DEVIL'S PHONE CALL

1034 Words
DANIEL's pov: After the meeting half of the office is in tears because I fired them, but I know they are only creating drama and that it is not real tears. I didn't fire them only because of their performance. I also checked everything about their characters and didn't like what I found. I don't want these types of people around me every day. By 1:30 a.m. I have completed all my tasks. There is only one important meeting that I have to arrange. I schedule it for 6:00 a.m. as it is the only time I have available. I have to inform my PA that she has to type up the agenda for tomorrow's meeting even though she left for home hours ago. It is part of her job, after all. I know people usually sleep at this time, but she is working for me, so she has to sacrifice her sleep to keep my company running. I take my business phone and call her number. At first she doesn't answer the call, so I call her a second time and this time she picks up on the first ring. ROSE'S POV: Catherine kept me and Eva up late into the night complaining about her boss. Now both idiots are sleeping like logs, and I am staring at the white ceiling and thinking about nothing; yet sleep refuses to come. Suddenly Cathy's mobile starts ringing. I look at the time; it's 1:40 in the morning. Who is calling her at this hour? I glance at her, but she doesn't even stir. I'm sure that she's somewhere in dreamland. I take her mobile and look at the caller ID. There is no name, only a number. My stupid brain starts cataloguing all the negative circumstances that could lead to someone calling her at this time. Did something happen to her family? Is there some sort of emergency? As I'm thinking about all the possibilities, the ringing stops. I sigh in relief, but just as I'm heading back to bed, Cathy's phone rings again. This time I answer the call without a second thought and ask all the questions that have been on my mind in one go. "Hello, who are you? Why are you calling at this time? Are you fine? Is it something important or has something bad happened to you or Catherine's family? Are you sure you're all right? Please respond, why are you silent?" “I can only speak if you let me speak,“ a husky male voice says when I finally pause for breath. His voice sends a strange sensation throughout my entire body. I put it down to the late hour and tuck a blanket around me so as to stay warm. “I'm sorry, but who are..." Before I can finish my sentence, he interrupts me. “Before you start again, let me explain. There is nothing wrong with miss Joseph's family, or me. It's just that she has to finish some work now, it's important. If it wasn't, I wouldn't call her this late, but the meeting is early tomorrow morning so it's urgent. Also, I'm fine. Thank you for caring," he clarifies, sounding sleepy as well now. "She is sleeping like a dead buffalo after ensuring that I won't be able to sleep. I'm sure she is somewhere in the middle of a dream involving her boyfriend. Please wait, I'll try to wake her up." “Okay," he agrees. Now I have to wake up the sleeping log that is Catherine. This is never an easy task. "Cathy? Cathy. Sweetheart, wake up." I slap her lightly. Knowing how tired she is, I hate to disturb her and so don't try as hard to wake her as I would have done if this was a reasonable hour. "Sweetheart, wake up, Baby. Wakey wakey, Sweetheart." "Please just let me sleep for ten more minutes. My head is spinning. It's all my devil boss's fault. He had me working all day and I'm sure tomorrow he will do the same," she grumbles and turns over, falling right back to sleep. After listening to her I have an idea and pick up her phone again. "Hello, sir. I think she's really tired as your boss gives her so much work. So I think, if you let me, I'll complete her work. I think you're also sleepy, you're only working because you're afraid of your boss, right? I'll finish your work too so that you can rest and be able to handle tomorrow's work. Just send your and Cathy's work to her w******p. I have no chance of sleep now, anyway. If you'll let me and promise me that you'll not tell your boss. I'm sure he'll fire you both. You're her colleague, right?" He doesn't reply. "Hello, sir, are you there?" "Yeah... Yes, I'm her colleague. You don't have to worry. I'll call my boss and ask him to postpone the meeting to tomorrow afternoon. This way we can both go to sleep now. Are you her friend?" "Are you sure that he'll hold off the meeting? Cathy told me he won't listen to anyone. Yes, I'm her friend." "Oh, okay. No' it's not like that. I'll ask him to hold off the meeting till tomorrow afternoon." "Okay, but make sure that he'll accept your request. If he doesn't, call me and I'll finish your work." "No, you rest. I'll make sure he'll hold off the meeting. So don't worry. Please go to sleep and you don't have to say anything about this to miss Joseph. I'll explain everything to her tomorrow morning at the office. Thank you for offering to help." "Wow! You're really a life saver. If I had to explain this to her she'd ask me 1000's of questions in one minute. Have a good night, after all, tomorrow you have to attend the meeting and you have to explain everything to your boss. All the best. I just wish that your boss will not yell at you and Cathy." "I'll be happy if your wish comes true. Good night." "Bye." I hang up, suddenly feeling sleepy. Who knew a simple conversation could feel so good?
