search of his mate to save his pack from the evil influence of his sister, Mirian. Mirian was a killer wolf and the main instigator of evil in the pack. The pack hated and feared her; none dared cross her path. Most of the atrocities were hers alone, and she propagated all the insane laws in the pack. He had attended the Blue Blood Festival in the hope of finding his mate. But Kane knew better. Lej was at the festival for completely different reasons. "At last, something interesting. Where is he? " He asked, speaking out loud, turning to his Beta. He handed the glass of wine he had been holding over to Cade. Getting the glass, Cade said quietly. "He is with Alpha Jake and Luna Laura currently, but he seemed to be looking around for something," "That old geezer, he is still trying to sniff around our pack. He most likely has spies already among us. Tighten the security," Kane ordered. "Yes, Alpha," Cade turned to leave, but Alpha Kane called him back. His eyes glistening, one could see his wolf was already taking over his consciousness. "One more thing: get that Anderson to go with you. You said he is a warrior; put him to work." "But Alpha, he is just newly married now." Our law forbids a newly wedded warrior to leave his wife... " He stopped, raising an eyebrow at Kane, who had stopped talking and was looking so pissed off. Putting a choking hand around Cade’s neck, he drew the wolf forward, speaking in his ear, "I made the rule, and I can turn it wherever I wish. Do you believe in fairy tales where they just live ever after, after getting a rebound? I hate happy endings. Keep that in mind. " He threw at his Beta, shoving him back to his feet. Many Alphas were in close contact with their betas, but Alpha Kane did nothing to make Cade like him. He was no longer like an employed servant like the Omegas. He strode forward to meet Alpha Lej, Alpha Kane collected another glass of alcohol from a waiter that passed him, flashing her eyelashes at him. He sniffed her scent. He noted that she was not from his pack. No sane female wolf from his pack would ever do that to him. He smiled at the price of ignorance. Pushing her aside with his strong arm, she collapsed into the hands of Cade probably injured due to the rough way he handled her. Cade held her, not bothering to cast another glance their way. As he made his way towards Lej, the other wolves cleared his way as he neared them. His aura was too strong for them to resist his presence. Though many of them resented his highhandedness, none dared to voice it out. Alpha Jake was the first to notice him as he got close to them. He held out his hand to him, turning to Alpha Lej. "Your dear friend is here. Perhaps you too will find your mate in each other." He joked, pulling his son forward. "What a cruel thing to say. My son needs offspring to rule this kingdom and a male Luna would never give him that." Luna Laura cautioned her husband. Kane ignored their comment. He addressed his friend, his voice firm and hard, "Come with me, I have something to discuss with you." He said this to Alpha Lej, who immediately followed him. He led the way, walking miles away from the festival. He was so focused on getting Alpha Jake from his father, before the old man spewed any more nonsense, that he did not notice he had gotten so close to the Omega building. Cursing under his breath, he quickly released an oppressive aura into the air; the once lively building immediately went quiet, and the lights went off, plunging the entire building into darkness. "What are you doing here? You are always the loner, are you not?" Alpha Lej accused him of coming up to sit beside him on the building wall. "Says the Alpha that came all the way from his pack all alone without his guards," Kane taunted back. Alpha Lej laughed, "Let’s be honest with ourselves. We both know you are fully aware I did not come here alone. We do think alike, Kane, so we know what we are both capable of." "True," Alpha Kane said, quickly tiring of the small talk. He had just wanted to get Lej out of his father’s presence. He had no plan for what to do with him after that. Alpha Lej read his expression, slapping his friend’s shoulder. Kane might be evil, but he was not afraid of him in the slightest. "You will not get rid of me that easily, Kane. I am searching for my mate. You know, until I am done searching and finding her, I will not leave this festival, "he challenged Kane snorted, "I pity the unfortunate wolf that will be your mate, you are a soft breed." Lej threw Kane a look, which the other ignored. "Don’t think anything foolish. You can not attack me and go scot-free with it. My wolf is very hungry these days, and almost out of control. A little nudge and they might have to take your dead body back to your pack," Kane growled at Lej hotly, his eyes murderous. Lej laughed it off, though he knew it was true. He could never face Kane on a battlefield. His wolf was monstrous. The first time he had seen him in a wolf form when they were children, he had run off until alpha Jake had come to get him from the tree he had climbed on in his human form, crying, naked and hungry. Turning to Kane, he let out his mind, his voice downcast. "If I do not find her this festival, I am going to marry my s*x maid." he said slowly, letting the interpretations of his words become clear to Kane. Kane regarded him coolly. "That would be disastrous. Isn’t she an Omega?" He arched an eyebrow at Lej, who shrugged "I know, which is why I need your help." He turned a sinister smile on his friend. His vision distorted, he swiftly turned into his wolf form, shedding his clothes in the process. The giant wolf emerged so monstrously, his mouth jaws were so wide and sharp, his eyes were red and monstrous-looking, and his hind feet were by far larger than those of any Alpha. His paws had a strong golden ring to them, showing that he came from a line of strong Alphas who had never been mixed with any other lower caste groups. He was a true Alpha, undiluted. Pureblood Alphas. Alpha Lej stepped out of his way in time, taking several steps backwards at the sudden change. He knew he was only lucky at that transition because he was an Alpha. If any other caste member had been in the way, they would have been hurt badly. He felt pity for Kane, but he could do little. Until Kane finds his mate, it would be extremely difficult to calm down his giant wolf. Which was why he brought forth his proposition, which would be much more profitable for them both. They had both turned eighteen moons two moons ago, yet they could not find their mates unless their desired mate had not come of age, or such people were hiding under some sort of cloak or portion. The nerve-wracking arranging of bones caught his ear as Kane changed back into his human form, as swiftly as he had turned "I have a proposition for you." He said matter-of-factly when he was sure Kane was listening. Kane stood on his feet, naked, panting hard. He turned dangerous eyes at Lej. "You still want to make your proposition, even after seeing my state. You were just lucky, Lej. You might not be so lucky next time. You should be thankful my wolf did not decide to turn you into his evening meal," he joked, turning away. Lej faced him, stopping his way, raising a wary eyebrow at his friend, Kane growled at him, annoyed, "Get out of my way. I need clothes. I am in my human form. I am capable of freezing to death, so please excuse me." Lej would not budge. "We both know that is a lie. You are the strongest wolf I have ever seen." "Even the strongest of wolves can fall sick," he muttered to himself, turning away. He began walking away. If he heard any more compliments from Lej, he would make sure to throw him a punch in the gut where it would hurt him the most. He was not a kind wolf and he would never be. He does not do favours. He was a killer wolf and would forever be. But Alpha Lej was not done talking. What he lacked in strength, he made up for with his sharp wit. "Why do you think your wolf suddenly changed his form right now and right here besides this building?" It was not so erratic at the party. You successfully greeted your father’s entire guest list without having to deal with it. He paused, letting his words sink in. "In my pack, your wolf does not act unpredictably, or in any other places we go together." It just began to act this way because your mate is of age. And believe it or not, Alpha, you only act erratically whenever your mate is near. You always want to move closer to her subconsciously. Kane stopped in his tracks; he grabbed Lej by the collar, hurling the big Alpha against the wall of the Omega building. Right before he could perpetuate the evil he had in mind, his wolf went calm at the faint female cry from the Omega building. His pointed claws returned to human-shaped fingernails as his wolf took over for that brief second, and his monstrous eyes returned to their stormy blue. Lej took that opportunity to speak, trying to veer Kane’s hands off his chest. "Do you see what I mean?" He hit him against the wall harder; he could hear his bones cracking. "What do you know about my wolf?" "I know nothing about your wolf, Kane. Calm down." Lej cried out. His wolf tore out at the injustice. He had only been mocking Kane. That was the wrong way to joke around. He wondered what had possessed him in the first place to joke around with Kane. He had no sense of humour. Kane threw him away angrily. "You bastard." He cursed, "You are such a weakling. How do you even rule your pack? " Doubling with pain, Lej laughed, "Only you can say that. No normal Alpha in his right senses would fight you. Do you think another Alpha could have beaten me the way you just did?" "Whatever, say what you want to say and be gone from my presence." Kane growled, a trace of annoyance in his voice, though his whole body yearned to hear more. Lej stood up from the floor, arranging his phone quickly. He came to stand beside Kane, who had leaned against the wall of the Omega building. For some strange reason, his wolf had calmed down just by hearing that female cry, and the wall was soothing his wolf to calmness. He could feel it. It was so strange. The Alpha's and Omega’s were worlds apart. He could not even move freely among them. His wolf had the highest record of Omega killings whenever it lost control, but tonight, it was strangely taking solace from the people he always took delight in killing. Lej, unaware of the reason behind Kane’s sudden calmness, took up the opportunity. "I have a proposition." "Go straight to the point, Lej," Kane snapped, his patience waning. He was not one to listen to others. He gave the commands and they were obeyed. He was only staying with Lej because he was his childhood friend and one of the few who had managed to endure his wicked attitude over the years. However, he was not going to compromise his peace. He had finally found it. He would not let anyone disturb his wolf's peaceful rest. It had been so long since he had been this calm. It was all so unimaginable. "I need to get Mirian out of my pack. I would like to rule my pack by myself without her influence," Lej stated calmly, the strain obvious in his voice. "Immortal Killing Machine, good luck to Alpha Lej of the Moon Pack. Good luck with that. Just don’t die in the process. " Lej was a fool for thinking he could manage that. Mirian was an evil incarnate that should not even be tampered with, Lej had no power or guts where she stood. "I really have to get her out of my pack, or at least reduce her powers. I want to hold leverage against her, something that will make her calm down and leave the pack administration to me." Lej stated. "Dream on," Kane taunted. Lej, undaunted, continued, "I cannot do it by myself, which is why I need you to help me." He said seriously, Kane regarded him not giving any response as to if he had heard him or not. But Lej knew the Alpha was not hard of hearing; he could hear him. "I want to hold her to a leverage just so she will be distracted and I can take over the administration fully without her knowing," he repeated for emphasis. "And how can I help with that?" "Kane said gravely, his voice hard, it was clear. Alpha Kane did not like his words. "I want you to try dating Mirian." "And why would I do that?" Alpha Kane interjected, looking at Lej like one would look at a pesky fly. Lej answered calmly, choosing his words carefully, knowing Kane could stop listening any moment he got irked. "Because you are the only one for miles who is not scared of Mirian. If you two were ever to face a battle, you would beat her mercilessly. And you are the only one whose name she seems to have a care for in her dealings. She always avoids merchants that come from your pack to trade like the plague. She never wants to have anything to do with this pack" "If she does not want anything to do with my pack, then what makes you think, she would agree to date me? I could decide to kill her any day." Kane quipped in sounding amused for the first time in their conversation, evil Marian and Evil Kane, what a monstrous couple they would make "No, her avoiding your pack does not mean, she hates you, she likes you and wants to learn more control techniques from you on how to rule packs with fearsome tactics." She is looking for any way to get close to you, but she doesn't know how because she doesn't want you to judge her." name is the only tune she dances to," Lej explained. "Why do I feel like I am being sold off?" Kane teased "No, you are not." I know you do not fear her and she can't do anything to your pack no matter how she might try. But my life would be ruined and she might kill me if I do not find leverage to hold her at bay soon. She is already planning to take over my pack as we speak. She holds my s*x maid hostage. My maid is pregnant with my child. She is four seasons gone. She said she hates Omega's, hence her desire to kill her. This evil b***h wants to ruin my pack, Kane. " Lej cried, making pity glances at Kane, who shrugged. "Fine, I guess this was why you came to the festival. That s*x maid of yours seems to be getting into your head" he reasoned. He could never get himself one, they would not be able to take him, he would be too big for her no matter what, and Omega’s only fawned and admired him from afar; none dared to move too close for fear he would kill them. Heaving a sigh, he would just do it for fun. "What do I have to do? And what do I get in return? I will not do such a demeaning task for fun," he argued, even though he had no problem with it, but he wanted to hear Lej’s reward for helping out. As much as I want you to marry her as a punishment for her many sins, you don't need a heartless fool like her; you need a mate who will change you, and I sincerely hope you find her."Kane maintained his cool, ignoring the obvious teasing in Lej’s voice. Lej continued, "Here is my plan. I want you to give me your phone number. You changed your mobile recently and it seems Kane Blue Blood Pack is up to some new inventions and has refused to share them with the rest of the world. I tried your old line relentlessly, so I had no choice but to come here. " "My old-line, I lost it some seasons ago, I have no idea where it is," Kane said nonchalantly, not giving it much thought. "That explains it then." But I need you to give me the new one. She will chat you up and become quite hooked on that. She will be gullible with it as it will carry your profile picture anyway. It is your choice though, you can chat her up at will. But know that if you do not, your dear friend might lose his pack to his greedy sister and he might get killed in the process. " He whined. "Whatever," Kane said. He could care less about that, Lej was an Alpha. He should learn to stand up for himself. "What do I get in return?" In all Lej’s rambling he had not heard him mumble that. "The number first of all, " Lej demanded. He would not take chances with Kane, who straightened up to collect new clothes from his beta, who Lej recognised as Cade. It seems the wolf had been lurking in the dark ever since, This pack was so unusual and weird. It would be nice to drop his evil sister in their midst and be done with her annoying presence. As soon as Kane collected the clothes, Cade retreated into the shadows. "020 6784 999." Kane called the number to him lazily as he wore his clothes. Lej wrote it in a frenzied hurry. Kane’s number was such an extremely exclusive item that it was only known among his inner circle. It was a precious keepsake. Lej’s eyes preyed on Lej's eager fingers as he wrote the numbers, "Good. Now tell me what you will give me in return." "I will tell you why your wolf seems to calm down while you are resting against that wall." Lej answered playfully, Kane pushed himself away from the wall in a flash, his anger resurfacing. irritated at himself for resting against the Omega building. He found it odd that he had, but he refused to let it show. He growled at Lej instead. All playfulness was gone from his tone. "Speak." he commanded. He knew Lej had something to hold against him. But an Omega he would kill the girl first. "Because it was all the same when I loved an Omega, that made me love an Omega, It seems we do share the same fate. We are destined to be loved by an Omega. " Kane turned to look at the Omega building instantly. There seems to be a glow shining from the restroom side of the building. His heart thumped wildly. The light flickered a few more times, then died away. He would find out. Someone in there had an influence on him. "That is a lie. I am not as weak as you are, Lej," Kane grunted out. "Thias is not about weakness. Let's put it to the test," Lej declared, annoyed at his friend’s viewpoint. Kane gave Lej a sharp, irritated look. "What are you saying?" "I am saying we go over to the Omega building, to see if the Mate bond pulls you to that Omega female or not," Lej said carefully. Shocking Kane's world and very soon an Omega's world.
